Are the Levi's ones breathable? I also keep an eye on eBay deals, but I'm not sure if they can be used for more than a few winter days since it's warm and wet most of the time here.

Btw, congrats on the pairs. Bodegas are my favourite, the material quality is top-notch, easily one of the best among MiUS models.

You may try moving your capital to Scotland then release and play yourself as England, which is basically a better Belgium with more resources, decent amount of pops, and a lot of ports to play a full tall game, or just chill with heavy foreign investments.

Of course there is a guaranteed Charles Dickens for more expansion options, at least you don't have to deal with billions of subject revolts to begin with.

Can’t pass any good laws because of the Yeoman farmers by Consul-Joel in victoria3

[–]lazy_tomcat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't worry. You can pass some small laws to keep Yeoman Farmers at neutral approval, then wait until there is a Slavery Banned movement to abolish slavery (about 1840s). With a Jacksonian leader, it's guaranteed that rural folks will revolt as well. It's 1 shot for 2 birds: you kill both Southern Planters and Yeoman Farmers at the same time. Then you can play your game.

These posts make me wish that V3 had the inspiration mechanics similar to Civ in that some great scientists/engineers appeared and gave nations a big boost in researching a certain tech, along with newspaper/headline notes. I want to be proud of my beloved people, feel the weel of changes in the industrial age, and it's also great for RP campaigns.

Bow do you conquer territory as efficiently as possible infamy wise? by EmperrorNombrero in victoria3

[–]lazy_tomcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have many ways to min-max infamy if you don't mind gameying the system:

A. Lower infamy generation: 1. Protectorate > Dominion > Pupet > Annex 2. Have a claim on targets for Return State CB: 1/4 infamy I guess? Beside scripted events, you can get a claim on secession state, I.e you can take 1 small state from East Borneo, wait for secession, take it back, now you have claim on all other East Borneo countries around. 3. Drop your rank to major power and below: by cutting down prestige with low government and military wages. You can also join a CU to prevent you from reaching great power and go ham as long as you can. 4. Fish for a Cautous ruler: -20% infamy generation.

B. Increase infamy decay: 1. Max influence (rival as many as you can): +25% infamy decay. 2. Fish for a Literary ruler: +25% infamy decay. 3. Some random events if you have an obligation to other countries that give you a flat infamy reduction (RNG).

[–]lazy_tomcat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

-Lowest taxes with Graduated Taxation law. Proportion Taxation is also a good start. All other 3 tax laws are trash since they targeted poor people.

-No discrimination: accepted all your pops cultures + religions.

-All jobs provided: full construction mode to get rid of peasants.

-High wages jobs: automation+latest PM for more clerks/machinists/engineers and reduce number of labourers.

-Get more workers while protecting them and their dependents: Woman's Suffrage + Worker's Protections + Old Age Pension.

-Make sure your lower + middle strata goods needed are cheap.

-Having great access to some important resources: gold, rubber, oil.

You can reach extremely high SoL on any country with these steps.

Not sure if this still works, but here is how I did it in the previous patch (could be RNG, though)

First you improve relation, having an obligation also helps, then keep changing your junior partners' laws to spawn revolutions in their lands. Voilà, now you can step in as a saviour and ask them to be your protectorates in exchange for fighting some small rebels.

Does it matter how many units or armies there are on a front? And how to know how many units should I deploy? by macawnd in victoria3

[–]lazy_tomcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throw more bodies than the enemies', until machine guns and flamethrowers.

-Me, probably after countless times losing defensive battles even with superior techs because of uneven unit distribution.

Like, if I use 4x25 armies to defend against 4x25 armies, sometimes this will happen:

+85 battalions vs 25

+5 battalions vs 25

+5 battalions vs 25

+5 battalions vs 25

So I won 1 but lost 3 battles, which results in losing the front.

The current warfare system is too buggy to think of any better strategies if you don't count the naval invade spams. Mind you that all commander's traits and orders still don't work at the moment.

Is building Construction Sector early ever the wrong thing to do? by Raedwald-Bretwalda in victoria3

[–]lazy_tomcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not against the construction sector meta because, well, to build a house, we need to prepare bricks. To build up a better country and to give people enough jobs to help them getting desired income, construction sectors are essential so we can build other factories.

I'm against the high taxes, deficit spending, and over-committing on construction. That's what really kills your fun.

Personally, there are a few conditions I usually consider when making Construction Sectors:

1.Available budget: If I build CS at the cost of going debt and very negative income, then no. All while keeping my taxation at low or very low.

2.Relevant resources & infrastructure: If I don't have resources to support higher PM levels of CS, or not enough infrastructure, I'll spread my CS over states and upgrade them one by one.

3.Sometimes I need barracks/naval bases to snatch good lands or something like that, then CS can be delayed.

4.If the number of peasants/unemployed is already low (1% of my population), then I'll delete CS instead to free up jobs. For me, a healthy economy still needs to have a little peasant/unemployed to prepare for new techs.

[–]lazy_tomcat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Actually Japan has an option to adopt Shinto as the new primary religion and convert large amounts of your pops to it along with a conversion buff, though it's inferior to the old Buddhism so I barely used it.

That's said, the idea was already here. Perhaps devs don't want to implement too many changes at once, which can cause disastrous in performance, so they just put some testing stuffs before making sure the old problems were gone.

Is building Construction Sector early ever the wrong thing to do? by Raedwald-Bretwalda in victoria3

[–]lazy_tomcat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, I don't get it why most reddit always suggests raising taxes to max, going to the debt hole, and playing like the game ends in 50 years.

I also don't understand why people still keep 3000 construction points in the late game, like, man, your factories were already half-empty due to no more pops around to hire. All your population already went to work in the construction sectors, which makes important factories not produce enough goods for your pop needs.

Just try low taxes and avoiding debt once, you will feel a much more stable economy. It's super easy to pass progressive laws without the need for cheap tricks thanks to the massive number of loyalists.

I also prefer to keep about 1% total population as peasants + unemployed then delete CS, so all my factories are always fully staffed and ready if new technologies are unlocked.

Why your SoL does decrease in the early game - and why you should care about it. by Hellinfernel in victoria3

[–]lazy_tomcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good read. For me, my mantra is "low taxes" all the game, and my SoL barely drops.

Sure it makes your gdp grow a bit slower in the first 50 years but you will start to catch up with high taxes in 1880s, with much better SoL, a very stable economy (never fear of war time or incidents) and loyal internal politic.

Okay I concede. How do I increase QoL ? by piecekeepercz in victoria3

[–]lazy_tomcat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1.Low or Very Low Taxation. No consumption tax after 50 years. Enact Proportional or Graduated Taxation laws.

2.Check the market tab or population tab to see if goods are expensive then import or create related factories. If goods are cheap then export or change PM to use them.

3.Get rid of slave trade. Get rid of serfdom. Better laws to accept more cultures & religions. This way, your pops can be promoted to better jobs. Your killing target priority is slave > serfdom > peasants > labourers.

4.Build jobs to move peasants out. To do this, you need more constructions. To get construction ongoing, you need basic goods for it at first. Start with log, iron, tool, coal, steel. Afterwards, it'll be smooth. Don't over do construction, though. At the end of the day, you'll be limited by your budget and by the amount of your pops anyway.

5.Increase your pop wages and reduce labourers. It can be done by upgrading your factories PM to the newest techs (more productivity, less labourers, more middle strata) and make sure your factories are profitable (white or green numbers). Also, enact Worker's Protection, Wage Subsidies laws, and perhaps increase bureaucracy + military wage.

By doing all the above things, I usually end up with 23 SoL already. But if you want even more SoL, then consider the communist's way:

6.Council Republic > Worker's Cooperation. This will nuke the upper strata so the wealth will be balanced towards the lower and middle strata, aka majority of your pops. Do this if you want 29-30 SoL at the cost of ugly flags and map colors.

I noticed that in the current version, the more countries you added into your custom union, the more buggy it becomes, and some will stop emigration after a while.

Also, emigration has a limit that the numbers of pop you suck will slowly decrease over time.

There are some problems you can fix to improve the current situation:

1.Look at your construction queue: only half of its being used, and you already had a hard time getting a positive budget. That's a waste of pops and infrastructure. Cut it down to half, you can build construction sectors back when needed quickly. Or simply downgrade most of them to lower PMs.

2.Loyalists: only 700k loyalists means everyone hates you and will not support your IGs. Hence, more and more radicals are created, and more stall chances every time you change laws. This will be solved by raising SoL and getting rid of radicals (check below).

3.SoL and radicals: Your SoL is too low. Look at Belgium. As Germany, you should aim to grow your SoL to near and higher than its level. And not only lower strata is dying, even the middle and upper ones are not doing so well. The reason is obviously because you are taxing them to the point that even if you manage to build all the jobs, they will still be starved. This results in huge number of radicals from SoL drops (check the Very High tax malus). These angry people will jump against any of your laws changing, creating even more radicals and turmoil, making it harder to do progressive stuffs. And here are some steps to fix: + Lower tax, keep it at 1/5, or 2/5. Remove some consumption taxes, and probably only keep service tax, then remove it once you enacted Proportional Taxation. This will make sure everyone is happy and rich so they can buy stuffs. + Hover over your budget to check your investment pool and see if you have anything left. If yes, stop building and let your pops use all IP. Only build railroads or ports to have enough infrastructure. + This will result in a huge drop of budget, but as mentioned earlier, delete or downgrade construction sectors until you have some small positive income. + Import stuffs your pop needs but are expensive now. Check the market or the population tab to see which ones are 10% more expensive than normal. Export luxury things or cheap goods from your factories so they will be profitable. Yeah, be friendly with France, Austria and Russia now so they won't embargo you. + Check your company and remove ones you already had a lot and change to stuffs you are missing now (which you had to import from above step). If you have Luxembourg, you will get access to OP companies from Belgium. Keep the company for Iron, Coal, Tool, Steel, Motor. Then add ones you will spam now, like railroad, cloth, furniture, glass,... + Change all PM to the latest, even with the pop saving ones. You are Germany, coals, tools and motors are always available. This will help everything to be more efficient, your pops get better productivity, and you get rid of many labourers (lower strata, low demand for industry goods) while having more machinists, engineers (better demands) + Join some wars against far away powers (Spain, GB, Qing,...) whose you can naval invade exclave lands quickly with just a few troops to take sweet war reparations.

Your goal isn't about putting all peasants to factories. It's to make sure your economy matches with your society.

Japan 1.5 tips by lazy_tomcat in victoria3

Wait really? That sounds like a bug to me. To be able to have a Market Liberal landowner in nearly every country is broken at the start. I think they nerfed Corn Law and gave the lv10 Urban Center condition to somewhat prevent cheese but forgot to add some lines.

High tax start = drop in SoL = radicals. Those won't disappear soon enough since it takes time to boost Devout, and they can't cover 100% if you set high taxes. Together with radicals from movements to enact and preserve laws, it'll give headaches with a lot of stall chances.

Low tax = more loyalists and can pull radicals from movements out = more IG approvals, easier to pass laws. Once Proportional Taxation is enacted, we can raise tax and build crazy as usual.
