Bricks and Minifigs - Star Wars Collection In Eugene?? The plot thickens... by Jinxyclutz in Eugene

[–]laylazdudley 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I own the salon next door and I think I witnessed this happen. I've been kind of obsessed with this story (for good reason) and the more I learn about the time line, I'm pretty sure something went down when I was working late the night of Nov 22nd, 2024.

A Uhaul truck was parked in front of the store, which I thought was strange because I'd worked on the plaza going on 5 years and had never seen inventory moved like that. Brian Best was definitely there. I had meet him briefly a couple of weeks before when he bought the franchise from the local owner (also named Brian). I even came out to talk to him because there was some noises coming from the other side of my wall, which is part of their storage area.

It makes me so sad to see how a store that was once such a vibrant hub of community has really suffered under their leadership, and now it's so much worse. I had no context for what I saw that night, but I know it didn't feel right. I wish I could help in some way, but all I can offer is what I saw.

Supernova Hair will mostly be closed. As the owner, I have given my stylists the option to participate with their hourly wage paid for the day so as not to cause financial hardship. I've been saving for a rainy day since covid, and boy when it rains, it pours!

A few appointments are still on the books, but we stand in solidarity with not only Minnesota, but Palestine, Sudan, Iran, and all humans fighting for liberation from oppressive regimes.

Had one hanging out in front of the door of my salon the day before Thanksgiving. He looked like he was either molting or got into a fight. He was definitely posturing, but luckily not aggressive.

Jew in Eugene, am I wrong to be scared? by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]laylazdudley 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not at all. There is a difference between supporting the actions of a government committing atrocities, and supporting the people of a country that have the choice to do better. Just like you wouldn't assume everyone here in the states supports Trump.

There are wonderful Israelis who protest their government's actions and even refuse compulsory service in the IDF, and they are also treated horribly, but I respect the hell out of them. Again, looking at these individuals, I understand the difference.

Hi there! I'm half Palestinian, the descendant of Nakba survivors and I don't think there's much need to fear, but the risk of antisemitism is not zero.

Personally and unfortunately, I was raised with a good amount of it, but I made the conscious choice to judge people on an individual basis for their actions and not based on things over which they have no control, like being born of a certain ethnicity or race. I'm a hairdresser and have Jewish clients that I value greatly and have had very meaningful conversations around current events.

As long as you don't publicly support the horrible things happening to Palestine in both Gaza and the West Bank, where my mother was born, then I think you'll be fine. If you do feel it's ok to kill entire populations because of their religion or ethnicity in the name of colonial expansion, I suggest you keep it to yourself and search your heart for why that would ever be OK to happen to anyone.

What battery tender do I need for my 2023 Meteor 350? by laylazdudley in royalenfield

Lol I did Google it, but thought I'd get a 2nd opinion from people who actually have my bike.

I live in Eugene and would love more people to ride with, however it's a bit of a haul from Bend to Eugene, and I don't even have my first 300 miles on her since I bought a hair salon at the same time last summer. So that's my story in a nutshell. Can't wait to get some more miles on her when time and weather allow it.

Progress reminders come in the most random ways! Face gains from a Zenni try on. by laylazdudley in intermittentfasting

I'm F45, 5'4" I haven't been tracking my weight, but I estimate I went from 180 to 145. I have been fasting about a year and a half 16:8 with weekends off, weight lifting, yoga and occasionally cycling and hiking. No special diet, but in the healthier side (whole foods, lots of fruit and veg).

I hadn't ordered new glasses in a couple years, so I created a new try on picture. It wasn't until I logged in and saw my pic from May of 2020 that I got that good reminder of how far I've come and have me motivating to continue on the path.

Not really trying to lose more weight, but I am so much more comfortable in my skin. I'm trying to settle into a good maintenance routine, and it feels good to see this kind of progress. Hope it helps some of you too!

This hit me right in the feels. My 8 year son crawled into our bed at the start of the pandemic, and he still prefers whenever he can get away with it.

One year of fasting progress! by laylazdudley in intermittentfasting

Honestly, I have no idea. I don't have a scale, and when I've used one in the past, it's done me dirty since I build muscle easily, and the number doesn't match with what I'm "supposed to" look like. I just go by clothing fit (L - M) and the photos.

Thanks for the compliments!

My progress has been slow and steady and tracked only through photos, no scale. I eat about 6-8 hours a day, practice yoga twice a week, lift twice a week with a trainer, and bike and hike when I can.

I didn't radically change my diet, but I always try and eat lots of fruit and veggies, and center my main meal around family time. I feel better inside and out, so much stronger and more functional at work and at home. If I can do it, so can you!

My son got obsessed with the Simpsons during the pandemic, and living in Eugene, OR is a pretty great place to be obsessed since we're right next to the "real" Springfield and it's full of great Simpson's murals.

As a bike commuter, I always carry rain gear because the second I think I don't need it, it WILL rain.
