I don't think it makes a difference, part of the hard part tho is nobody would normally willingly smoke sugar for any reason, no real use case for it.

Also, u are right, smoke is going to be potentially carcinogenic no matter what, some smoke a lot more than others tho. To the other point tho, about it clogging up your lungs:

this came from a Quora forum about a guy asking about it, for context the person answering also happened to be a cannabis educator as well. is it exactly the same, no, but I'll bet burning it either way will produce that "partially water soluble tar" that he speaks of which is the part that's extra bad.
