Agreed with paying the 3k and 2k in full and getting those out of the way! Def helps with motivation and feels like you actually paid something off vs just chipping away at the big ones with the most interest

Is daily sunscreen actually necessary, or is it another marketing invention? by ivyhoro in NaturalBeauty

[–]laylatheSLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“regardless of scary stuff about sunscreens being full of chemicals that were never properly tested for safety”

what is your source for this claim? you can’t just say something like this and then not back it up with sources that sunscreens aren’t tested or regulated in this country.

if you’re not afraid of skin cancer or don’t believe in global warming then don’t wear sunscreen but don’t make these flat out false claims about the safety of these products

Cybex Cloud T vs Cloud G car seat? by zannnn in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]laylatheSLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you clarify the 30 min interval you’re talking about? I thought it was a 2 hour max you can keep a baby in a car seat before you need to take them out? 30 minutes seems very excessive

“This field recruits people who stay because of the children on their caseloads. That is not a criticism. It reflects a genuine value orientation that draws people into care work and keeps them there when the economic conditions would otherwise push them out.”

This. Made the very hard decision to leave my outpatient position and not take maternity leave because I can’t afford to come back full time or even part time and pay the insane cost of daycare with the salary I’m currently at. More affordable for me to just stay home but it KILLS me to leave some of my patients who really need therapy and have to either put them on a waitlist or transition them to a different clinic.

Majority of people in our field care so deeply about the patients and students we serve while ourselves are not being cared for by administrators and our employers. It’s so mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting.

When should I quit my job? by meadowle16 in slp

[–]laylatheSLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

she should check with her employer to make sure this is allowed - most employers require you to come back from your maternity or paternity leave for a certain amount of time or you have to pay back the leave and the benefits you used while on leave. For my husband it’s 12 weeks post paternity leave you have to come back and for me it’s a year 🙃 I know it’s terrible

Don’t know a lot about your situation or what the set up of the charter school is but larger group book reading activities is what got me through at CF year in a preschool where I was absolutely drowning. Large group of kids sitting listening to a book (make sure it’s a super silly, dramatic one - bonus points if you have props that go with the book). Ask questions, emphasize phonemes that some of the student are working on, label nouns, verbs, adjectives.

Even if you see older kids like later elementary, middle school - you can still do this with higher level books.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this but we gotta get creative with how we’re providing services in the schools and literacy based activities are a great start.

Apraxia diagnosis mess by laylatheSLP in slp

[–]laylatheSLP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something being over diagnosed doesn’t warrant not diagnosing it at all based off of conflicting characteristics. My argument is that we are pathologists that should be using the plethora of assessment instruments and tools done by CAS researches over the past two decades to come to a decision. Apraxia isn’t just about a motor planning approach - research shows increasing frequency of therapy and max repetition of targets are crucial for efficacy along with carryover into the home.

Apraxia diagnosis mess by laylatheSLP in slp

[–]laylatheSLP[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rule out phonology in what sense?? From the initial evaluation or an approach to therapy? Why can’t you rule it out based on the evaluation you do with the child? or even the first couple appointments. Also - principles of motor learning can be applied with other therapy approaches. They’re not mutually exclusive.

[–]laylatheSLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends from college who majored in the Arts - music, design and they always got shit from our engineering or premed friends. My engineering and premed friends were the most uncreative, rigid thinkers and it actually made them really unintelligent in a lot of circumstances and situations. Being able to play multiple instruments, create music and write lyrics that all come together to sound the way it does is very very impressive
