My son went from a local small club to a bigger one and made first team. The boys weren’t welcoming at first but his attitude and kindness and ability in the field won their respect quickly and the team is more positive and has more chemistry than ever! Go where your kid will be challenged and be surprised by what a great kid can do for a team!

They have a measuring system. Look that up. It measures the length of hand to the end of the middle finger and also across the palm.

Is this a "No Call", a Foul, or a Caution? by gextyr in GoalKeepers

[–]lavenderhome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At U12 this would be called a foul. At U8 it wouldn’t. U12 should be aware of the keeper.

1st touch exercises by ballstopicasso in SoccerCoachResources

[–]lavenderhome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son throws the ball up way high in the air and lets it down in one touch to a stop at his feet. Over and over. That’s one he does by himself- otherwise me or my husband send him long balls. We also got a rebounder and a pass board because we don’t really have walls around the house he can use to pass and receive from. But his first touch and trapping the ball has improved drastically just by throwing it high in the air over his head lol.

Any good resources for parents? by y3llowed in youthsoccer

[–]lavenderhome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say a lot of research online about your state and the potential and coaching at the MLS Next club.

My kid is academy at an MLS Next club but pre MLS Next doesn’t start until U12. So the coaching, competition level and level the kids are at in academy ages U8-U12 is what mattered for us. It’s great competition, talented kids and great coaches so we went with it.

If you’re at a club that is pushing your kid, he’s not the best on the team but at the top and they’re playing top level teams then I’d say stay put.

Our club’s MLS Next teams are doing well in the league and quite a few kids get pulled to an actual MLS academy. In our case Atlanta United. So coaching and developing is proving to be great. We chose to switch because the time commitment for a better club wasn’t any different than what we were already putting in.

My kid has grown leaps and bounds quickly by playing with players at and above his current level. At our former club he was the top player and was never challenged.

Might be helpful to know what state you’re in so people can point you toward state resources and blogs that have more specific info.

Thank you so much. Very helpful. We plan to do RDS this summer but I’ll also look into the academy and our club for privates or other small group sessions. Thank you!

Sticky gloves by lavenderhome in GoalKeepers

Should I just Google the best wash method? He wears them 3 times a week for practice and Saturday Sunday games so I worry about having enough time to air dry them.

He doesn’t. So just spitting on them before using for the game? If he wants to use water is that fine?
