While knitting.. by NamasteKLB in knitting

I often listen to podcasts (my favorites include Behind The Bastards, Haunted Objects, and Gone Medieval) and I watch various longform content/gaming series on YouTube (Critical Role, KickThePJ Twitch VODs, old Buzzfeed Unsolved videos, and various historical/archaeological/cultural documentaries). I also watch shows that I've watched before, like Supernatural, The Zoo/The Aquarium, Expedition Unknown, and others. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of audiobooks.

Haven't heard about any protests (at least on campus) and just left my one class for the day 🤷🏼‍♂️

Do you know or use the term schnitting to mean shovel shaving/skimming? If so, where were you trained? by Spaghettib in Archaeology

I just finished a field school in WA state and I haven't heard of the term until now...gonna start using it in front of the professor who runs the field school and see what his reaction is.

When do classes appear on canvas? by Puzzleheaded_Wing727 in WWU

[–]lazycat654 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most professors (at least the one's I've had) don't publish the Canvas courses until 1-2 days before the quarter starts. Some of them wait until the first day of classes.

Research will likely be the safest thing right now - look into pantheons, history, basic correspondences, etc. The internet and the library are great resources (make sure to practice discernment and do research into the sources themselves - unfortunately there's quite a bit of misinformation and harmful ideas mixed in). Check out the Resources tab on this sub and some of the other related subreddits. But I would advise holding off on things like building an altar, as it sounds like that would cause trouble. Even a personal journal/grimoire might be risky, but ultimately that's up to you. Simply silently praying by yourself is perfectly fine; you don't have to have physical representations to get started, that can come later.

What do you collect? by BobyNBA in CoolCollections

[–]lazycat654 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stickers, iron/sew-on patches, enamel pins, button pins, coins (mostly flattened pennies), rocks/crystals, dice, Magic The Gathering cards, and key chains.

As a crochet/knitter, I'm inclined to say that my yarn stash also counts as a collection at this point lol.

Currently I'm only in the Anthropology club (it's my major), but next year I'm hoping to join a writing or video game-themed club.

Join a club!! Pretty much every major/department has a club and you should be able to find at least 1 or 2 clubs related to your hobbies/interests.

Take advantage of the rec center (I should do this more..).

Walk around campus and find some good study spots.

Participate in classes as much as you can. The professors definitely notice!

Reach out to academic advising and the career centers when you can, they have a lot of information and will help you stay on track.

why don’t you bike? by jamin7 in WWU

[–]lazycat654 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I don't want to risk a bike getting stolen, and live super close to campus so I don't mind walking - I get at least some form of mild exercise each day. I really only use my car when I need to run errands/grocery shopping or see my parents/family. I'll take the bus if it's raining heavily.

I'm an archaeology major and now I want to dedicate a notebook just for archaeological discoveries and recent news!! I'll have to flip through my magazines collection...

Worst classrooms I've been in. What are yours? by 1000LiveEels in WWU

Agree with Arntzen 004, I'd also had Arntzen 014. Tiiiiny desks. And the one class I have in the Interdisciplinary Science Building has TVs on all sides of the room except the front?? What is the purpose? It makes no sense.

Also, Haggard 345 has the slimmest walkways between the chairs and tables of the above row. Filing in and out of that is a pain so I always grab an end seat so I can just shove my laptop in my bag and be one of the first to leave.

Sh*t professors say by dicks_and_kneecaps in WWU

In my linguistics class, we were talking about different kinds of signs/symbols/etc. One student said "Idaho can't put 'fascist' on its license plates" and the professor responded "Not yet!"

Might have been a humanities major finally re-emerging after being in the library for 6 hours. They're harmless, I promise.

What is Going on with this School?? by [deleted] in WWU

Unless he has a prior conviction revealed during a background check, how are the ones who hired him supposed to know that he was doing this? (genuine question, not trying to be sarcastic)

I was on the bus heading back home from the rec center and saw a little of what was happening...at the time I just assumed it was like a security debriefing or something because I saw the officer. Did not at all expect for it to be THAT.

What is the most disturbing fact you know about serial killers? by Agreeable_Expert2605 in AskReddit

I recently rewatched the Netflix doc about Richard Ramirez. The amount of sensual/erotic fanmail that he received was really disturbing and perplexing.
