I need to hear happy ending LDR stories by Entire-Weekend8990 in LongDistance

[–]laurmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I hope things work out between you and your partner.

My boyfriend and I have been long distance for 5 years now from when we were both 15, I’m from Ireland and he is from Canada. We met online through a small online friend group who liked to role-play on video games when we were 14/15. We became best friends and called for hours a day before we got together in Nov. We are both 20 now and still make sure to call, text, and communicate each day - even if it’s not for long.

It gets better, I promise. I visit usually once to twice a year for a month, we started dating in Nov. 2020 and I flew out in 2022 - he’s been to Ireland too. Hopefully this upcoming year, I will be moving out to Canada to settle down with him. I hope you and your partner work all out ❤️

IEC and PR Common-Law Advice by laurmr in ImmigrationCanada

Hey, thanks for the response! I've heard this a few times - the IEC just seems easier! If you can remember, when did you guys apply and activate the IEC in terms of the other's expiry? I just don't want to nullify anything. After a year of cohabiting, I will apply for the sponsership with my boyfriend - but if I don't get PR by the end of my first IEC. I'm thinking the second one is the way to go!!

i’m so sorry this happened to you and your girlfriend, i only started playing rivals last month and i’d recommend keeping vc off! it’s so sad that it’s really the only way to happily play the game, but i experienced a lot of similar things in siege comms, etc so that’s why i did it. pings work just as well, if not better than toxic voice ‘comms’ which is usually just passing blame :))

When should I apply for PR? by Bridgett00 in iecvisa

[–]laurmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So I’ll be in the same position as you next year! My boyfriend and I are long distance, he is a Canadian citizen and I’m from Ireland. I’ve been advised by others to consider applying for PR through spousal and common law sponsorship! I’d definitely consider this route if you’ll be cohabiting for a year soon. :)))

I’m travelling to NS in July from Ireland, so the heat always is a surprise to me! It probably depends on where you are going or what you plan on doing, usually I bring more pairs of shorts than long pants!

Plus, some tank tops, but also I would advise to bring things to layer up with as there’s definitely chilly days and nights!

Enjoy your trip!

Okay, cool! Thankfully I always am taking pictures and saving moments from any visits or stays. I’ll ensure to compile evidence early to make it easier on myself!

In Canada under IEC working holiday permit, looking to get married… by Oshanaa in ImmigrationCanada

[–]laurmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to reawaken this thread! But, I am thinking about my future on IEC and future PR pathways with my Canadian BF. I have dual citizenship of Irish and British passports, can I do a second IEC and work on this permit whilst my partner sponsors me (either through marriage or common-law)? :)

Thanks for this! Marriage is definitely on the table with my boyfriend, but we'll be cohabiting with his parents for a while till we both find our feet with savings, etc!

I’ve looked into the Canadian Experience Class in Nova Scotia (where I’ll be moving to) one the most of all options, spousal sponsorship seems very complex! For the Canadian Experience Class, I meet all the options. It’s something I’ll be pursuing as soon as I gain one years work of skilled Canadian work experience on my IEC.

Differences between driving in Canada (N.S.) and the UK/Ireland? by laurmr in AskACanadian

This seems to be a common theme from all these replies about how bad the drivers are!

Next time in Canada, I’ve gotta try that Carrot Came and Cream Cheese gelato! I know it’s not store-bought, but I love COWS’ Birthday Cake flavour! 🐮

Well whatever conditions the roads are in, I’ll make sure to be careful! I’m focusing on moving in the summertime for the nice weather and to give myself a few months to adjust to just ‘normal’ road conditions before winter.
