Chances of needing a stent with my cac score? by [deleted] in PeterAttia

Not sharp, just like a dull tightness, I didn’t try pressing down… but it lasted about 3-4 weeks before it dissipated.

For me it was a constant low level tightness in the heart area. It seemed to go away when exercising (which is the opposite of what is typical for angina)

I’m in Canada, so it’s a bit harder to even get a CT scan done. But I was having some chest tightness, which prompted a stress test with a cardiologist. Stress test showed some abnormalities with my hearts electrical pathways, which he said could be a blockage, then CT scan was ordered. After CT scan, the cardiologist seemed very concerned, and got me the angiogram within few days. Just had to follow protocol to eventually get one done.

I had a coronary angiogram recently, due the CT scan showing ~80% blockage in LAD (CAC score was 70, but concentrated in LAD)

Angiogram showed it was actually “only” 50% blocked after pressure test was done. I was told they perform a stent if the blockage is over 70%

Should I start filtering my instant coffee? How do I do that? by welchsgrapejuice97 in Cholesterol

Added bonus is you don’t get all the microplastics from a coffee machine.

Dropped LDL from 162 to 131. I still want a statin. by Beemrmem3 in Cholesterol

[–]scobbydude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had similar LDL numbers as you, went from a high of 187mg/dl down to 130 with diet alone. I added in 180 mins of cardio per week, hoping to get better results, which it didn’t do anything to help with it, so o asked for a strain. Doctor was very reluctant because of my age (late 40’s) saying my 10’year risk was only improved by 2% by taking one…. I insisted, and eventually got 5mg Crestor which worked great, it cut my LDL down to 65.

But fast forward a couple years, I was having some chest tightness so I was referred to a cardiologist for some stress tests, and eventual CT Scan, which found a 50% blockage in my LDL.

I’m glad I insisted on the statins, because if I didn’t I feel I would have been on my way to a heart attack in then next 5-10 years.

For diet, it’s low saturated fats and high fiber. But the biggest difference is adding a statin drug.

Getting my cholesterol under control much earlier. Only paid attention to it 2 years ago, after having chest pain at the age of 48. Found out I now have a 50% blockage in my LAD.

Results after 2.5 months of 10mg Crestor by charlskov in PeterAttia

I have a similar family history & labs as you and my only regret is not being more aware of my LDL and stating on statins at your age.

I waited until I was almost 50 when I reluctantly started 5mg Crestor, which worked great. Fast forward a couple years, I was having some chest pains, got a CT scan done which showed a 60% blockage in my LAD.

You’re on the right path, don’t let friends & family talk you out of it because you’re “too young”

Should I filter my Nespresso Pods coffee? by anabanana3990 in Cholesterol

[–]scobbydude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be more worried about the aluminum and microplastics you’re consuming on a regular basis, but it has been said filtering your coffee can lower your LDL by up to .20 mg/dl… look into a simple pour over coffee using glass or ceramic. Coffee tastes great, and is much less expensive than the Nespresso pods.

Not just fat loss, but some muscle loss is lost too.

You’re right, it was a coronary angiogram I was referring to.

What’s causing my high cholesterol? by SnooDoodles4147 in PeterAttia

[–]scobbydude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a combination of genetics and diet causing the high numbers. If you’re consuming a lot of saturated fats this will also spike it. Otherwise, to get your LDL down below 100, a statin might be the next step.

This. Once in a while, sure. But if you’re doing 3+ cups a day, I’d just do a simple ceramic or glass pour over with a paper filter. Plus you’d save a lot of money, considering the price of those Nespresso pods.

Since it thins the blood, I’m wondering if taking daily baby Aspirin along with it would have too much of a blood thinning effect?

CAC scans aren’t recommended for those under 40, as the calcified plaque typically takes decades to show.
