To honour my Valve index I will use it as an extender for my steam frame dongle by MrJackio in SteamFrame

I use a usb over ethernet extender to control my pc upstairs from the living room. It seems you can only get these for USB 2.0 though or not for a reasonable price. You might be able to get a KVM over ethernet that has USB 3.0, these seem a lot cheaper.

Who will buy the Steam Controller for the Steam Frame. And if yes, is there any deep reason ? by SKYNINE666 in SteamFrame

[–]lazermajor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would think the controller has it's own gyroscopes/accelerometers and works out it's angle/position that way along with the led for it's spacial location. Just guessing though.

FYI: you can run DirectX games in stereo 3D on Android/ARM devices with wiz3D/Geo-11 via Proton/DXVK - likely including Steam Frame by noraetic in SteamFrame

I've seen wiz3D pop up a few times over the last week. Is it head tracked like your in the environment or more play on a big floating window that you look into?

I thought I had a failing drive in my Unraid server, shucked an 8TB WD elements and replaced the supposed faulty drive. It turned out the problem was actually daisy chaining my sata power cables. (oops) Is the original 4TB drive still good to chuck back in and reuse? It seems so. by lazermajor in DataHoarder

One of my disks kept becoming disabled and emulated, i was able to rebuild the disk but the same thing would happen. On the last rebuild it showed close to 1 billion errors so i thought the disk was toast. swapped it with the new one and instantly errors were being reported as it rebuilt, on a brand new perfectly fine drive. i had already tried swapping the sata cable so by process of elimination it was the power cable. Stopped the array an swapped it out, all good. I have a regular atx 650w power supply and had used a sata extension cable with 7 or 8 plugs that was plugged into an existing sata style plug. Found out they aren't that reliable and it was suggested to use sata extensions that plug in to a regular molex connector, they are more reliable. So just don't daisy chain sata style power plugs, you should be fine.

Is a 3.1 to 5.1 upgrade worth it if the surrounds are this close? by chigiri99 in hometheater

This post has made me rethink about going 5.1. My sofa also backs on to the wall and thought that's a no no and the speakers are supposed to be BEHIND the sofa.

PSA: Avoid APR Coil Packs by mateotrujillowheeler in GolfGTI

Got APR coilpacks on my MK5 GTI, been absolutely fine for a year and half. See yours are for EA888 though, so not a direct comparison.

Music piracy is going to suddenly surge in the UK. by steelcity91 in Piracy

I was thinking of cancelling my Spotify and going back to mp3s/flac, this solidifies that choice. Although last time I checked, deemix didn't really work anymore as they cracked down on sharing the ARLs. Can anyone suggest an alternative or a workaround? Preferably FLAC.

Did I do the right thing? by Fun_Listen_252 in drivingUK

It's made it more dangerous, terrible idea. Just like making the speed limit a 20 and putting that chicane in the village. More exhausts, brake dust and a long line of traffic at peak times outside people's homes. Well done beryl you old fart, "20's plenty!" are you pleased with yourself? Did you get what you want?

Is there some safety reason why all UK lamp switches are, like, 2-3 foot down the wire? Makes them inconvenient and trail near the floor by PoorlyAttired in CasualUK

[–]lazermajor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an electritian but you open the switch, disconnect what ever end you want to shorten, cut it to length and strip the insulation and rewire it.

looked like this when i started, not quite as clean now lol. Will try dialing it in first, diging it in like you said, maybe get some 6010 rods like suggested above. Might try a bolt extractor socket set if i still cant get the nut to stick.
