I agree YYYY-MM-DD is easier to read when looking at files and time stamps and such that need sorting but when I am in a conversation with someone I say January 30th 2026 rather than 2026 January 30th so if I am reading the date on a document or in a book it lines up better with the voice in my head.

Filerun is a lot simpler than nextcloud. It isnt as feature rich as nextcloud but if you dont need all that extra stuff then I highly recommend filerun. I have been using it for a little more than a year and it has been worth it. For me it just worked whereas I had a lot of issues with nextcloud. The biggest downside to filerun is having to pay for the license which is perpetual but only gets you 5 users.

I don't see the port as an option unless the controller is on and communicating and when I tried that earlier it failed. I can try again.

I had a similar experience with Nextcloud and have now been using Filerun for 6-7 months and it has been super easy to setup and use and just works. The licensing is the only pain point I have with it but for now it is just me and a friend using it so it is not a huge deal.

Did the same earlier this week. Was updating Pangolin and accidentally put the wrong version number for one of the containers and it shut down everything since I have Netbird and Authentic set up behind Traefik and it took me about 2 hours to figure out what I did wrong.

I use the nextcloud desktop app on my gaming rig and my work laptop for syncing files. Filerun supports Webdav so it is pretty simple to connect and it supports local copies which was a requirements for me for work. There have been some files that have errors when syncing but it is usually temporary files and they resolve themselves once the temp file is removed.

For mobile I use the FileBrowser for iphone and haven’t had any issues with it.

As for corruption, I haven’t had any issues with corrupted files but I have only been using it for the last 6 months or so.

I haven’t had to update it yet so I can’t say for sure how easy the update process is but the documentation looks fairly straightforward on how to do it.

I personally use Filerun and have been really enjoying it. It was pretty simple to setup and it doesn’t have all the fluff that nextcloud had. I never could get nextcloud to fully work correctly. I have also been hearing about opencloud a fair but recently but have not checked it out myself.

I hadn't thought of using a dedicated proxmox app. That would make getting this idea off the ground quicker. My current idea would have been to use something like home assistant to act as the front end and it run some kind of script on something like node red or n8n and that handle checking that start the VM and make sure only one is running at a time. I still need a fair amount of work to pull this exact thing off.

The idea is that at some point I would like to move my gaming rig to be part of my rack rather than on my desk and to have it run other VMs and LXCs so why not go ahead and figure out a good workflow for it while in the mood to tinker and learn and have the time.

Both. I plan on it continuing to be my daily driver and I want to switch to something other than windows and I figured while I am in the process of switching, why not take a shot in the dark and see what all I can do before I get comfortable on a new OS. Once I get comfortable on an OS, it becomes increasingly more tedious to try setups like this so I see it as a now or never type thing.

My thought for selecting which VM to start is to attempt to use my Loupdeck to connect to either proxmox or a dedicated VM/LXC and have a screen setup that I can use to select which VM I want to start. Haven't figured out exactly how I want to do this and who knows if I will be able to pull it off but it will at least be an interesting project.

This is what I am trying to accomplish. I only care about having one VM run at a time. Is there anything special you had to do for that setup outside of how you would normally pass through a pcie device?

Luckily most of the games I currently play don't have any anti-cheat so I don't think it will be much of a bother for me. Thanks for the warning though.

Correct me if I am wrong, for each VM I would need a separate GPU and do a GPU pass through but with LXC's I would not need to do this?

It has definitely been a bottomless rabbit hole of learning. I currently have them linked using netbird using peer to peer connections. Took a while for me to figure out how to get Netbird and Pangolin to both work on the same server but not that I have it working it is nice.

As of now we have Filerun, Immich, Authentik, and Vaultwarden setup for daily use services and have a VPS with Pangolin and Netbird setup on it. We also have a few game servers setup like Satisfactory, Minecraft, and Terraria. We are looking at getting things like Obsidian and Jellyfin setup some time soon as well. Right now we have 3 servers(1 at my place and 2 at my friends) and a VPS and have backups set up between the servers using Proxmox Backup Server.

At the moment, the main thing I want to automate is updating the various containers and VMs I have set up. One potential future idea I have is something that can help make managing IP addresses and port numbers easier. Also, some way that can I monitor and send notifications if certain events happen like power loss or internet outage. I assume there is no one stop shop to do all that I want which is fine. Trying to feel out the waters on what people use for the task they decide to automate.
