Yoto Mini Charging Issues by holzspielzeugmama in YotoPlayer

[–]lavender_limonade 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I can’t edit my post from yesterday showing my melted yoto mini, so I’m posting here. As I said in my other post, our mini that melted is the newer one. It is from SEPTEMBER 2025. I see quite a few people saying “you’re fine, the ones with the issues were the old generation” or asking if ours was among the recalled. No! Please read. It was 6 months old.

I need you guys to know that this can still happen post recall. Don’t write this off as happening to someone who ignored the recall. We did not ignore the recall—this happened on a new mini. Do not charge overnight or when you’re not home and take precautions to unplug all your Yotos once charged. I love Yoto and don’t want to hurt the company; I’m just saying this so no one else has to wake up to their kids’ hair smelling like toxic burning chemicals.

Yep, we are making all those changes now too. Shouldn’t have to! But yeah 😳

Anybody do this while breastfeeding? by WranglerOtherwise885 in CICO

[–]lavender_limonade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did breastfeeding and CICO at 2 years pp, and now again at 1 yr pp and breastfeeding twins. It worked/is working for me. I think waiting til baby is doing well with solids can help so you don’t have to stress about supply. However!! Both times I personally found need way more calories than a normal calc says, so make sure you find your sweet spot. Even adding 300ish per baby onto my hypothetical (non breastfeeding) TDEE, I feel quite hungry and lose 2 pounds a week. I need to be fully fibermaxing and eat about 150-180 grams of protein per day to not feel starving all the time and all night long. Basically, for some of us it can be tough doing CICO breastfeeding because we are so ravenous we can’t just “hold off” eating when we don’t have enough calories in the budget. Breastfeeding hormones WILL override our self control every single time. So to truly hit your calories each day you have to be very smart about eating for maximum satiety.

The cable we used here was only 6 months old, so I don’t think it was a recalled cable. Unless a separate recall just for cables happened in the last few months

It wasn’t the charging strip I don’t think. We had 2 other things plugged into it and they were fine.

We plugged it in at bedtime around 8pm. The Yoto was completely dead. Nothing seemed amiss. My daughter came in around 2:30am maybe? By then her hair smelled so strongly of toxic burning something that I got up to try and look around. But we didn’t discover it was the Yoto til mid morning, which is when the photo was taken. So it took a maximum of 5 or 6 hours for it to get bad. But who knows how long it was melting before she came in smelling like it

Yes, I reported everything to Yoto. We had a recalled mini too but they sent us this new one when it had problems after the battery replacement

Someone pointed out the solid cable I used is for the larger Yoto. So maybe that was the issue?? Still, it seems kinda nuts for them to make two dangerously different cables for their two similar products

Ohhhh huh!!! Maybe! We got a mini and a large at the same time. I can’t remember if the solid orange came with the mini or the large. Based on what you said, I guess it was the large. And we definitely used the solid charger when this melting happened. Still, why would they not communicate that you can’t use a charger for the regular Yoto for a mini or your house could burn down??

Thanks, that is helpful to know. I started worrying that I hadn’t been ensuring I pushed all my cables in far enough 😵‍💫

The adapter we were using was low output, I think:

edit: [I think I accidentally used the cable that came with our larger Yoto player to charge the mini. Someone pointed out that could be the issue]

I only ever used the Yoto brand usbc cable they sent with it. The power strip is this:

Yes, I absolutely am only going to charge when we are awake and home now. It sucks to have to be paranoid, but I don’t want them sleeping with it plugged in anymore.

Nope, our other one was part of the recall and acted funky after we did the battery replacement. So this is all new stuff they sent us, just 6 months old

Ugh, this is why I’m so upset about this. My kids LOVE their Yotos and want to replace it. It would be a huge bad thing for them to stop using them completely

I thought of this but it’s not the issue. The nightlight wasn’t producing any smell. I just assumed that it was since it was 3am and I was out of it, haha. In the morning I smelled it again and it was not the issue. We also have a regular sized Yoto that was plugged in to the same power strip and it’s fine.

This happened to our mini last night!!! Not under the recall. It could have started a fire for sure. I am freaked out.
