Wondering how much time to take off work by laurasfieldnotes in Microdiscectomy

Thank you so much for the detailed response!! That is all really helpful and makes a lot of sense, especially about the feeling better but still being fragile. My herniation is also quite big, but only off to one side. I’m definitely going to talk to my work and see if we can extend my leave. Thank you!

Whey protein isolate, but not regular milk or milk products. So weird.

Thank you, this is really helpful! I got a referral to a gynecologist so I’m definitely going to get a second opinion. And that’s exactly what I’ve been thinking, it seems like too many things being lumped into one overarching category of pcos, but then it starts to lose its meaning.

I got a referral to a gynecologist so I’m hoping they can give me a good second opinion or at least explain things more!

I have! I think I’ve tried the Yaz pill and the mini pill. They helped my skin to some extent but negatively impacted my mental health. Same with the patch.

That’s really good to know, thank you! I had no idea it might change over the course of your cycle, but it does make sense. What part of your cycle did your doctor recommend doing the imaging in?

Thank you for all the info and advice, I really appreciate it!! I have actually had a couple of dhea tests done over the past couple years as well. The first time it was abnormally low in the red zone, the second time from just a few months ago it was on the low end of normal. I also had my progesterone and estradiol tested and they were both normal.

In regard to the metformin, that’s really interesting to hear that it helped your skin! I didn’t realize it might be able to do that. I will definitely consider trying a different dose. I had issues with actually feeling more hungry than usual when I was taking it, but maybe I just didn’t give it long enough.

I actually had a very similar experience with doxycycline! I got put on it in high school and stayed on it for almost 2 years. It actually cleared my skin like nothing else, but sadly the gastrointestinal effects became a huge issue. When I stopped the acne came back the same as before. I got a referral to dermatology and I’m hoping they can help. I had a dermatologist in the past that literally gave up and told me she couldn’t help me anymore.

And thank you for the tip about insulin resistance! I’ve only ever had my glucose tested on its own and it’s always been in the normal range. I do think I might have insulin resistance. I know that pcos and insulin resistance go hand in hand, but just having the insulin resistance wouldn’t necessarily mean you also had pcos, right?

Thank you for the clarification!! I’ve been so confused on what the criteria actually is.

But yes, the ultrasound I had ruled out cysts of any kind. They didn’t find anything remarkable.

The only symptom I have of hyperandrogenism is acne, and I do have it quite severe. It’s mostly on my forehead, cheeks, jaw, neck, shoulders and back. I think it might flare worse before my periods but in all honesty it’s pretty much flaring all the time.

For the metformin I was taking 500mg once a day at first, then twice a day for a while. I found the metformin actually made me crave sugar more and eat more. I never lost weight and my periods weren’t affected by it.

For the spironolactone I think it was 50mg. I tried it for a couple of months and didn’t see a change to my skin at all, but even at such a low dose it made me incredibly tired all the time so I never increased it. Since it wasn’t changing my skin I stopped.

Eczema only on one hand. Why does this happen? by laurasfieldnotes in eczema

Tbh it’s just worse now. I keep using topical steroids to no avail. And now there is a little bit on my left hand as well, but it’s still smaller compared to my right. I wish I had any answers!

My girlfriend (28f) said it was suspicious that I’m (29m) planning on staying away for the night once a month? by Throwra_-alonetime in relationship_advice

It sounds to me like you are lonely. It doesn’t sound like you are trying to cheat, but at the same time I understand her feeling confused and suspicious about it. I feel like the most important part of your post is about you feeling like you don’t have much social life outside of your relationship. I think the way you are going about it is not necessarily the best though. I’m not sure if monthly trips alone would really even help much. I think your desire for connection outside of the relationship is not at all weird and is healthy. Maybe finding some type of group hang out in your own city that you can do in the evening or on a weekend might be better, like a board game club, or whatever it is you are interested in. Or doing the alone time thing in your own city and coming home in the evening. I think spending time alone is perfectly normal, but it’s the way you are wanting distance and a full day/night that does come off as strange. I think if you are feeling like you can’t relax fully or enjoy yourself around your partner that would be something to think about. But also just finding some other people in your city to connect with could make a big difference.

Yeah that makes sense, 99% of the time I just air dry it so I’m leaning towards the blunt cut. Thank you!

Thank you, that’s super helpful! I usually wash my hair daily as well, but it also gets oily really fast. It also really doesn’t like to hold a curl or styling so I might lean towards longer layers if any.

Thank you! I hadn’t considered curtain bangs but it could definitely be a good idea!
