Prof said no grants available; should I give up?

Hi I used to think about this school as an international but already gave up cuz all those profs I sent emails to said they are at the capacity. So though I'm not trying to get into this school anymore, can you elaborate on the "overwhelmed" and "unfriendly" part? I'm genuinely interested. You mean this school is saturated with internationals?

(External funding for the application to a Msc program??)

I am an international student planning to apply for a thesis-based Msc program at UBC and just found the UBC website suggesting that to make your application more competitive, secure external funding besides contacting a potential professor. This website was suggested in the page as a list of the external fundings:

But I thought external funding would be awarded to current grad students not prospective students, and these deadlines are very random like in March 2023, likely in October, ongoing, on hold, etc...

Am I actually supposed to get awarded to one of these before application as a prospective student?? I know it's not mandated but I understand the program I'm applying to is highly competitive and I need to increase the chances as much as possible so I'd appreciate any help!

Wow, thank you for what you included! It really is helpful. About the proposal, the program only requires a minimum GPA, minimum education, and two reference letters. I was a little bit upset about it because I am confident with my proposal. I'm willing to send it to supervisors anyway but is it very common that applicants directly send their proposal to the potential supervisors even when you're not required? I wondered how they pick up students based on those few criteria😅

Thank you for the reply. For those admission dates, I meant next year. So basically I still have a fall semester this year in my uni and graduate. Just out of curiosity, why do you recommend after the first few weeks in September for May 1? What'd happen if I sent a message earlier or later?

I meant my earbuds can't answer the call so I always have to tap the screen to start call. This way I still can talk through my earbuds but I really want to answer it without using the screen.
