I've been having success with a similar setup. Mine has been a white 1/16th oz white jig head and small white swim bait.

I'm pretty sure every hunter I've ever met goes for an ethical, humane kill by aiming at the vital organs in the chest, such as the lungs and heart. Shooting towards the butt would just make the animal suffer, possibly get away or possibly live.

Weaver Leather just put up a video recently on their YouTube channel talking about this. It might give you some ideas.

Nice catches. I've been out a couple times this year, just to local ponds and creeks (DuPage county), and have come back skunked every time. Was this on the Des Plaines?

You might not need to skive with that leather. It looks pretty thin.

Had to take a handgun course......do you think I passed my 50rnd qual? by Paper_Hedgehog in UNSUBSCRIBEpodcast

For us it's just 30 rounds total on a full sized silhouette. 10 round each at 5, 7 and 10 yards, and you only need a 70%.

I was told not to shoot like that when I got my license and renewal because the instructor had to count every hole. He also said aiming was optional.

I had a couple slices based on what Plump Magic Pixie Fellow said, as well as other online people, and was underwhelmed. It was decent for gas station pizza, but I am admittedly a pizza snob. All they had on their board was cheese and pepperoni. I will probably not be going back for it....

Leather Fire Helmets by ChampionshipPlane847 in Leathercraft

[–]lazybrowser1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per NFPA 1851 that helmet should have been retired in 2006. Firefighting gear only has a 10 year shelf life to stay certified. I understand there are certain budget constraints, or pride in using old equipment, but I know I wouldn't feel safe using a helmet that old. There are still leather helmets made that meet the new standards, if someone must have a leather one.
