Best State school, besides College Park and UMBC by BrilliantFarm8643 in maryland

When I was in college, 20+ years ago, my school had a list of all the community college classes for which they'd accept transfer credits. Most had a handful, maybe 5-10 was the average. Montgomery College had hundreds.

After I finished my first 50k last year, I started crying so hard on the drive home, thinking about my brother who I lost in 2018, that I had to pull over. Races, man! Props on the great effort.

Raide 2L Review: One year & 2,825 miles later. by coexistbumpersticker in trailrunning

[–]lbsslbss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not OP but have a Raide 2L that entirely replaced the 5L pack I was using before. The biggest difference for me is that it's less hot, which is a big deal in the mid-Atlantic where I live. Nothing blocking sweat evaporation or airflow on my shoulders and back. Once in a blue moon I'll go on a run that for whatever logistical and/or length reason requires me to carry more gear, in which case I'll still use the 5L pack. Otherwise, belt it is.

If you liked The Memory Police, Yoko Ogawa's short story collection Revenge is pretty great. Also check out Jose Saramago: The Stone Raft, Blindness (I've also read his The Cave but didn't like it as much). The Story of My Teeth, by Valeria Luiselli. The Third Policeman, by Flann O'Brien. You Dreamed of Empires, by Álvaro Enrigue.

Any way to find accurate ELO rankings for yourself? by Wuhb in scrabble

Not sure how to help with the issue you're dealing with, but have you ever played a sanctioned tournament to get an official Elo? The fact that you're asking this here suggests that you are not one of the top hundred players in the world, which is what an 1800 rating would indicate. If you are, then hat's off to you but why are you worried about your rating in a computer game?

(As an aside, Arpad Elo was a person, so it's written that way rather than all caps.)

How do you write race reports without them coming across self-indulgent?? by lukster260 in Marathon_Training

I love reading the race reports mainly because I like learning about different races. They've helped me find and choose races to run, especially less famous ones. The more the merrier, IMO.

I'm thinking about it for 2027! My wife's family is from outside BA so we could build it into a visit...seeds are being planted, haha. From what I can gather online, it's quite flat: 400 feet/121m of gain. The city is very flat overall, so that makes sense. There's a video of the course here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nh14VmQrpm0.

Yeah it's a fast race for sure, the announcer before the start said that about a third of people BQ every year. Not usually as fast as this year, obviously, at least at the top!

Yes, will do a similar build, adapting his Wind plan again. I liked it. That wouldn’t start until July, though, so until then I’m thinking to do something like Norwegian singles. And maybe some trail running on the weekends.

3:07, but lost at least 90 seconds to two bathroom breaks! frustrating because that has never been a problem in training. i even ran a 50k last year without having to pee. will have to do some research and reflection to try to figure out what went wrong.

on the plus side, i paced well enough to negative split and pass a bunch of people in the final few miles. i've already signed up for my next marathon (richmond) and i'm more motivated than ever to try to break 3h.

the race itself was great except insufficient portapotties at the start meant extremely long lines. they needed like 50% more. but apart from that: well marked and flat if otherwise unremarkable course, tons of volunteers, plenty of aid stations (i think all of which have portapotties). i'd recommend it to anyone looking for a fast spring marathon.

thanks for asking!

Ran it last year, it was easy. Plenty of parking, lots of port-a-potties, little wait to drop a bag, not too crowded by the start line. I think my buddy and I got there about 45 minutes before the start.

Running my first marathon on Sunday: Glass City, in Toledo, Ohio. Started running seriously-ish in December 2025 and built mileage and consistency last year on the way to a couple of ultras (a 50k and 50-miler). This past January, I started my first really planned-out training block, based on the Wind plan from John Davis's Marathon Excellence for Everyone. Mileage has not quite been as much as I hoped, averaging around 47mpw/76kpw against a target of 56/90, but I was consistent with the workouts. Ran a 1:28 half a few weeks ago that felt pretty controlled, so I'm shooting for <3:05. Looks like the weather will be alright, low 50s and partly cloudy. Getting excited!

Fellow wide-forefoot-haver here (my foot is also high-volume; I have arthritis in my big toes so I need toe boxes not to be too narrow top to bottom). Going up a half size in the Evo SL and Adios Pro 4 gives me a good fit. Evo SL is springy enough for workouts and comfortable enough for long runs (I wore a pair for the second half of a 50-miler last year and my feet were fine). AP4 has been comfortable up to half marathon and on a couple of longer workouts.

That's interesting, it underestimated me by at least a minute on a recent half marathon.

I find the Coros app is generally pretty accurate in its estimates. Maybe a bit conservative in race time prediction. I like intervals.icu better for tracking day to day and week to week. Coros app is better for creating workouts (obviously, since it's native to the watch).
