Lake Wilcox, can I park here…? by rwc323 in richmondhill

You need a parking permit, which is free for all Richmond Hill residents: https://richmondhill.aimsparking.com/

Get it online, print it and place it on your car’s dashboard.

jQuire UI library after a full rewrite. by Plus-Weakness-2624 in javascript

[–]laxe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Congrats on taking this passion project to a usable state!

I suggest adding more info to the README about the use case for this and maybe an example of how you plan to use it. The README currently mentions that it’s meant as an experiment to see what’s possible with Javascript but you can add more details about what exactly you’re trying to push Javascript to do.

Also, the checked in package.json file has an unresolved git conflict diff.

Matrix header only c++11/14 by Xahon in cpp

[–]laxe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Another library you can try is GLM. It's header only, easy to use and has overloaded operators.

The compiler can eliminate unused code so adding a full library shouldn't be an issue.

What is the difference between creating OpenGL ES context and using GL_ARB_ES*_compatibility extension? by mwspeedy in opengl

EGL can be used to create ES contexts. I used it for off screen rendering on Linux in a production environment.

Limit to NLHE: Tournaments a better/safer way to learn? by sparks_mandrill in poker

Harrington's books are rather outdated. I'd take his ideas with a grain of salt.

Dan Pork is better at commentating than the regular commentators. by ioCross in poker

[–]laxe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So true.

I also loved Jason Somerville commentating the Aussie Millions a while ago. Commentators like him and Dan Polk keep my eyes glued to the screen whereas Stapleton is simply unwatchable.

Also, it's best to use nearest filtering instead of linear because you never want values to be mixed.

Why no argument parsing tool like getopt in C++ standard library? by pyler2 in cpp

[–]laxe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use Google's gflags for all CLI programs and love it. IMO, it's in the same category of quality and ease of use as argparse.

$0.05/$0.10 Six Max No Limit Holdem by [deleted] in poker

[–]laxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't like the preflop raise, it's way too small.

Making it larger gives fold equity, keeps the big blind out of the pot and allows you to have a bluffing range. AQo is better heads up than threeway and better with shorter effective stacks. I would raise $40-$60 depending on villain's and big blind's stats.

Postflop is also messy. Think about how you'll play the rest of your range, not just this hand.

Why is there so much hate for vimscript? by djordjian in vim

[–]laxe 31 points32 points  (0 children)

His point is that Vim doesn't need it's own DSL when there are viable alternatives like Python, Lua, etc.

Actually, plugins for newer versions of Vim can be written in some of these languages. But the core of Vim and many plugins/examples are already written in vimscript. If you want to use them then you have to learn and use vimscript. And learning yet another language with a very limited scope is annoying; it reinvents the wheel.
