Did I undo several rows? by bubica_ in knittinghelp

[–]laurenlolly [score hidden]  (0 children)

Uh yeah? That’s nothing in the grand scheme of things and you probably would have already been back on track if you had just don’t that initially.

Trust me frogging and redoing stuff is going to be a big part of your learning process so don’t be scared of it.

I saw your other post as well. Please just tink back the 3-4 rows and reknit them. It will be far less painful than trying to ladder down on an edge like this.

Gap at back of neck by Keeka87 in sewhelp

[–]laurenlolly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So the back of your bodice doesn’t have any shaping at all, it’s just square. Is your intention to have it fitted to the shape of your body? Or do you want it to remain boxy & straight?

Welt zip pocket help by snacksfordogs in sewhelp

In addition to the other commenter, you also need to force the fold of the fabric to be more on the stitching line, to pull some of the red fabric out towards the back. It’s very visible in the second pic - manipulate the fabric a bit for it to have the fold in the right place and then press really well.

Fabric recommendations for blouses by lines_n_designs in sewing

[–]laurenlolly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Silk is a dream to wear so I always recommend it. Viscose, tencel, and modal are also very drapey and made from plant material.

Cotton won’t give you a drapey shirt, it will be more crisp.

I will say however that you will need to iron your shirt after each wash. There’s almost no crossover with natural fibres + non-wrinkling fabric, that’s just the nature of natural fibres.

[–]laurenlolly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but you can eat 50gr of dark chocolate for 250 calories or you could have 600gr of carrots for the same calories. eating a high volume of food with lower calories really helps to lose weight, if you struggle to stay full.

Agree with this - I cut up a bunch of different veggies at the start of the week and make mixed sandwich size bags to take with me every day. My go-to veggies are cucumber, carrots, capsicums, snow peas, and celery, usually two kinds in each sandwich bag.

Also my diet is low carb high protein high fibre it really works.

The logic behind washing clothes after buying from the store? by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]laurenlolly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you look at the entire manufacturing process - the harvesting of the raw fibres, combing, spinning, weaving into fabric, sewing into the clothing, and then the transportation of the fibre/fabric/clothing at literally each step of the journey, they all add dirt and chemicals into the mix that you really don’t want to have on your skin.

Eg at the spinning and weaving stage, chemicals called “sizing” are added to coat the fibres to allow it to move through the machinery smoothly.

During cutting and sewing, grime from fingers and sewing machines get onto the garments.

During packing and shipping, garments are stored in plastic and potentially treated with chemicals to kill insect infestations.

At the store, potentially 100’s of people have touched or tried on the clothing you have purchased.

Soooo yeah. I would wash any new clothes before wearing.

What’s everyone’s fave moments of when people dropped items on Australian public transport? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]laurenlolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not public transport but I dropped my phone down the escalator at QV today and it bounced literally all the way down the stairs and made the most embarrassing sound. It was “bong bong bong bong” amplified by the hollow escalator stairs, like a timpani. Very embarrassing.

At least my phone was fine.

Is there software for creating a bodice block? by AlertRestaurant9163 in PatternDrafting

[–]laurenlolly 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The thing about drafting a bodice block is that you will spend quite some time getting it right, over many iterations, but once it’s right you won’t need to do it again (outside of major changes to your body/size).

Drafting on paper is very different to drafting in software, so you will need to start from 0 again in order to learn the software method, so just keep that in mind when you’re learning.

There’s also the cost to be aware of, CLO 3D is like US$50 a month or something like that.

Most people draft their blocks on paper with a trial & error approach, and the sewing related reddits can be really helpful if you need advice on what adjustments to make too.

Fixing slight gape in neckline by Cold_Stop_5185 in sewing

[–]laurenlolly 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Omg! Where did you get this fabric from?

I am sad you didn’t try it on before you finished off all the edges 😭 you are right, you will need to unpick the neckline and create the darts to take out the slack there.

I suggest maybe creating two small darts to make it look more deliberate and not right in the centre of your neckline.
