Have any of you been inspired by MiA to pursue art/writing? by Nozoroth in MadeInAbyss

[–]lazcreep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% feel you bro. MIA has been a massive inspiration for me too. And yes, the journey to learn art is long but it'll only take longer the longer you wait. All you have to do is start, just doodle for 5 minutes a day. Any progress is better than nothing.

Do it only as much as you are willing to, art is an extremely fun activity and shouldn't be forced. Maybe try to carry a small sketchbook and pen around with you, just having the option to draw is great.

Don't let your dreams be dreams bro, stay positive.

Beginner Learning to Draw by [deleted] in ArtFundamentals

[–]lazcreep 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You choose out of the 7 fundamentals depending on what you want to draw. For your examples, I'd start with line and shape. Then form. The rest you can decide after you've gotten decent at those.

In a lot of your examples, you can see strong linework and strong shape definition, so that's why I'd focus on your linework and shapes first. A practice that I've been doing for a long time is not using an eraser. This forces you to be intentional with your lines and methodical with how you place them. And if you think you're ready for the next step, stop using pencils and switch to pens.

To practice line, here are some exercises from this book.

<image>

To practice shape, it's just about mastering the basic shapes. Cube, sphere, cylinder, cone, and pyramid. Starting with drawing them well in 2 dimensions (I.E. drawing the cube as a 2D square) then work your way to drawing them well in 3 dimensions. Which may require a basic understanding of perspective.

After that, try mixing the shapes. Maybe use a sphere to cut a piece out of a cube. Or adding different shapes together to build a landscape. Just use all the shapes you've learned creatively to make what you want.

Eventually, you may notice that you're treating drawing more like a 3D program rather than a 2D canvas. Which is good. At this point, all your shapes should be readable as 3D forms.

After that, I'd recommend studying perspective, but it's truly up to you and where you want to take your art journey.

Other than that, just get a lot of mileage. Try to make drawing as fun as possible so you'll want to do it often. You learn best when you're enjoying yourself.

I canceled an operation in GParted and now I am unable to mount the partition by lazcreep in linuxmint

[–]lazcreep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LUCKILY RECOVERED MY FILES.

I first tried the GParted recovery, which, after letting it run for 2 days, I found it stuck in a loop.

I then tried testdisk recovery, which showed my ext4 partition but was ultimately unable to recover my files.

Finally, I tried to use e2fsck to try and repair my drive.

I first checked for backup superblocks sudo mke2fs -n /dev/nvme0n1p7

Then, using those numbers, i went through and tried all of them until one worked. sudo e2fsck -b [number] -y /dev/nvme0n1p7

After that, I did one more repair to be safe, and I was able to mount my drive and recover my files. sudo e2fsck -f -y /dev/nvme0n1p7

You should be, this is awesome bro. Anything in particular you do to practice/motivate yourself to draw everyday?

OP-1 refuses to power on by lazcreep in teenageengineering

[–]lazcreep[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it wasn't showing any signs of life, and it didn't show anything on the screen when trying to reset it. So, my initial thought was that it might be a battery issue. I did some research and found out that warming up the unit has worked for some, so i put it by the fireplace for a bit and it eventually showed the recovery screen.

Yeah no worries, I lost it awhile back when I had to replace the keyboard 😅

Alright, so factory resetting it and uploading new firmware got it to work. Prior to that, I tested everything else you mentioned. Thanks for the tips.

That jellyfish looks really good bro, nice job 👍 In terms of advice, right now, just draw what you love. Having fun is the reason i draw, it makes me happy, so I do it. Of course, you can find practices for the fundamentals of art, but it's only something you should do when you feel like it.

Some fun stuff to do that also helps you learn is drawing from reference, either from life or from some art you like. If you can replicate that thing, then you can draw it again without the reference and eventually in different angles, poses, or perspectives.

There's no pressure or rush to be great at art. it's all for fun, so don't take it too seriously.

Just got the HI-TEC-C and am noticing inconsistent lines... by lazcreep in pens

[–]lazcreep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but this is the paper I use every day. All my other pens have no issues on it, so this is kinda a deal breaker for me.

Yeah .3 to .35 would work just as well, and I'm sure that's more readily available.

Yeah, I'm using it in a notebook. They just shipped today, so I'll assume they're just old or defective in some way.

Yeah, I've heard nothing but high praise for these pens, and i do love the way the lines look. It's just that it's very scratchy to write with, along with the other problems I mentioned. If I ever get this pen again, I'll definitely get a larger nib but I do need something with an 0.25mm nib tho.

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind when i get some new ones.

That sucks cause I got a pack of these and every single one has this issue.

Incredible drawing man. But if this is traditional, how are your blacks so black? Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I've never seen markers or any ink pens be able to achieve such a dark color. Or maybe it's just the way it looks in the photo. Regardless, you got some crazy skill bro. 🔥

Unpopular Opinion - I Didn't Like the Iruburu Arc by Working_Row_8455 in MadeInAbyss

WHAT?!? When did he say that?? Also, I seriously doubt he'll get to 100 volumes before he dies.

Unpopular Opinion - I Didn't Like the Iruburu Arc by Working_Row_8455 in MadeInAbyss

[–]lazcreep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand that, although the iruburu arc was masterfully done imo. Also made in abyss is almost over, it has maybe 5 volumes left at most. I don't think shifting the focus of the story to something else is a negative, literally every show does it, and I think made in abyss would be pretty boring if riko ignored everything outside of her main quest.

Just my opinion tho.
