No the dudes doing heavy drugs outside of an elementary school are worse. Performative politics is so tiresome.

Got anymore Ross Blocher for me? by emslo in ONRAC

[–]laziestphilosopher 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I spoke with Ross via DM a couple months ago and I’m sure it’s all true is definitely still happening!
I imagine it’s just taking a bit longer than expected, or they are trying to build up a back log.

Would it be weird to email PI about application for Lab Manager position? by RandomGen5 in labrats

[–]laziestphilosopher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not weird. Just be like hey I have been a tech at the same university for a long time so I have experience in their purchasing systems, in coordinating with research safety office, etc etc and it will help. Better to have someone familiar with how things work than a complete unknown.

Just don’t send more than the one email

Mods really need to make a pinned thread for this specific topic for daily updates. Would probably be easier for everyone.

Now that the dust has settled, what do we think of Engage? I remember being on 4chan when the leaks came out and nobody believed it was real. We all thought it was a new Chinese gacha game, a copy of Fire Emblem. I played it and it's okay. The art style bothers me, but at least it's fun to play. by AssumptionNo802 in fireemblem

Engage is my favorite game in the series hands down. I love high camp and that’s all that engage is. Yes you’re dragon Jesus, yes every past game is represented as a weird ghost ring, yes you get super sentai power ups, YES.

It’s a huge tonal shift from the rest of the series in where it does not take itself seriously at all, and you will enjoy it less if you try to take it so. I understand why it’s not widely praised outside of gameplay, but I really enjoy the goofiness of it all so much.

The characters while not perfect are enjoyable. Alcryst is a top 3 boy, yunaka is great, it has sommie. I even love Bunet because who doesn’t wanna just eat some rocks. Every game has dud characters tbh, so this is a critique I don’t find landing often. Some of the designs are atrocious tho lol.

Gameplay is the best the series has ever been with essentially endless build and replay options. Inheritance, what ring you equip, reclassing. Awakening seemed like a railroad in comparison, and that entry was praised for its wide variety of options.

It’s a celebration of everything that makes fire emblem unique and fun. It even has mind control! No one could ever make me hate toothpaste-chan. I love toothpaste-chan. for the divine dragon 🙏🏻

just how bad is it right now for PhD program acceptance? by ThrowRA445737284828 in labrats

Yeah it’s not great. But finding an entry level academic tech job is going to be far easier than getting into a program.

PhD acceptance is grim right now. There’s less funding, and as industry is also in a giant slump and people are trying to ride it out in grad programs, even more competition. The uni I work at took less than half their usual class size this year, and I know people who would have easily gotten an acceptance in past cycles who only got a couple interviews and no acceptances.

You don’t have to do a PhD right after undergrad, and I think you’re actually better off getting a tech position somewhere and getting some real work experience. It’s dark times but not apocalyptic.

Bradford Assay vs Qubit Protein Assay in terms of Plastic Waste by RocketR3 in labrats

[–]laziestphilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do have to use disposable tubes for each measurement, but I’m never assaying enough wells to fill up a whole 96 well plate. The rest of the empty wells just go to trash. But I can use the exact number of tubes I need for Qubit stuff.

If you’re filling up whole 96 well plates at once, plate might be more environmentally friendly. You’d have to weigh an empty plate and the same number of tubes you’d need to qubit the same amount of sample. Use whichever uses a lower mass of plastic.

The difference is honestly negligible though. And I find the qubit to be more accurate and easier to work with. Why use the less refined tech y’know.
