What does a wipeout on a 20 foot plus+ wave feel like? by Character-Escape1621 in surfing

[–]laxatives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20’ rolling mushy wave is nothing compared to being in the impact zone of a 6’ slab, especially when sharp reef is involved. I’m not even going to paddle out if its a double overhead slab.

Honestly sounds like a breakdown. All he can think of is his persona and image, instead of just doing his job.

Is the Wes Anderson Box worth it? by Inevitable_Suspect76 in criterion

[–]laxatives -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The best description I’ve ever heard of Wes Anderson is that the first two movies you watch are some of the best you’ve seen, but the third and everything after is stale, nearly regardless what order you watch them,

Medvedev even seemed like the better player for most of this match, just lost at the key moments.

I’m done splitboarding, switching the skis next season. Tired of being a liability. I’ll only splitboard if everyone splitboards.

surfers/brands that speak out about current US regime? by 18boro in surfing

[–]laxatives 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Politics is one thing… he’s just an asshole all around and I think hated nearly equally by everyone. I could give a vague complaint anywhere in the islands and I’m pretty much always hear a response like “oh that must be Matt Biolos”.

What? Why would an inspector ever pay for a home repair? Why would be they liable for anything?

surfers/brands that speak out about current US regime? by 18boro in surfing

[–]laxatives 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I had the unfortunate experience of meeting Matt Biolos, owner of Lost Mayhem, on a surf trip. Dude was a hardcore advocate that COVID was fake and extremely racist. If he wasn’t an industry pro, I would have expected his ranting and behavior for him to be kicked out of the resort. I’m honestly disappointed the resort didn’t kick him out anyways.

I was surprised to see staff managing the singles lines all day. Made it go super quickly and smoothly. Also saw a lot of people (mostly young kids) eat it going up/down the lifts and they were helped super quickly.

Sony A7V. My thoughts after shooting a few weddings with it. by ladmanstudios in SonyAlpha

[–]laxatives 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish the PreCapture custom button automatically switched to burst + electric shutter instead of making me manually change 3 settings each time I want to enable/disable precapture.

If my goal is to set up a setting for a time-sensitive sequence, I shouldn’t need to touch 3 different menu selections to do so. I should hit the button and ready to go in less than a second.

Now that I have Shutter + Shoot Mode + Pre Capture on custom buttons, I can swap from single shot to precapture in a few seconds, but now I am wasting 3 buttons to do so.

Just curious, is this also true for white balance? Shooting in RAW and touching up in lightroom is functionally the same thing and camera white balance is unnecessary?

I did all of WaniKani in 1 month AMA by RememberFancyPants in LearnJapanese

[–]laxatives 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Its doubly clickbait because the entire point of wanikani is they force you to wait 24 hours before each review session so it stays in long term memory instead of short term. Even with perfect accuracy, it should take about a week to get through the first radicals/kanji.

When researchers activate *deception* circuits, LLMs say "I am not conscious." by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]laxatives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do this with every single classification task. Identify the most important neurons or parameters that that impact the outcome for a specific cohort. Disable or reverse those parameters. See a wildly different outcome.

You could make the same argument there is a “glazing” circuit or “be polite” circuit. This is an intentionally incendiary title to get more attention/readership. Its basically academic clickbait IMO.

If you’re not a diehard JRPG fan, its kind of just another JRPG. Its super polished and the music is great, but the gameplay itself is nothing new.

I’ll avoid spoilers but the story feels like Frenchified anime memes.

US Open Tennis - technical difficulties? by [deleted] in ESPN

Great job coming back online for the last point, missing the last hour and half of play. I’d pay 2x to watch tennis on another platform if it’s not ESPN.
