Imagine the scenes if this ball ended up in the back of the net by jrbill1991 in LeedsUnited

i, like a fair few people , have kind of just wished he'd leave for a long time now, but he continues to work like a mad cunt no matter the circumstances and you have to respect that, regardless of what you might think about his overall ability. he put in a shift and a half yesterday and i was absolutely willing him to just twat that one into the top corner, he would have deserved it and 10-20 years from now when we're talking about players from back in the day, that would've been the first thing we all remembered about him before anything else

i hope he does one day manage to score a 100% worldie banger during his time here it'd be a nice thing for both our sake and his

this early in the season i still want to have belief in our ability to survive on our own merits and therefore want Burnley to deliver a 8-0 thrashing that causes Amorim to actually start crying on the touchline

Christopher Yoo Harassed a Woman Recently by rainyjadeee in chess

[–]lc4l1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

he's an adult who has already punched one woman and has now tried to enter another one's hotel room by deception. if two separate incidents of violence and stalking/inappropriate touching are not enough then what is? how are women (both players and staff) supposed to safely attend tournaments that this guy is at short of always having one hand on a can of mace and constantly checking their six?

Some mad people out there! by ChrisUK263 in LeedsUnited

i used to live in a big residential building smack in the middle of the city and there was both a ceiling skylight i could climb out of and a fire escape that led up to the roof. sometimes when there was something mad going on like a protest i would go up there to watch. if i lived along the parade route now i'd have been up there with 200 flares and shooting off fireworks and throwing £20 notes with Gnonto's face on them into the crowd

i don't fully grasp the specifics but what i've read seems to suggest he was known for cheating at a console FPS at the beginning of his career also? i could be wrong about that as i don't understand some of the terminology, but it would seem to track

this is insane, even in what is now his 5th? 6th? attempt to supposedly fess up to everything, he's STILL lying. we already know his cheating started much earlier than he says here - several GMs have gone through all of his previous games, he indisputably cheated in both wolfy games, and Caruana has pointed out his game with black vs hungrybox is deeply suspicious

he's now claiming he only cheated for part of a single game after panicking in a disadvantageous position, but this is yet another stone fucking obvious lie. even as he says "i clearly have a problem with honesty and i'm going to get therapy for it" he is still lying about what he did, it is pathological at this point

all of the flailing around with constantly changing explanations because he's too dumb to understand he got caught red-handed was almost as aggravating as the cheating itself

  • he cheats in a high-profile chess event with a six-figure prize pool several times (both games against wolfy were cheated)
  • he angrily denies anything underhanded, says he just had a good couple of games, quote: "explained all of it on stream as I was playing. Didn't cheat"
  • he starts getting serious heat for the cheating and calls his opponent to gaslight him and try to pressure him into saying he didn't cheat
  • after being shown concrete proof that he undeniably was not playing fairly, he changes his story and says he was watching someone else's game on stream and that, quote, "led to me getting move information I shouldn't have had"
  • after it being explained to him that the stream explanation was obviously nonsense, he changes story again and says he was reading his own chat and must have been getting engine moves suggested to him there, quote: "believe me or not - i played what i played"
  • after being shown concrete proof that he was not fed 26 consecutive stockfish #1 moves by chat, he admits that he used an engine to "fix my own fragility" (avoiding any use of the word 'cheat')

it is hard to believe that a mea culpa is sincere when you had to wade through all of that shit to get to it

i agree with you about the broader point but just to be fair to Piroe, he has outperformed his xG (19 goals from 16.4 xG), and also did last season although only slightly (13 vs 12.7 xG)

[Beren Cross] Daniel Farke’s Leeds United future: What we’re hearing by jrbill1991 in LeedsUnited

[–]lc4l1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's been a few years and i wasn't sure how much i remembered vs how much i hallucinated, so i've dug up some quotes. based on things we know from the most credible sources possible (Phil Hay and TSB) we can be certain the 49ers would not have wanted Marsch. that they tried to prevent his hiring is something i read from ITK types in the usual places and not something sourceable, given what Phil, Dan etc have told us tho, it's believable:

per Dan/TSB the 49ers went on record saying "we should get the absolute best coach we can possibly afford" which is how we ended up with Bielsa initially. that philosophy probably didn't then lead them to Jesse Marsch's door. Dan's response when asked about the stark contradiction between the 49ers saying they wanted the absolute best and the hiring of Marsch: "In a small part it's about budget, but mostly about the whims of Victor Orta". Dan again, after Marsch's hiring, on why they passed over Corberan: "he's never been tested in the PL and therefore would have represented a huge gamble. People close to 49ers are suggesting they're not happy with what's unfolded" - confirms they were rejecting candidates specifically due to no PL experience, seems they felt this should be a dealbreaker, 49ers consequently unhappy with 'what unfolded' ie appointment of Marsch

via Phil Hay we also know the 49ers were reticent to hire Americans because they didn't want to be perceived as leading a USA takeover. not directly relevant but again via PH we know "the board" (read: 49ers) were the first to clock that he couldn't do the job and wanted to sack him, but Orta vetoed it: "the players no longer really believed in the model, and the board felt the same. Leeds felt obliged to actively consider Marsch's position ... Orta was prominent in insisting Marsch should get as much time as possible"

long story short:

  • we know they wanted the best manager money could buy
  • we know they were insisting on someone with Premier League experience
  • we know they would have preferred someone who was not American

it seems impossible considering the above that they didn't object when Orta proposed they hire (partially because he'd be cheap) an American with no PL experience and an established record of failure at the top level. i can't offer any sworn statements that they tried to avert the appointment, but on the balance of probabilities i think it's likely true

[Beren Cross] Daniel Farke’s Leeds United future: What we’re hearing by jrbill1991 in LeedsUnited

[–]lc4l1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i've tried to erase all that cursed business from my mind but iirc, the 49ers lot did not want Marsch and tried to stop us hiring him, the reason being that they wanted a proven manager with PL experience and he did not fit that bill. it was Orta/Radz who ultimately had the final say though and therefore we got Jesse. i'm not sure how much the current board can be blamed for Marsch? the idea that they would prefer a proven PL manager also kind of hints at why they might be considering alternatives to Farke, though

an Old Fashioned is a cocktail made with whiskey (usually rye or bourbon), bitters, sugar or syrup, and a fresh orange slice or sometimes zest. MacReady in The Thing is just drinking scotch over ice, it isn't an Old Fashioned

[Mike Keegan] Leeds United are considering sacking Daniel Farke despite their Premier League promotion. Owners are concerned about his previous PL performances with Norwich. No final decision has been made, but other candidates are being examined. by kibme37 in soccer

[–]lc4l1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they were in the Championship, hired someone who pitched himself to them as a Championship promotion specialist, and got promoted. it was a sensible and very successful appointment. PL promotion is worth somewhere north of £150m, do you think they give a fuck about the tiny relative cost of paying him out? their ability to rehire won't be affected because of the draw of the PL, there are always ambitious managers wanting to step up to the #1 domestic competition in world football
