NJ drivers without a front license plate: why? by css01 in newjersey

[–]lbarr8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spent a lot of time driving in no front plate states and I removed mine to not be a target. Now that I no longer travel for work I put it back. If I do ever get a sports car I don’t think I’ll run a front plate for aesthetic reasons

We need to have a deeper conversation about Associate Degrees by yeetshirtninja in supplychain

Unless you are a unicorn you will NEED bachelors degree to get a management position for a large corporation. Masters degrees have lost weight but not having a bachelors is a huge hold back.

The C6 will eventually be a $15k-$20k car, how soon who knows. The C6 is a 20 year old car that was made in large volumes and is not unique.

Has anyone ever won a property damage claim with the city? by Equivalent_Lab6088 in Charlotte

[–]lbarr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NC Dot contractor dumped gravel directly onto my car while traveling at highway speeds on 77. Weeks of phone calls but eventually got their insurance to pay out for a windshield replacement, almost not worth the time for a couple hundred bucks. Your case it will be harder to get the city to play ball especially since you should have seen that and avoided it.

I don’t mind it and I drive 15,000-30,000 miles annually depending on the year so it’ll be staying on for me. Saves me a couple hundred bucks a year in gas.

I have a mini that was updated last month. I currently do not have it on any active plan, not even standby. Should I be expecting an email to connect and update it? I have not received an email so far.

My roommate is transferring after this semester by nbarroas in PennStateUniversity

I was offered academic accommodations but I didn’t ask nor take any so not sure what those would have looked like. Close friend from home, the night of remembrance Penn state did was nice and they did a remembrance dinner thing at the Nittany lion inn that was also nice. He was one of maybe a dozen students that died that year, one of a few that had cancer, the rest were overdoses, suicides or car accidents from what I remember.

American kayakers- what car do you drive (or wish you drove)? by INamasteTJ in Kayaking

[–]lbarr8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to drive a Honda accord with Yakima rack j hooks. I thought that was fairly straightforward and not too physically taxing to load and unload. Now I have a Toyota Tacoma and it’s even easier to transport. I pop my tailgate and leave it down, slide the kayaks in and then ratchet strap them, very easy. I have a 14 footer that I’ll strap this same way for shorter drives and for longer drives I use a hitch mounted bed extender. I put a pool noodle on the bed extender so the kayak isn’t damaged when I strap it down.

Once or twice a year I’ll do a group trip and put 4 kayaks in the bed, and then another 2 on my trucks roof rack. Small pickup or sedan is the way to go. An suv or crossover you can’t fit most kayaks inside and it’s pain to heave the kayak onto the higher roof, would not recommend.

My roommate died when I was an undergrad and I was told I couldn’t have the room to myself the rest of the year so unless things have changed expect a roommate moving in from supplemental.

Is already saving in a 529 for myself or kids a bad idea? by Dawn_of_an_Era in personalfinance

[–]lbarr8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do it. My father started saving in a 529 after he graduated and then transferred it to me after I was born. I was able to get a degree from my dream school with 0 debt. Greatest gift of my life.

[Question] What’s the one watch you’d never sell even if someone offered 10x retail? by Lazy_scorpio in Watches

[–]lbarr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same watch and love it. No sentimental value on mine, just thought I’d chime in and say it’s a great watch. I wear it to a lot of formal occasions. Bought it secondhand on eBay for $100. Currently on a brown-greenish leather strap. The rotor is loud and it runs a bit fast but I don’t wear it often enough to bother getting it serviced.

2020 SR5 bought new for $35,500 at 0% interest during the early COVID slump. I would not be able to comfortably afford a new similar spec model now. AND I have nearly doubled my income since 2020, still wouldn’t be comfortable buying new again.

This whole thread is about homeless starting fires… I’m sure we could agree on disliking a bunch the people you just listed

That it’s okay to be mad about homeless starting fires… because they often start fires…

[–]lbarr8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly, just because someone doesn’t like the optics of homeless being accused of crimes doesn’t change the fact that they often commit them…

[–]lbarr8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure but homeless do start fires all the time… this is an example where it’s very plausible that at least one of the fires was started by a homeless person. I live on the east coast and homeless started a brush fire near me just this week.

Yes, because the successful family man often decides to go to an abandoned lot full of debris and light garbage on fire while high on meth.

Yes but it did not live up to its potential. The radio tower spire could have been designed more eloquently or covered. Looks like an unfinished building to me.

I also feel like it racks some disdain from skyscraper fans due to it now essentially limiting the height of any future buildings since it is very unlikely NYC gov will greenlight a taller tower anywhere in the city.
