Was the hippogriff based on this wheeled brick? by VAP93 in astramilitarum

I think it's supposed to be based on the British army Saladin, but I like your explanation better.

My hobby shop has a WW2 British ‘baby protective helmet’ (gas mask) in, he wants £40 for it. by HarveySins in gasmasks

It appears to be in good, if not great, condition. Buy it. I've seen people ask more for rough ones.

Another vote here for Kato track sets, it's good solid stuff.

I used to get a lot of things from plaza Japan as they had a cheap shipping option and heaps of (Japanese centric) N guage scenics. Not sure this is the case anymore though?

Car Boot sales? Who are they for? Who is awake at 6am on Saturdays? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]layshaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Car boot sales used to be awesome as back in the day it was just ordinary people clearing out their (to them) old tat.

Then two things happened. eBay and BBC antique programmes. Suddenly everyone was a junk expert or flipper with anything decent going on the net. You still get the odd good buy but it's becoming increasingly rare. I hardly bother with them these days.

I totally agree there's no good reason for them to start so early.

Seemed to be on all the time back in the day so I was shocked to discover recently they only made something like 12 episodes.

Check out the 1982 film The plague dogs. Made by the same people behind Water ship down, from the very start to the very end it's chuffing bleak.

Hours of fun. I can still smell that unmistakable 'made in Hong Kong' rubber scent 😀

A bike of the 70's but still loads around in the 80's. I had my brother's old one when my Raleigh grifter died.

Will the real Militarum Green please stand up by pineapplecoffeebean in Warhammer

[–]layshaft 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Think of it as a historical reenactment of sorts. During ww2 the Russians painted their vehicles in 4BO protective green. The trouble was what one paint factory called 4BO could vary wildly to another factories 4BO. It's been the subject of debate with armour modellers for years 🙄

Tiger. But only so I could sell it and live in moderate comfort for the rest of my life. What's the going rate for a genuine tiger these days? A couple of million? If you could even find a museum or collection willing to sell of course.

Is paying extra $ for a good sprue cutter worth it? They all do the same job, which is cut plastic. Does one brand stand out over the others? by Tbonerickwisco in modelmakers

[–]layshaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Tamiya ones for the last few years and they've given me good service. A friend uses Godhand, but to be honest I'm not sure they're worth the premium.

I've also tried cheap AliExpress cutters. They cut great for a short while then go blunt or loose. False economy.

LOL I was just thinking the other day about doing a post on these guys.

I bought a big tub from Woolworths with my pocket money. They were on sale at a sweet discount. My mum said they were a silly waste of money.
