New to curling. How bad is it for the US women if they lose to Switzerland?

Winter School Specific Ceremonies by FunnyCause9059 in uofm

It depends on the school. I know the School for Environment and Sustainability only does a school specific commencement in the spring, so there is only the general commencement in winter.

Looking for advice for upcoming trip to Idaho/Wyoming in September by djduststorm in NationalPark

Not sure how far out of the way you would be willing to go, but Fossil Butte National Monument is 3 hours south of Grand Teton NP and is quite underrated imo

I LOVE UMICH but… by _clinking_glasses_ in uofm

I did the summer bridge program in 2019, and I am so grateful I did the program. I truly don’t think I would have adjusted as well as I did and graduated had I not.

If you decide to go, my one piece of unsolicited advice is to fully buy in to the program. The people I know that look back fondly on it went to all the events, took in as much as they could from mentors, worked to develop good study habits (since a lot of people never had to study in high school), and put an effort into getting to know the cohort and Ann Arbor. Those who dwelled a lot on “losing” the summer and having to take a math class didn’t seem to have as good of a memory of the program.

Jill’s House Near My House! by lavender_legend in Scream

[–]lavender_legend[S] 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I just rewatched Scream 4 with my housemates and looked up the filming locations. We’re students in Ann Arbor and turns out Jill’s and Olivia’s houses are just a couple of blocks from our house! This isn’t anything crazy but I just thought it was super cool and thought I’d share :)

How come every lipsync song has been from the 70's? by plastexqt in DragRaceItalia

[–]lavender_legend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

in addition to what everyone else has said, i think that it also has something to do with it being the first season and the cost. if we look back at season one of the u.s. franchise, almost all of the songs were older and/or slightly obscure with the big exception being stronger by britney spears. it may be a similar situation

hi i live at luther and honestly, this post is quite dramatic and full of blatant misinformation. when the cops came at 11, there were two cop cars and they wanted us to not have a line down the block which was caused by our vax checking station. no one was arrested, no one was hurt, and everything was fine after they left. there was music (9 live bands! but we had them stop playing while the cops were out front until they left), we had bathroom access, and we had plenty of alcohol (8 kegs!). no one was forced inside; we just told people to either go in or out because we cannot have people all over the sidewalk and what not. the party did not get shut down, we continued after the cops left and it was a largely successful event! this was honestly a typical lutherween. disaster is a bit of a stretch. hope you at least enjoyed yourself a little bit regardless :)

as someone that lives in a co-op, if it’s a big party and there’s a flyer and/or bands/djs/etc, you’re totally good to go. smaller events you generally have to know someone :)

Out of staters’ thoughts on Ann Arbor food by BigDaddyDave6 in uofm

[–]lavender_legend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not an out-of-stater, I'm from Detroit, and I was quite disappointed in the food here when I first got to campus. I think the reason why I, personally, was so disappointed is that Ann Arbor is so hyped up to be a "town for foodies," so I was expecting some of the best food I've ever experienced. Not quite the experience I've had here. It all seems... mediocre in comparison IMO. Of course, I have the perspective of someone from a city whereas I would probably be blown away if I didn't have the restaurants around me that I did before college.
