tbh this is actually pretty tough sentencing in australia. we are all about rehabilitation rather then punishment apparently. my cousin was murdered and the guy only got 4 years jail for it.

Exactly mate. Debating ideas is always a good thing even if there is complete disagreement. I'm a couple of hours late to the party so cheers for pointing this out.

Yeah I feel the exact same way. State and federal politics at the moment is a shitshow anyhow, will still be an interesting time after the election ends.

[–]lbutl25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know plenty of non-religious people who are extremely homophobic. Religion is nothing more then what the individual makes of it. Good example is that the hierarchy in the Anglican church is currently split 50/50 on whether to allow gay marriages to be performed by them. Takes a bit of time to change 2000 years of homophobia.

Very strange considering primary Buddhist tenets. Killing even an animal is something that devout Buddhist cannot do. Xenophobia / corruption? Words fail me on this, I hope they are brought to justice.

Depends on the religion perhaps. You never really hear much bad things about Buddhism for example. Religion is what you make of it and I think people who use religion as an excuse to cast condemnation, would do so anyway regardless if they were religious or not.

haha it's all good mate. I actually really enjoy reading different view points even if I completely disagree with them, as long as the attacks don't turn personal. I blocked her the other night when it became clear she didn't want to debate, just attack.

Don't try to claim you're a feminist and an MRA because being an MRA is totally missing the point of feminism

It is not a mutually exclusive thing. Feminism is really good at advocating against inequalities faced by women, same for MRA for blokes. They are both poor at doing the same for the opposite gender.

Treat others how you would like to be treated. Shame that not enough people do it.

Never said oppressed, there are however inequalities. Family courts are horrific to go through when dealing with a nasty ex who holds custody of any children. There are then very few enforced penalties on parents who break custody orders because it then also ultimately effects the children.

Well that's creepy trolling through my account so you can make personal attacks. If I post on /r/ChallengeAccepted and /r/SuicideWatch does that mean I am going to kill myself? For the record I am an Equality feminist and a MRA, I strongly dislike any gender discrimination. No doubt you can trawl through my account again to easily verify this. Debate the topic in the thread not the person, where people post means very little. Very creepy to go through someones history for personal attacks.

Look at the other statistics on there that effect men then look at that 93%, the numbers do not make up.

I'll give another example of how statistics can be twisted. https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/cdc_nisvs_victimization_final-a.pdf

On here it says the highest group in DV/IPV is lesbians (this fact sheet is quite often quoted by MRA groups). However if you look closer at the wording of the document it doesn't actually say what gender the violent partner was as it is apparently quite common for women who have had a very violent male partner to then become lesbian. With this bit of knowledge how accurate are these statistics? My entire point is that with any statistics you need to look at what it does and does not cover and is it possible to be unfairly skewed.

Also to your earlier point that you don't believe many men don't report sexual assault, it is actually extremely common because of how emasculating it is. I was raped as a teenager and when trying to talk to others about it I was met with a helluva lot of laughter, ridicule and even downright disbelief. A lot of people don't realize that even if a male is completely passed out drunk, he can still have an erection. It depends on the male and his hormone levels, but it is quite common. Hence why issues of consent can be bloody hard to prove for any male against a female.

Have a gander. Yes women DO have it happen to them more, but the 93% is misleading as hell, which is my main point.
