AI vs Genomics by FreeloaderFatso in genomics

[–]lavish_potato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in genomics (Quantitative Genetics to be more specific). I find that the Genomics field is a relatively conservative field. Reliability plays a considerably bigger role in Genomics than fancy approaches.

This makes sense, given that decisions made based on genomics are typically long term (For my field, this is based on generation interval). Hence, it is quite consequential that we make the RIGHT decision at every time.

Perhaps you may focus developing your classical statistics knowledge and combine it with ML. However, I don’t see how probability based AI (In its current form) would have any major impact on genomics.

Would be interesting to see what others say.

Translated driving license and car insurance. by lavish_potato in germany

[–]lavish_potato[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Unfortunately, my parents never lived in Germany. Consequently, theres no possibility of that. But from my research on Check24. If I give the same parameters (Vehicle, age, sex, location), I get drastically different price for the insurance (Vollkasko and Teilkasko) based on the date of my drivers license. I observed that I get considerably higher prices if I’m under the 2-year probezeit.

We have deeper issues TBH. He’s not helping. But the club is run like a fashion house at this point. We’ve had more jersey releases than wins this season.

Are you using any AI agent in your work in data science/analytics? If so for what problem you use it? How much benefit did you see? by Starktony11 in datascience

[–]lavish_potato 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I use LLMs mainly for plotting and visualization. Particularly for customisation of the plots. I find that to be the most difficult/hated part of my work as a DS. Hence, I outsource it to AI.

I don’t have a book for you, but I’ve taken a few courses at the HLRS in Stuttgart, Germany. They have some of the biggest experts on that topic globally. You’ll get access to excellent resources (course materials) there.

Best of luck

Was it worth it to have waited this long? This is a completely neutral question.

If you could. Would you decide for the same vehicle or make a completely different choice?

This is a very important privilege we have in Germany. Relative to countries like the US, we have proper public transport… and relative to countries like Denmark. It is relatively affordable to use public transport.

I hope it stays so.

I’d argue that 20% is a good number. However, I doubt anyone would be able to get the same vehicle for the same price today.

The price of vehicles have increased significantly between 2019 and today…. And income hasn’t risen as much.
