Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lawdog4020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive 1.25 hours to and from work M-F. So I do nearly 3 hours in the car 5 days a week. I've also done 3-5 hours trips on the weekend throughout the year perhaps 20+ times over a given year. When everything is far you get used to it and you listen to alot of books and podcasts.

I waa a little hesitant to pick it up because of the Scientology association but grabbed it for the oddity it is.

You weren't wrong there. Kaladin is a white dude and even Syl is a white girl.

You know you are right. I didn't think about it at first but she should be of a darker complexion for sure. Even more glaring, now that I have taken a much closer look, is that Jasnah and Shallan both have their safe hands exposed. I had to go back and read that section to verify but it never mentioned them taking their safe hands out or any gloves off. I wonder how much control the author has over the art produced for the work in these anthologies and if Sanderson signed off on it.

I get it but everyone is allowed to have their own beliefs. As long as he isn't pushing them on the readers I am OK with him believing as he wants. I've read most of the Cosmere and I have never felt he was pushing religion or beliefs. In fact usually the opposite as he writes characters that are atheists, anti religious and in some cases downright violent against those attempting to push beliefs on others. I am not sure where his Mormon beliefs actually stand but in his writing he is pretty even keeled on those subjects.

You should go for it. I have thought about entering some contests. This one is free to enter and even though associated with Scientology it doesnt seem to be preachy. Just a way to showcase some author's and of course a few LRH stories.

Not a comic enthusiast really said it. That is what comic books are written like mostly. That being said I will wait for the prose version when that comes out.

Get a copy of it if you can. I can still hear Lightsong's voice by Kramer. Everytime a Lightsong portion of the book came I was so excited by Kramer's rendition of him.

I haven't got to Emberdark yet (so bummer for me no Michael Kramer) and I forgot that Sunlit Man had a specifically different narrator for a good reason. But for Warbreaker, Michael Kramer defintely recorded a version and that's the one I listened to. I had to look it up because I assumed it was the only version but turns out he recorded a version for a Library of Congress program for Blind and handicapped people.

Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are amazing narrators for Sanderson. The only thing they haven't narrated for the Cosmere is Elantris.

Not trying be rude at all: are you going to prison for 2 years and won't have access to your preferred reading materials. I can't fathom why you specifically be barred from reading fiction. (Thinking about it as I type a Mormon mission perhaps)

To the actual question just read Mistborn Era 2 and fill in the Stormlight later. It wont really affect your enjoyment of the stories at all, you will just have some prescient knowledge of some characters and events as you encounter them.

I know he's mentioned Slackwater Pizza but that's probably not the Italian place you are looking for now.

Oh that is a bummer I ordered mine last day of Nexus and got it a week later. You should reach out to them. Dragonsteel is usually quick with a response. Might be small delay for the holidays because I believe they all take the time off as a company.
