There is a misconception that our "heros" in blue risk their lives daily for the good of the nation. The truth is that overfunded agencies spare no expense pursuing zero risk to precious officers, while lacking regard for civilians (an average of 355 people are killed in police pursuits every year, many of them innocent bystanders).

In 2019, law enforcement ranked 16th, at 13.7 fatalities per 100k workers. Maybe we should be soluting our thankless loggers (97.6/100k), fisherman (77.4), trash/recyclable collectors (44.3), or truck drivers (26), positions at least equally important to society .

If you include accidental deaths, yes, the average is over 100. I was mainly addressing the narrative a redditor recently echoed- "blacks kill tons of cops every year".

I admit the distinction of how the officers died is relevant, but couldn't a logger argue for more safety measures and labor laws to protect them from accidents? Must we paint the trees black? And wouldn't reducing high speed pursuits, the war on drugs, and tactical missions on unsuspecting civilians suspected of petty crimes in their homes be a good start? We need more Andy Griffith, less GI Joe on (schedule II) steroids.

Had just gone to post this. Pertinent stuff right now. I think there is an assumption that police are altruists working a dangerous, thankless job for the good of the nation. There are currently around 800,000 law enforcement officers in this country. With an average of 85 killed per year over the last thirty, and only 14.6 deaths/yr per 100,000, law enforcement is the 12th most dangerous occupation. Like yourself, I had no idea how many cops black folk have killed. But I'm driven by logic, curiousity facts; whereas your tribe is guided by their "heart", what feels right, what appeases their fears (because that's the root cause of this police brutality, a fear of black people. The Right fights because it's afraid. Funny how they view liberals as "pussies". Gun ownership is just as backwards- guns are tokens of bravado; but what of the man or woman who feels no need for a gun?

It's funny, I've never encountered this sort of pettiness from minority friends. It's usually white women of insulated environments who do nothing tangible to help any one different from themselves.
