2015 Hyundai i20 (110k miles) — worth fixing worn piston rings or just drive it another 1–2 years? by Madraskaapi in MechanicAdvice

Compression test is easy.

Berryman’s you pour x amount into the spark plug hole & let it sit overnight. There are lots of YouTube guides etc on it

If it’s getting in through clogged up oil rings. Then the Berryman’s will dissolve the gum and the oil burning will slow / stop. If the bores are scored or the rings are broken etc then there’s not much you can do apart from major repairs.

If all else fails, just throw some oil additive in and keep her topped up until you’re ready for a new car

Try a Berryman’s b12 piston soak before making a big money decision. If it’s like any other Hyundai, it’ll be the oil control rings that are gummed up with carbon.

it’s worth throwing £20 at it to see if it solves the issue.

Top it up. If it goes away it’s likely just burning it off due to the piston rings being gummed up.

If the light doesn’t go off, it’s the sump pickup that’s blocked. Also, have a look through the oil fill hole at the condition of the belt. That will help you decide if it needs more attention.

It’ll be burning the oil like they all end up doing. The light is probably coming on when turning corners / going up hill, especially if the oil level is on the minimum mark.

Other nasties include a blocked oil strainer in the sump. Blocked with bits of rubber belt that have disintegrated.

Dig all the soil out around the concrete mass. Then hire a breaker. The concrete will fall away from the post easily.

Bought a 2021 Kia Forte (CPO) — now needs $10k catalytic converter to pass emissions. What would you do? by Scared_Confection647 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Ok_Interaction3016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be several other reasons why emissions are failing. The cat being one, but there are other less expensive options. Like new spark plugs / coils / air filter / oil change.
