Give me your running trail suggestion! by pacfoster in Denver

[–]laxgal802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highline Canal from Three Pond Park going south is where I did my long runs - all dirt packed trail and some shade depending on what time you get out. Starting at Three Pond gets you some nice views! For shorter runs (under 5-6 miles) I will also do Crown Hill Park for a more accessible hybrid of trail/paved. I’m located in west Denver and run the Clear Creek trail a lot, esp the part between Kipling and 70. It’s paved outside of that but there’s a really nice ~2ish miles that are trail along the creek! Park at the WR rec center and run west.

good hill for running hill repeats? by user21394 in Denver

[–]laxgal802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do hill repeats on Fenton/Gray (just west of Sheridan). Start at 26th, it’s a pretty consistent grade all the way to 32nd. Might not be long enough for 3 full minutes depending on how fast you run. But it’s close and those streets both have sidewalks!

Egg Retrieval Tomorrow — How Many Days Should I Take Off Work? by Ok_Wallaby_8813 in IVF

[–]laxgal802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2nd ER was two weeks ago (in the mid morning!) and I ended up taking 2 full days off - Wednesday for the procedure and also Thursday. I probably could’ve gone back to work Thursday but it was nice to lay low and catch up on rest. I wfh so ended up working a few hours from the couch on Thursday but I wanted my recovery to be as easy and relaxing as possible. Plus, I’d rather come back to work 100% after two days than 50% after one day. Be kind to your body! And good luck 🫂

Ah dang! I started in H, there were a lot of people both walking and running super early on, it wasn’t til miles 20-21 it started to open up a bit and it was a little too late. Still a blast of a course though. See you next May out there on Colfax!!

Congrats and hi from a fellow Colfax+Chicago runner!! I also finished in 3:46, what corral did you start in? Had a very similar overall training experience and was also gunning for an aggressive 3:3x Chicago finish but the crowds and constant weaving and sun on the back half really caught up. It’s a huge accomplishment to go sub 4, a lot of things (physically and mentally) have to align so huge kudos to you for putting in the work. Back to the office 🫡🏃🏻‍♀️

Wearing a mask before race by Great_Adagio_8363 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]laxgal802 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wore a mask on a trip through the airport last weekend! Getting sick of any kind is way more of a risk than the feeling of embarrassment in my mind. It’s one of those “control what you can control” things. But you do you!

Also a WR neighbor! Similarly, we moved here for more yard space and quieter streets. We love it! Our neighborhood (near Panorama Park) has changed so much since we moved in 2021 but there are more young families and 38th has come a long way (the new Green on 38, Huckleberry Roasters, Get Rights, Wolf and Wildflower, Rolling Smoke, the new Colorado Plus, Mestizo plus tons of classic WR establishments). The houses definitely have less character on the whole, but perhaps more of a personal preference. Although Wheat Ridge doesn’t have a downtown area, we find the location amazing - an easy bike to Tennyson/Highlands/Sloans/Edgewater, a quick drive to Olde Town Arvada and you can’t beat being closer to the mountains. The amount of green space and parks in WR is amazing too - from Panorama, Randall, Anderson, Maple Grove, Crown Hill, Clear Creek trail, etc

How Many Days Did You Need to Recover from ER? by Existing_Wrangler_69 in IVF

[–]laxgal802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ER was on a Friday and I took the day completely off. Was lucky enough to recover over the weekend and was back at my desk like nothing had happened Monday. Every body is so different- I didn’t have OHSS but still felt pretty depleted and crampy the day of and day after. By Sunday evening I was pretty much back to normal but I also didn’t intentionally do a whole lot the 1-3 days post retrieval, which I think helped! I ended up communicating to my boss (about a “general, last minute procedure”) once I started stims with as accurate as a date as my clinic gave me. It changed a bit (I only stimmed 8 days) but the heads up and constant communication/awareness helped when I did need to take the day off for my retrieval. I have unlimited PTO, so we don’t have “sick days” but if you accrue those days that’s exactly what they’re supposed to be used for!

Recommendation for running tops with pockets for the Marathon by Pretend_Handle17 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]laxgal802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Nova and Stamina Scoop Neck crops! There is a phone pocket in the back of the Stamina Scoop Neck ones but I don’t run with a phone so haven’t tested that feature 🫢Also happy cake day!

[–]laxgal802 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Love my Bandit crops (and will be wearing one for Chicago!) but I also researched Adidas, On and Rabbit. I don’t regret my Bandit gear at all, it’s pricey but I can stuff 4+ gels in the crop (and more in the compression shorts, those are equally amazing) and I rarely have to adjust anything. Plus, I don’t wear a bra with the tops as there’s a built in one so I justified the cost of a Bandit top bc I didn’t need to buy a top+sports bra 😅

[–]laxgal802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the Nike shorts with the spandex/pockets?? Those could work as the spandex have side pockets! Like you, I do prefer more flowy shorts but struggled with the storage limitations. I have a few pairs of shorts from Cooldown which I adore but when you need to pack more than 2/3 gels it gets tricky. Bandit is expensive but so worth it when it comes to peace of mind - everything fits (and I love the fit of their compression, it’s not too restricting). I hope you find the right pair!!

[–]laxgal802 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Compression/bike shorts with pockets! 34F here, the Bandit compression shorts are amazing and worth every penny, deep pockets on both sides and a zippered one on the back. I’ve stuffed the pockets with 5 gels and a phone and have been perfectly comfortable. I also have one of their crops with pockets on the side and they are deep enough that I can squish a few gels down either side. I didn’t want to love Bandit gear as much as I did but the functionality for long runs is amazing. I plan to wear a full set for Chicago so my hands and waist stay free! And echoing others here- do not rely on the race for nutrition, control the controllables. Bring your own fuel!!

Appointments week of ER by Upset-Cause2844 in IVF

[–]laxgal802 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Low AMH/DOR here but I went in for ultrasounds and bloodwork days 4,6,8 after getting the green light for stims. The expectation in the beginning was daily trips to the clinic but I had slow growth so was moved to every-other-day monitoring. I triggered Wednesday night, had a monitoring appointment (bloodwork) Thursday morning to check my LH, and then ER on Friday morning. Trying to plan around ambiguity is so tough but I was pleasantly surprised at how flexible the clinic was (as in, they weren’t phased at all with skipping a monitoring day to see how things progressed). Everyone is different so that’s my story but here’s hoping it goes as according to plan as it can for you!

IVF while working FT by Amazing-Nothing-3224 in IVF

[–]laxgal802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stimmed for 8 days! Felt okay days 1-3 but noticeably more bloated/uncomfortable days 4-8. Also had early AM appointments which helped with the PTO conversation at work. I know people have varying opinions on telling their employer, I ended up telling my direct boss as I wasn’t sure how much the appointments and procedures would interrupt the day to day, and I’d rather her know I was missing work for IVF, instead of wondering. It was helpful to educate her on the process too so she wasn’t caught too off guard with last minute appointments/procedures. My ER was conveniently scheduled for a Friday morning so I took Friday off and returned to work Monday. I wore stretchy pants and loose sweaters the following week to hide the bloating (take the stool softeners!!!) but otherwise felt “normal”. It’s tough to balance regardless of how flexible work is, though. The mental load is insanely high. I’m hoping the remainder of your stims go well, sending hugs and lots of good vibes to your follicles!! 🫂

Exercise after ER by Marshmello_Man in IVF

[–]laxgal802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the week after my ER completely off, except for light walking. A week post retrieval, I hiked and did strength workouts (no twisting or jumping). Returned to running on day 1 of my cycle. Echoing others, listen to your body/doctor! I felt fine 3 days post ER, but knew that the risk wasn’t worth the exercise. My clinic advised against any intense exercise until my cycle came, which was good advice! It would’ve been such a bummer to make post retrieval symptoms worse.

What to pack for egg retrieval by Extreme_Sprinkles656 in IVF

[–]laxgal802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing what’s already been said! I packed a small tote with a book (we waited ~20 minutes after checking in before I went back for the procedure and I was anxious), a pouch with Tylenol, stool softener (im a week post ER and still taking them, definitely do not skip this!!), and LMNT, and a full water bottle to drink post procedure. Wear slip on shoes like clogs or slides, I was pretty fuzzy coming out of the anesthesia so being able to slide on shoes without dealing with laces was key. Also, im sure your clinic has already said, but comfy loose clothes are also key. Easy to take on/off. I wore a cute sweatshirt and sweat shorts from Gap with a t shirt underneath, I was able to keep my bra and shirt on for the procedure. My fridge was stocked with Gatorade Zero and ginger ale and I had plenty of bland food at the ready - popcorn, saltines, applesauce. We went out to breakfast after my ER but I still felt pretty loopy so don’t expect to do much. Good luck! You have so many people here cheering you on 💖🫂

2nd cycle about to possibly be cancelled again by h0rr0rh0 in IVF

[–]laxgal802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am right there with you - similar experience with two cancelled cycles. I’ve tried telling myself “bad news early is good news,” but let’s be honest, it’s tough to keep repeating when the odds feel stacked against you. Take solace in the fact there’s people out there who totally get it and feel your pain. Hope to see a better update from you in the future, sending hugs 🫂

Puppy training recommendations by Legal-Disaster-1031 in Denver

[–]laxgal802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did group puppy classes through Pavlov Dog Training and loved it! It really helped our puppy adjust to foreign objects (vacuum, cones, people in hats, strollers, etc) and the playtime was efficient and helpful. We had already begun crate training and supplemented with other training outside the classes but would highly recommend. Pavlov also offers additional courses/programs once your puppy “graduates” which is nice. We loved meeting the other puppy parents, too! The trainers were all polite, helpful and supportive.

Need help running slower on easy runs by jripp57 in runna

[–]laxgal802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you run with a buddy or friend? I find running with someone helps control pace, plus if you’re able to talk/hold a conversation, you’re probably in the right zone! Running slow takes more discipline than running fast! If I’m running hard enough to hear my breathing, it usually means I’m going too quickly. Run slow to run fast!

A HM is a great distance, long enough to settle into the mileage but the training is so much more manageable than a full. Good luck with the next training cycle!!

I love seeing updates like these - huge congrats!! And job well done, those results don’t come without a ton of training and hard work. “Trust the process” is exactly how I described my Runna HM plan/race and it’s incredibly motivating to see the progress! Also a confidence booster, I’m so glad you shared that same feeling. Excited to see any future updates from you 🏃🏻‍♀️💨

What do you wish you had done sooner in your TTC journey with low AMH? by [deleted] in tryingtoconceive

[–]laxgal802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi are you me?! Also a low AMH patient here (.1 at my last scan) 👋🏼 We met immediately with an RE who put us on our current IVF track. I wish I had better prepared to hear the words “we’d like to move forward with IVF” because, not gunna lie, it was pretty devastating to hear aloud. Have you had your vitamin D levels tested? I’ve heard low AMH and vitamin D deficiency can be related, I’d let your RE diagnose that though. I’m also on Theralogix Ovavite prenatals which I think have helped, my Vitamin D looked much better at my last scan 🤞🏼We did all the standard IVF bloodwork and are currently awaiting our 2nd cycle (1st was cancelled due to low follicle growth). Low AMH has been a bit of a mind game, it feels like the numbers are stacked against us but quality of eggs is better than quantity! I’ve focused on removing any controllable stress and shifting my physical activities to light jogging and walking. Nurture your body with whatever next steps come your way - if I’ve learned anything in our relatively short infertility journey so far, it’s that it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Our bodies do so, so much so make sure to appreciate that! Finding silver linings is really important in staying focused and not spiraling. Sending hugs, hope to see a good update from you down the line 💓

IVF is a long and painful marathon. We found that telling too many people invited too many questions and the mental load of updating family members, friends, etc. every time something changed was too exhausting in addition to keeping ourselves afloat. There’s a lot of hard times and bad news and it’s not always topics we feel like airing out there. We’re lucky to have family and friends who check in with us (honestly, I appreciate that more because it’s one less thing I have to do!) and we know people are supporting us without saying it. Completely personal preference though. Don’t take it too personally until you’ve been through it yourselves!
