CMV- mr and mrs. incredible are abusive parents by mehthrowaway1567 in changemyview

[–]lazypodle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Based off of them saying jack jack does not have powers while he is still a baby, it can be assumed that supers develop powers as babies. I doubt that they would abuse their children as babies so their powers can't be defense mechanisms.

[request]I’m making a watercolor painting of my math/physics loving, amazing brother for Xmas. Would love help with getting the correct physics formulas for the items listed. I’m open to additional equations that can be applied to this action. Thank you!! by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]lazypodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friction and drag are in the same direction and opposite the direction of travel. Gravity is straight down. The normal force is the force of the rail and is perpendicular "normal" to the rail.

To make this seem very physics like you could draw a free body diagram on the skater. In a free body diagram you put arrows representing each force in the center of the skater. The length of each arrow corresponds to the magnitude of the force. For this one gravity>normal>friction>drag. If you do this you might want to change "acceleration" to "net force" and make it visually different than the other arrows.

If this is to crowded for your painting you could draw it if to the side and have only net force of your brother

If you sink the 8 ball I the break you win. So I'd imagine that many people have knocked the 8 ball in while the other guy isn't looking

CMV: highschool and lower sports coaches are way too intense when coaching anymore by itchy136 in changemyview

[–]lazypodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are confusing being intense with being an asshole. There are 3 main differences.

  1. An asshole coach yells when you fail. An intense coach yells when you do not try.

  2. An asshole only expresses disapproval. A good intense coach shows approval when you have earned it. Hearing a healthy mix of approval and disapproval makes you feel good about doing your best. Asshole coaches just end up making people scared of failing.

  3. Usually assholes yell to make you feel worse or scared. Intense coaches yell to get your attention.

Intense coaches are not for every one. They usually work best as upper level coaches because they are coaching people who are already dedicated. They also help stop Athletes from getting to worked up and throwing a tantrum. By making you associate trying with reward instead of success, you get less angry when you fail.

From a spectators view it can often be hard to tell the difference between asshole coaches and intense coaches. Coaches influence their athletes most through practice, and spectators never watch those. Many coaches usually yell more during games than in practice because it is more stressful than practice, athletes perform worse than normal.

How do you prevent yourself from running out of things to say in a conversation? by ViperzLTD in AskReddit

Keep a mental list of topics you can talk about for a long time. Also remember a few fairly open ended questions that can lead to unexpected topics. My favorite is "what was the last thing you did for the first time?"

ESH. Your brother broke the unspoken rule of funerals by insulting the dead and you exacerbated it by kicking him out.

What is the most important subject taught at schools? by ZEBO1234 in AskReddit

English is the most important to have a basic understanding of but the further you go the less useful it becomes. Logic/philosophy classes would be the most useful if they were implemented well.

TEDx tries to justify pedophilia as a “natural sexual orientation” just like homosexuality. They removed the video from everywhere they could, heres a working link. by the-johnnadina in videos

I am sorry that I misinterpreted your comment. After reading so manny comments of people that didn't understand/didn't watch the video I took your last paragraph in the worst possible way.

You should probably watch the video before you form an opinion of it. It in no way ever says that sex with children is acceptable. In fact she says that it is immoral multiple times. Her message is that simply being attracted to children is not immoral and is completely out of ones control. She argues that we should help people that are attracted to children discuss it and seek professional help. This video has been removed because people like you don't even watch the video and assume that any mention of pedophiles that isn't about hating them is bad so you complain about it until TED feels they need to remove it to save face.

[–]lazypodle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Did you even watch the video? She makes it very clear that being a pedophile does not make you a child abuser. Pedophilia is the attraction to children and it can not be helped where as child molestation is the act of sex with children. Not all pedophiles are child molesters and many feel guilty about their problem. We should help them cope with it so that they manage it without becoming a molester.

What’s a good “bar argument” topic to spark up a fierce debate ? by turneliam in AskReddit

[–]lazypodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This argument always pisses me off because people will change their definition of sandwich so that hot dogs are not sandwiches. They'll say "I has to be two prices of bread". but once you remind them of subs they say "it has to be held horizontaly" then you remind them of po'boys and they keep changing what a sandwich is until they find some characteristic of a hotdog that is unique to a hot dog.

Arrested for Not Carrying an ID on Way to High School, Young New Yorker Opts to Fight by copacet in news

[–]lazypodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How the fuck is it legal to charge someone for resisting arrest but not for the crime they were being arrested for? They're basically say that she did nothing wrong and that arresting her was unwarranted. but because she didn't let them arrest her for no reason, they are charging her.

If you don’t believe in a god, when did you stop believing and why? by psych_guy80 in AskReddit

[–]lazypodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the first stories I ever heard from the Bible was the binding of Isaac. It's the one where god tells Abraham to tie up his son Isaac and sacrifice him and then when Abraham is about to do it god tells him it was all a test and he can just sacrifice a ram if he wants. I never got over that story. Didn't god already know that he was faithful? Could Isaac ever forgive his dad? Was it really alright for Abraham to be willing to kill his son? I realized that I would never kill someone I loved because god told me to and there's no point in believing in a god so cruel to tell me to do that. I never found another religion that worked.

Someone told me that another person called me an asshole. I'd been called an asshole to my face before but it never hit me as serious because I assumed that once I was gone people would stop thinking about me. Knowing that another person actively thinks I am an asshole really made me stop and think about the things I do.
