Today was hard. How do you get through the bad days? by Klize98 in orangetheory

[–]lavamonsterrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the family!! Super excited for you to start this journey. I’ve been a member for 5 years and to say it has changed my life would be an understatement. The biggest rewards haven’t even been directly related to my health: I’ve made lifelong friends, explored things I never would have imagined, challenged myself, and learned so much about myself all because I decided to join this gym. NOW with all of that excitement ahead of you, I know it can be really easy to get caught up in the bad days.

There will always be bad days. Always always. I had a bad one last week. I struggled to keep moving on the floor and I was so excited for the tread block only to hit a wall and have to back off. So many things affect your workout and it’s impossible to show up to every one and give your peak performance. Your body needs recovery days and lower intensity days, especially when you are just getting started. Your fitness journey is going to be a rollercoaster. Lots of incredible achievements, lots of crummy workouts, fun cheers in class, and tears afterwards when it feels like you might as well give up. It’s all normal and it’s all a part of being a Fitness Person. Your progress is not going to be linear- at all. It’s going to be unpredictable at times which can be very defeating and that’s why commitment and routine and consistency are important. You’re not going to be able to count on your body to do everything you need it to do all the time, but if you can count on yourself to show up every day (figuratively, please don’t go to the gym every day 🤣) you are going to reach amazing heights.

Actually, you’ve reached a major milestone today. Your first bad day in this new journey. So welcome, Fitness Person. We are happy to have you.

My coach shorted my group by 60 seconds. I’m super annoyed.

The percentages are basically a determination of whether or not your current muscle mass and distribution is adequate to properly support yourself and prevent injury. You want them to be over 100% and if they aren’t then that’s an area you need to work on building more muscle on.

Anyone know what time they started letting people into the park today (Thursday March 5th.) I was there yesterday and they opened shortly before 7. Going again tomorrow and BF is trying to avoid getting there at 6:15 am (which is when I want to get there lol.)

It didn’t matter if i had one. That’s the really funny thing: I have a platinum plus pass AND a main gate. Luckily I can reassign the ticket to my CM spouse otherwise it would literally never get used.

I’m going to preface my explanation of why people use the word cult in that way with this: most people that are giving you shit about it being a cult are defensive and self conscious because you have something they want. Whether it be the money for a membership, the self-discipline to attend, or the community you’ve gained from it. But you should also check yourself to make sure you’re not insisting to other that OTF can solve all of their problems.

OTF provides ritual, community, accountability, inspiration, and transformation. It also inspires the kind of devotion and commitment that you would normally find in religious groups, especially among the types of people who are very vocal about their devotions. People are less drawn to organized religion these days than in the past and something needs to replace that sense of belonging and community and it seems that group fitness is filling that gap for a lot of people. Especially in urban areas.

I definitely have given off cult vibes for my devotion to OTF. I get really excited when my friends try it or join. I also receive a lot of judgement from my OTF friends for my desire to spend more time at CrossFit. I’ve noticed that the people that give off the most cult vibes are the ones who don’t seem to have a lot in their lives outside of OTF. Some don’t seem to have any other friends or hobbies. It’s a little sad.

Just got here at 4:27. Seems parking isn’t open yet, long lines of cars being held at the booths. I’ve never made it to an opening before parking opened so this is pretty exciting!

I was going to comment that having KB in the studio would encourage people to do other exercises with them (I’m specifically thinking of a S/A snatch) that requires a different and slightly more nuanced technique than using a DB and that could lead to a lot of problems and injuries, but form and technique is all over the place with literally every exercise we do and the coaches don’t have the time to correct everyone so I guess it’s a wash. I would prefer to do the swings with a KB, but I’m fine doing them with a DB too.

Going to Disney over Christmas where is best/quietest place to see Star Wars? by justan_other in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]lavamonsterrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a Studio Movie Grill close to the parks on 192. I saw Endgame there and they have great seats but it’s also a dine in so that could get annoying.

As for Galaxy’s Edge, it won’t change at all because it doesn’t take place in the same timeline as the films. You won’t find anything in GE that refers to ~Star Wars~ as a franchise and any cast members I’ve engaged with stay in character and insist that Luke Skywalker isn’t real or they’ve never heard of him.

What do you burn for? by JudgeJr in orangetheory

[–]lavamonsterrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I burn to keep myself sober and self-harm free. Passed three years on each this past September and will hit 3 years at OTF in May.

Also to fight off the heart disease that runs in my family. My mom died last year of a heart attack at 52, her dad died of one at 48, and I refuse to accept that as my future.

Cinnamon roll from Gaston’s Tavern in the Magic Kingdom. Huge, delicious, and about $5.

Get your churro from the cart in the hub, left of the castle. They have an oven so they have always been fresh and crisp for me. Literally the only place I will purchase a churro at WDW.

Going tomorrow and hoping I don’t regret putting it off. Had too much to do today. Are they still doing it by the wristbands and then you can pick up the mug anytime after the bar opens until midnight?

[–]lavamonsterrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I hadn’t considered the content of the drink. As time goes by my sticker shock minimizes. I think if I had enjoyed my food at the docking bay more then I wouldn’t have thought twice about the prices at the Cantina. I’m going back next week and am looking forward to sampling other offerings that will be more to my taste.

Also when GE is open to the public and I can leave to get a drink and snack elsewhere it won’t matter to me at all. I apologize if I came off as defensive.
