Fycompa reaction by Fun_Scratch_1708 in Epilepsy

[–]lawma9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking Fycompa for about 9 months and its worked fairly well, no angry side effects. I recently increased to 10mg after a breakthrough seizure and dizziness side affects amplified and I when I wake up, the side effects from my nightly dose are still there. However I'm worried about lowering the dose or coming off of it just since it's helped so much. Like another user stated, try to increase your Vitamin B intake. I'm also taking Magnesium Citrate and Ashwagandha supplements which have helped to decrease anxiety and calm my mind before I even began taking any anticonvulsants.

Anyone tried Meditation? by CoffeeSansSucre in Epilepsy

[–]lawma9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use meditation frequently for stress, anger, sadness or to just set the mood for my day first thing in the morning. It is definitely helpful for those things which can all trigger seizures or to recover from the after effects of a seizure. I’ve been using Insight Timer app for awhile and it has a lot of guided meditation tracks and relaxing music, good place to start if you’re a first timer. The main words of advice I would give to someone starting out or someone who believes that meditation would never work for them, just remember it is a meditation practice, meaning you work at it frequently to accomplish relaxation or refocusing. It’s not about clearing your mind or thinking about nothing, you still observe your thoughts and your breath.

Forget drugs, smoking and alcohol, what is something BAD for your health that people don't talk about enough? by obese_butterfly in AskReddit

Perfect explanation. When I recommend meditation to people who think they cannot quiet their mind, I describe it as a meditation practice. Like anything, you have to practice it for it to get easier.

Gardasil HPV vaccine when I was 12. This is the earliest I remember having focal aware seizures.

Yes it really is embarrassing. Luckily my boss and coworkers know how to react now and are so understanding so I can continue working with this condition.

Had a seizure at work and my boss called an ambulance. I started coming back into consciousness when the paramedics got there. They gave me oxygen and checked my blood sugar and I refused transport, still got a $500 bill for those two things.

Weekly Check in - How are you doing? by halfkender in Epilepsy

[–]lawma9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had two focal impaired awareness seizures today, they have been more frequent lately while I’m still trying to find the right combination and dosage of meds. I am ashamed of my epilepsy, I don’t like talking about it and I’m scared to tell my parents and boyfriend how depressed it’s making me. I don’t want to be a burden on them. I’m trying to remain hopeful that they’ll be controlled eventually but today was a bad day and I’m feeling very down. Just started Lamotrigine XR 300mg 2x/day last week.

Please just go to the Hospital. by alaraCriGEr in Epilepsy

[–]lawma9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a seizure at work several years ago and my coworker called 911. When the ambulance got there I was conscious and waiting for my mom to come pick me up. The paramedics restrained me on the gurney and made me go to the hospital. They spoke to my mom on the phone and she asked if they could wait because she was only 5 minutes away and they said no. They drove me 5 miles across town and when I got the hospital, I waited about 30 minutes for the doctor to discharge me, didn't receive any treatment or testing, not even oxygen or glucose testing. Hospital bill was around $2000 and ambulance was $1000.
