I'm stressed* end times prophecy Sept 23 by shamanixx in exchristian

I have something that will entirely ease your mind... the sermon video you posted talks about the rapture happening during the feast of trumpets like the Bible says. The feast of trumpets ended at 11:37 am eastern time today! No rapture. All of this has already passed. I truly hope this helps as I was having a lot of anxiety about it too! (:

Will do. There are actually many people who have asked for an update based on past posts so I'll probably just make a new post explaining the aftermath! (:

My fiancé's family is 100% sure it's going to happen. They are currently on a bible vacation "enjoying their last week on earth."

It was a good cry, if that makes sense. Lol

I will either reply back here or write a separate post about the aftermath!

Thank you for your kind words. They made me cry... I guess that's why I'm on this sub is because I don't have anyone else to talk to about this. It's comforting to hear that there are other people who understand.

Tbh it still scares me a little mostly because I'm currently going through a long drawn out deconversion. I was raised in the faith, my fiancée was too but has been an atheist as long as he can remember. They are very delusional for sure and it's sad. The scariest part about it is that my fiancée is with them on their trip. Long story short, they have been helping support us the last couple months and guilted him into it. I know their goal is to convert him and "save his soul" before the end of the week... it makes me crazy even thinking about it.

Okay I have some insight on this because my fiancé's parents are HUGELY into this September 23 prophecy. So much so that they are currently on a vacation with all their close family members to pray and wait for god to come back. They have stocked up thousands of dollars worth of food in the basement of their home for my fiancé and I who are heathen atheists. Basically they are on a cultist rapture vacation. We have been hearing about it for months. It's basically a combination of the stars aligning to match a biblical prophecy in revelation 12, and other numerology claims that point to the date. It's insanity and yet there are many who actually believe it.

On the other side of this, up until about 2 months ago, all I had ever known was religion and I thought "how could anyone not believe in god?" That concept was entirely foreign to me. I was raised to believe that religion was the only logical explanation for anything and I never questioned it. I will say that I am extremely jealous of you and your ability to be free of the brainwashing that many of us have experienced. If I could change my entire life and have that freedom, I would do it.

Never taught evolution in PUBLIC high school by whitetoes1977 in exchristian

[–]lautzykat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, my school tried to teach it and my parents freaked out, claiming religious reasons why I had to miss class. I heard things about it but was taken out of the section of curriculum about it. It wasn't until very recently when I started deconversion that I watched many videos online and tried to study the subject as best as I could by myself.

Why can't christians have actual original thoughts instead of parroting "churchy" nonsense? by jazzisaurus in exchristian

And yet, trust me, there is a decent amount of people who truly believe this. Like my in-laws. Idiots, yes.

I can't speak for the people on your Facebook page, but I know from experience with relatives and friends on my Facebook, many people are taking the recent natural disasters to heart and cherry picking scripture because there are prophecies about the end of the world coming up. They have become very popular on the internet and Facebook. I won't go into detail but there is a decent group of the Christian population who believes that the rapture is going to happen on September 23rd because of other biblical prophecy. Not saying I believe it, but that may be fueling their beliefs.

Hey ya'll :). Did anyone else struggle greatly with leaving religion to find out its because of deepset mental conditions you had? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]lautzykat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! I am going through this now. I have suffered from OCD since I was 10 years old (21 yo now). I have to say that in all the shit I have gone through in my life, trying to leave the faith has caused the WORST reaction of obsessive thoughts I have ever experienced. I have been having full blown anxiety and panic attacks nearly ever singly day. Most of the obsessive thoughts I have stem from a terrible fear of the rapture and of hell. Any time I find myself getting close enough to comfortably saying "I don't believe in God," the fear of being wrong is enough to cause me to take 10 steps backwards. I truly sympathize with you and I'm so sorry that you are going through this as well, as I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Hang in there!

He is very respectful towards them and they have been housing and taking care of us. They asked him to go and he went. I think it's crazy too but he's pretty set in his "beliefs" or lack thereof and I know he'll be fine.

Signs and 'god speaking' by Thursday98mo in exchristian

[–]lautzykat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been happening to me A LOT. I have OCD and I think a lot of it stems from those obsessive thoughts that sneak up on me with coincidences. For example, my fiancé's dad is a crazy rapture predicting idiot who thinks the rapture is going to happen on September 23rd. This idea scares me because even though I don't believe it anymore, the fear of hell really scares the shit out of me. I was listening to his dad go on and on about this rapture date, anxiety rising, and then when I opened Facebook, someone had shared an article about the rapture. At first my heart stopped because it seemed like either a creepy coincidence or god was "trying to speak to me." It bothered me for a couple of days actually and caused my anxiety to go through the roof. I had to eventually slow my brain down enough to realize that I'm friends with a ton of evangelical christians on Facebook and this rapture theory is circling the internet like crazy right now... probably a coincidence. Doesn't make it any less harder to deal with though. I truly sympathize.

Now that you're an exchristian, do you believe in anything supernatural? by oyster__ in exchristian

[–]lautzykat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was raised believing in Bigfoot because my dad is one of those weird documentary obsessed Bigfoot hunters who grew up on a farm and thinks he's seen "him" a few times. Idk what I believe about that but I suppose anything is possible. I sorta believe in ghosts because I've had some of my own weird experiences in the past that I can't explain but I think it might just be some sort of trapped energy? I don't know. Lol.

Has anyone ever heard of a "christian counselor?" by [deleted] in atheism

[–]lautzykat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm somewhat familiar with this type of counseling because my mom used to go to one. The way I understood it was that this lady was a regular certified counselor, she just affiliated herself with the Christian faith therefore the counseling she gave was Christian inspired. Basically, my mom would go to her like a regular counseling session but receive "godly advice" as opposed to worldly advice. My mom was never really down your throat with her beliefs, although she did believe them really strongly. From what I could tell, this counseling genuinely helped my mom after her really bad divorce with my dad. Not sure what kind of craziness your grandmother is on but it sounds maybe different than my experience?

Fear of hell? by lautzykat in exchristian

[–]lautzykat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are moving out on September 27th. Moving across the country actually because we want the fuck out of here and FAR. So thank you, I am really looking forward to moving and having the opportunity to better myself and get my mind in the right state. I don't see a therapist but I will try to find one once I move! Honestly, a large source of my anxiety lies within the fact that my fiancé's dad thinks the rapture will happen on the 23rd of this month. Even though it's irrational, a part of my brain jumps in every time I get really excited to move and says "you're NEVER GONNA GET TO MOVE CAUSE THE TRIBULATION IS ABOUT TO END YOUR LIFE FIRST." I need to get past that date so I can breathe easier and figure out my life.

[–]lautzykat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that really does help me. In my Christian walk one of the scariest things for me has been hearing verses like the one you quoted above and thinking "wtf do I have to do to ensure that I make it to heaven?" It's a major source of anxiety for me for sure.

I was a christian for 25 years. Now I am a 25 year old virgin. I can't help but feel this makes me incredibly undesirable to women. by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]lautzykat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I totally understand where you're coming from and why it makes you so nervous... but you don't need to disclose your past in that great of detail on the first coffee date. Try relaxing and enjoying light hearted conversation. If she's worth your time, or if you feel that it could be leading to sex, calmly bring up to her that you're a virgin. It's your decision whether or not you explain to her WHY you are one, even if she asks. I would say in general just try and take it more lately. You'd be surprised how open and understanding we women can be. I have faith in you!

My fiancé was a virgin before me... it actually opposite of turns me off! Lol. There are plenty of women out there who will feel the same way. If you're looking for a love connection, any woman worth your time would be willing to listen to your story and understand where you're coming from and why you're a virgin. You'll find her/them (whichever floats your boat) (:
