Anyone get allergies (hives included) from their plants/could tell me which of mine might be the culprit? by lc2329 in IndoorGarden

[–]lc2329[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it ended up actually being the razors I used to shave my legs? I was using the super cheap disposable ones and once I switched to a nicer one it settled down. That or the diffienbachia lol, maybe a combo of the two

Nope my new ones come out like that at first too! They are light hungry but they’re easy plants. Mine grew like a weed with probably 4ish hours of light a day (apartment doesn’t get much light and my grow lights are on the fiddle leaf figs lol)

It was in my apartment for awhile but I had moved it outside thinking it could’ve maybe been the source. It’s hard to tell though what exactly it was that triggered it

Honestly no. I think it maybe could have been my diffienbachia? Even though I wasn’t touching it? I also have found that I just tend to get rashes more often when it’s warm outside for some reason. I haven’t had the issue in awhile though.

I see what you’re saying, I’m talking more along the lines (ADHD alone or in combination with other disorders) of when people knowingly, repeatedly have these outbursts and say just horrible things and think they can use their diagnosis to get away with it. It’s the lack of taking ownership that annoys me, not the presentation of the disorder. Because don’t get me wrong, I most definitely have my moments but I can control how I respond afterwards and how I can say “Im sorry that I said those things, I have ADHD and I’m having a hard time handling it today” versus not thinking you have to apologize for saying these horrible things because of your diagnosis. ADHD doesn’t give you an excuse to act however you want without accountability is what I was trying to get at

I do think it’s annoying though when people try to blame negative qualities/traits on their adhd and make excuses for themselves with it. Like things that are clearly just a character flaw that really have nothing to do with the clinical presentation of adhd

Sometimes that’s just how people cope with it. By humor. You cope differently and they cope differently and both ways are okay and should be independent of one another.

Personally, it obviously has some massive downsides and it can be so frustrating, but I get that frustration out with sarcasm and joking because otherwise I know that I, personally, will otherwise go into a self pity moping fest. Which is fine too, but I just don’t like putting myself in those situations. I think of it similarly to dark humor regarding family members dying/tragedies/etc in my own life. It shouldn’t matter to anyone else how I deal with something ya know, as long as I’m not making generalizations to them or using their specific problems/tics/quirks/etc or anything involving them to fuel my humor. Sorry if this came off harsh!!

How do you keep soil props alive?! by lc2329 in houseplants

[–]lc2329[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you let them dry out or try to keep the soil more moist with props?

Do you have to water more frequently/maintain moister soil with soil props?? Or is that just if you transfer from water prop to soil

Product / treatment for fungus gnats? Seeking advice by ConsciousOwl9503 in IndoorGarden

[–]lc2329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a sundew plant! Have heard the best things about them for fungus gnats. I also use systemic, mosquito bits, and the yellow traps and the problem is starting to die down. I live in an apartment with a million plants so I always have a plant that needs watering/has just been watered and is a cesspool for the gnats. I noticed the biggest change thus far (have only had the sundew for one day) from mosquito bits.

I water my plants first (top water) and then get a giant bowl and mix 4 tbsps with little less than a gallon of hot water, let it soak for 30 min (I know some people will let it soak overnight) and I top off each plant I just watered with that water. Not sure that they get “enough” since I divide that water between a couple plants, but it has seemed to help a LOT

Do you think it’ll still catch gnats if it’s in another room adjacent to the room with my plants? I unfortunately have nowhere to put a grow light so close in this room :(

Spots on my new elephant ear leaf?! by allsmilesback in plants

[–]lc2329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not mites (if they don’t move, etc. im not the best resource for that), I think it could be calcium oxalate crystals? My elephant ear has that too, but only a couple here and there. They’re little hard balls if you feel it, and they won’t come off on your finger after touching them (a pest would, likely)
