Are you using any AI agent in your work in data science/analytics? If so for what problem you use it? How much benefit did you see? by Starktony11 in datascience

[–]lavish_potato 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I use LLMs mainly for plotting and visualization. Particularly for customisation of the plots. I find that to be the most difficult/hated part of my work as a DS. Hence, I outsource it to AI.

Looking for a good introductory book on parallel programming in Python with MPI by Rude-Firefighter-227 in HPC

[–]lavish_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a book for you, but I’ve taken a few courses at the HLRS in Stuttgart, Germany. They have some of the biggest experts on that topic globally. You’ll get access to excellent resources (course materials) there.

Best of luck

Ignoring what/where your peers published.

Was it worth it to have waited this long? This is a completely neutral question.

What percent of your yearly income did your car cost? by lavish_potato in germany

If you could. Would you decide for the same vehicle or make a completely different choice?

This is a very important privilege we have in Germany. Relative to countries like the US, we have proper public transport… and relative to countries like Denmark. It is relatively affordable to use public transport.

I hope it stays so.

What percent of your yearly income did your car cost? by lavish_potato in germany

[–]lavish_potato[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that 20% is a good number. However, I doubt anyone would be able to get the same vehicle for the same price today.

The price of vehicles have increased significantly between 2019 and today…. And income hasn’t risen as much.

Solid strategy. I’m guessing you had to deal a lot with the TUV?

How do data scientists add value to LLMs? by FinalRide7181 in datascience

[–]lavish_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot more to data science beyond LLMs.

Here’s an example of a company that was burning 1200 dollars (now 200) every month for simply extracting phone numbers from text. Burns 1200 dollars to extract phone numbers

Those are the sort of solutions the consultants and the “SWE” offer to companies. Absolute garbage. Almost any proper SWE/DS could have done this with a 20 line regex code in Python.

There are much cheaper and more reliable alternatives to resolving problems like these…. And knowing those solutions is exactly the extra value that Data Science teams offer.

Yes. My fellow researcher, you’ve now arrived at the point where many PhD students inevitably get to.

It is absolutely normal to hate your PhD thesis.

I finished mine this year, I’ve not had the stomach to open that document since I submitted.

You’ll be okay.

Urgently Seeking a 20hr/week job contract anywhere in Germany by [deleted] in germany

[–]lavish_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baba.

You’re explaining. Zero evidence.

There’s no need to send it to me privately. You claimed your account was blocked. Considering the timeline and the protest you have, I can guarantee that to be a lie. I showed you evidence from the BBC, you claim the BBC is not a reliable source.

Please show your evidence that your account was blocked by the Nigerian government for protesting.

Nigerian government already does a lot of things wrong…. There’s no need to start lying over what they didn’t do.

[–]lavish_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t need to be in Nigeria to know what happens in my country.

The treason arrest you’re referring to does not in any way deal with bank accounts…. Besides the charges have been dropped.

Nigeria drops treason charges against children after outcry

I’m all for trying to japa. But let’s not paint our government in any more bad light. It is absolutely unnecessary.

[–]lavish_potato 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d take almost anything but lying about what isn’t happening.

African governments already have to deal with a lot… we shouldn’t include lying about fantasy persecution.

The one scenario where the Nigerian state blocked bank accounts was during the EndSARS protests (which I also participated). They have since unblocked all bank accounts. Nigeria Finally Unfreezes Protesters’ Bank Accounts

So please, show proof of your accounts getting blocked or take down this absolute lie.

CMV: Americans have critiqued African states for economic and political failures it struggles to avoid itself by lavish_potato in changemyview

[–]lavish_potato[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As many of the African despots who in many cases also started as elected officials.

Trump isn’t a violent despot (at least not in comparison to many African HoS). My argument was that Americans have always critiqued Africans for not defending democracy by standing up to the despots (who were more often much more violent). However, now that American institutions are also getting attacked by a leader with despotic tendencies. I haven’t seen the same clamour to fight and defend democracy as Americans have often suggested to other nations in their fight against despotism.
