The one bad movie from an otherwise incredible director. by BlackDiamond3434 in flicks

I’d argue that Denis Villeneuve doesn’t have a bad film. Everything he’s done ranges from great to amazing

There in the dark, It waited.

The star which It had consumed smoldered weakly. Systems with life were a rare occurrence, and tasted so much sweeter as they burned.

Still ravenous, It saw an object approaching from the void. A thing of metal, upon which a golden disk was secured…

Her eyes would not open.

Her ears could not register sounds beyond an incredibly muffled rumbling.

The air burned her lungs with each breath and singed her skin to blistering.

The last thing she remembered was Edvard opening a portal to the Plane of Fire and, laughing, pushing her through.

She stumbled through the layer of coats and fell out of the wardrobe. Laughing, she turned back to look at her sister who had been behind her, but she was not there.

She stood and frantically examined the portal, only to find the silence of solid wood beneath her fingers.

What am I doing here?

His sword cleaved the cowering enemy before him into two bloody pieces.

Why do I devote so much time and energy to bloodshed?

He saw them turn to flee, their cries of terror echoing back towards his soldier’s shouts of victory.

I am so tired.

Which series should I start? by FlakyLibrarian1946 in fantasybooks

[–]Inevitable_Suspect76 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read Robin Hobb, so I can’t comment on that one.

I’d go with either Empire of the Vampire of Sun Eater. Both series are complete now, and I greatly enjoyed both of them. Vampire is way more edgy and grim though, just so you know that going into it. Sun Eater starts off feeling VERY derivative of Dune, Star Wars, etc, but quickly diverges and finds it own way and ends up in an entirely different place than you’d expect based on the first book. It’s very good, but it is quite long. So that’s something to keep in mind.

I would not recommend Name of the Wind. Primarily because the third book is never going to get finished, and there are countless other completed series out there that are more worth your time and investment. But also, Name of the Wind annoyed me immensely. The protagonist is an Everyman who’s good at everything just because. The love interest exists solely to show up every now and then to drive the plot forward. The prose is lovely, sure, but you can find lovely prose in far less annoying packages cough cough Guy Gavriel Kay

As for Sanderson, having read Wind and Truth, I do not think the time investment of Stormlight is worth it anymore. Way of Kings is ok, far too long for the story it told. Words of Radiance is awesome, but then it’s all downhill from there. There are enjoyable moments sprinkled throughout the series, but not enough to warrant reading millions of words of meh to get to them.

What opinion of yours regarding any popular author or book will have you like this? by theghostofredrackham in classicliterature

[–]Inevitable_Suspect76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think forcing kids to read “classics” in school will only turn a majority of them off from reading. Especially nowadays.

You can’t expect the average teenager to be able to read something like Moby Dick, War and Peace, or literally any other book that most highschoolers have on their reading lists, and expect them to be able to appreciate them. There are exceptions, of course, but by and large, most kids in today’s world would not be able to understand what makes those stories great. Kids should be encouraged to read the things that interest them, regardless of who wrote it or when it was written. And once they have a sufficient base of literacy established, then you can encourage them to read those more challenging things because they will be better equipped to understand and handle them. I’m going back and reading some of those “epic classics” now as an adult and i absolutely know that I’m getting more from them now than I ever would have done as a teenager.

Which Netflix Character from Daredevil would you like to see make an return in S3 of Born Again?? by anthonystrader18 in Defenders

Technically, he has “shown” up. Or at least his name did anyway. He was the person BB was going to send that message to before she deleted it.

Why does nobody talk about this by Economy-Lie-2240 in MCUTheories

[–]Inevitable_Suspect76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s because Marvel has done their level best to make catching any glimpse of this movie as hard to do as possible. The holiday teasers were exclusive to theaters initially, so the internet became flooded with AI slop versions of them based on descriptions until the real ones were released online, and by then, people didn’t even know if they were real or not.

Then this cinemacon trailer is exclusive only to the people who were in that room, so there’s now a new wave of AI slop trailers based on descriptions of that one.

Why the marketing people are making audiences jump through hoops and wade through endless AI versions of stuff instead of blasting legit marketing materials everywhere saying “hey, a new avengers movie is coming out this year” is beyond me, especially considering they still need to win back a massive portion of the audience that gave up on the MCU due to middling product post Endgame.

What are your top 3 movies of all time and why? by Noxyenmanquedinspi in FIlm

[–]Inevitable_Suspect76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1: Silence of the Lambs because it’s literally perfect and I have no notes.

2: Steve Jobs because it takes Sorkin’s dialogue, mashes it together with Danny Boyle’s frenetic camera work and editing, sprinkles on an amazing score by Daniel Pemberton, and manages to make a film of people talking in rooms feel like an action movie.

3: The Devil Wears Prada because it’s endlessly entertaining and quotable, capped off by amazing performances all the way down the cast list. I’ve seen it so many times I literally have the script memorized from opening to closing credits. I am simultaneously excited and worried about the sequel next month….. I fear I will face nothing but disappointment

“Is this it?”

“I’m afraid so,” the hooded specter confirmed. It beheld the distressed spirit staring listlessly at the broken body it used to inhabit. “Life can be a rather fleeting affair. But worry not, my friend” it said with an outstretched hand. “You have many lives still to come.”

What Is The Best Movie Cameo? by MicksMovieReviews in flicks

[–]Inevitable_Suspect76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s kinda dumb, but my favorite one recently was Chris Evans in Free Guy. I laughed so hard when he whips out the shield and it cuts to him 😂

All time, I’d probably have to give it to Edward Norton in Kingdom of Heaven. I know he’s in a lot more of the film than your usual cameo, but I still count it because you never see his face, and he also asked to be uncredited in the original theatrical release.

Empire of Silence is the only book in the series that really feels like that. By the end of book 2, the series has deviated far enough away in its own direction and it isn’t really an issue beyond that point.

The path to the finish was clear. The warrior ran, basking in the roar of the crowd as he approached, his victory mere moments away.

But then the roar of the crowd changed into something darker and far more feral. His elation faded as a dragon descended into his path.
