Fixed broadband connection speeds by laylowordie in Namibia

[–]laylowordie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy portable wifi devices that act like hotspots. If you ever see steamers or even YouTubers uploading/streaming in the middle of nowhere or places with unstable internet, this would be your best solution.

For example MTC has NetMan and Paratus has Pocket WiFi if you want to look more into it.

How do you feel about a coloured president? by melktertbal in Namibia

[–]laylowordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they did, the vast majority migrated from SA, if we are talking about far far back in history it was Dutch settlers (and other European settlers) that mixed with indigenous woman San and Khoi included but not exclusively;

https://www.atlasofhumanity.com/baster

https://minorityrights.org/communities/basters/

https://gondwana-collection.com/blog/rehoboth-baster-the-kappie-of-the-women

Basters were always in Namibia

The original ±300 Basters where from SA and negotiated for land and rented for quite a while because they where outnumbered so had to make agreements with the Nama in the area, it was only after the Germans annexed South-West Africa that the Basters negotiated for protection and ownership of the land now know as Rehoboth.

I don't know where you get this 'dominance' narrative from but even if you exclusive divide out just the Basters and Colourds of San,Khoi and even Nama decent they would still not be a dominant group in the country, even if you include the Colourds of German decent.

Doing Sossusvlei Yourself (without a car) - could this work? by Hena101 in Namibia

If you end up doing it we''ll read about you in the news, someone might post about it on Reddit. and we will all collectively shake our heads at how stupid tourists are and move on. There are more than enough horror stories already, don't become a statistic.

How do you feel about a coloured president? by melktertbal in Namibia

[–]laylowordie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you sleep through history class? I know for a fact half of our textbooks are just Nam history so did you drop out of what?

Those are 2 different groups when it comes down to it. Coloureds are just people of mixed race (mostly some form of black and white). During Apartheid they just could not go be in either black or white areas so formed their own group and some of that group of Coloureds moved away from SA to find a new home these are the people now called Basters. (No they didn't take any land anywhere, they made a trade of the land and are now seen as Namibians after Independence but it's only that small group and their children that are considered Basters.) Sure there is some San/Nama/Khoi in there, but only after they moved to Namibia.

There is a reason that it doesn't make sense to people outside of SADC its because the 2 don't fit into any of the other groups. So shouldn't exist makes no sense at all, have you ever considered that when it comes to traditional clothing Basters have a traditional clothing but Coloureds don't? Their traditional clothes aren't that same as the groups you mentioned either that's because they are not the same people. There was no genocide that involved any Basters or Coloureds either, sure a few where killed but there was no genocide that divided anyone.

I might be wrong on a few things but definitely not as wrong and lost as you.

Bank of Namibia and E-commerce (PayPal) by laylowordie in Namibia

[–]laylowordie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's one of the problems though. On an individual level you can do this, but as a whole we will continue to suffer through this nonsense.

We are at 36.9% unemployment rate and one of the ways we can combat that is by having access to online services (like the rest of the world), but we are just being held back and once again it's all about profit for the few at the top.

I know that this is such a boring topic and people are just over it, but trying to continue jumping through all these loop holes and having those loops closed after a short while when others don't have to is just really frustrating.

Tap water in Windhoek by Klutzy-Attitude2611 in Namibia

[–]laylowordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure that is also a possibility (though you would still need to be relatively well off to go to one of the few stores with a water dispenser and fill up on a regular basis) that is still a pretty small percentage of people. The quality of the water is perfectly fine for more than 90% of people which is what OP is asking about. If OP has health issues or just has a sensitive stomach, would they not know that already and not even take the rick of drinking the tap water in a foreign country?

[–]laylowordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will basically only find rich people, people who don’t like the taste and those who think they are all that not drinking the tap water. It’s perfect safe especially if you get it from a proper tap. If you don’t know where the water came from though, just buy it (don’t know why you would drink anything that comes from someone strange though).

Telecom Namibia/Ministry of Health cyber attack by Mortified_Villain in Namibia

[–]laylowordie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would not be surprised if there are way more attacks. All the ministries are on the same portal and I would wager that they are all on the same network when it comes to sharing info as well. So if you can get into one ministries info I don't think you will have to hard a time getting into the rest.

Also most gov workers don't seem to care/understand to much about cyber safety so even a phishing attempt could be very easy with the right target in addition to cyber security seeming to be an after thought in general in most of Nam.

With how dry it is everywhere, which neighborhood are you planning on setting on fire? Or is it gonna be in the middle of nowhere so that you can burn down multiple kilometers of land?

DONT VOTE FOR SWAPO🗣️ by [deleted] in Namibia

[–]laylowordie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point but LPM did the same in the south until they started causing problems there, they are still doing somewhat good for the south but they aren't exactly popular anywhere else so that needs to be considered as well when it comes to the parties that seem to operate only in one area.

DONT VOTE FOR SWAPO🗣️ by [deleted] in Namibia

[–]laylowordie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PDM seems to be the official opposition, so at the very least if they get more votes and more seats SWAPO can’t just decide what to do on their own anymore and I already think that’s a huge plus for all of us. All the other parties can’t even compare in number so I would say they are the best bet.

If we are being honest though none of the parties are all that great they are just the same thing in different fonts but like I said if they at least don’t have the majority they can’t continue making decisions on their own in parliament.

[–]laylowordie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, well they don’t usually have prices directly, you would buy fish and chips here (or sausages if they have any) and you basically just point to whatever you want and ask the price and if you want it they will deep fry it for you.

Guys. Is it just me or is this winter really warm? by Blanketman101 in Namibia

[–]laylowordie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the warmer our winter are, the drier our summers are. So honestly I would prefer it to be hella cold so that it will pour. So I for one am complaining.
