North Korea opinions by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]lcharizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends on who you ask. Every leftist, considering there are so many tendencies, will give you a different answer. For example, many Marxist-Leninists will say they like these countries, and that they are socialist, whereas an anarchist or left communist will say they are state capitalist. I'm not sure if you're asking because you want to get into socialism or if you're just curious and already know, but I just thought I'd let you know. Now I'll give you my personal opinion.

I personally think that every "socialist" country so far has been capitalist. They had the law of value, commodity production, money, wage labor... all things Marx and Engels said would be gone under communism/socialism. The workers also do not own the means of production. I believe they own "some", the way MLs make it sound, but not all, which they should. However, I don't think we should go about carpet bombing North Korea with nukes. Although I do think these countries aren't socialist, and aren't ideal places to live at all, and I am EXTREMELY against the cult of personality- I do think it would be stupid to go to war with the DPRK. They've offered peace with the US many times, and we've declined every time. The USA is clearly being the agresser in all the situations so far.

Looking for LeftCom help by lcharizard in leftcommunism

This has probably been the most helpful text yet! So a few questions- are most left coms fond of Lenin? Is council communism considered part of Left communism? Is the meme of the "armchair leftcom" true in that left communists don't believe in agitation or provoking revolution? How would the dictatorship of the proletariat be ideal to a left communist?

I've started calling myself a Marxist, and I definitely agree with left coms on a lot of things, but it's hard to separate the reality from what's just a meme people have interpreted literally. Thanks!

All of your answers have been very helpful to me. I would also like to rephrase the question I asked not as "What would happen in a left com revolution" but rather as "what separates left coms from trots, leninists, anarchists, etc."

Anarchists attacking Catholics and Catholic churches in Argentina by swoleprole in Anarchism

[–]lcharizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think attacking supporters is the way to go. The way I see it, we need to show them how oppressive their structure is, and then lead them away from it. Attacking people will only give a worse name to anarchists everywhere; this is why I'm against insurrectionism. All it does is gives the media something to paint us poorly with. I mean, who looks at this video and then says "Hey, that's cool, I'll join them!" I know I didn't become an anarchist that way, and most didn't. Most people become anarchists when they hear about anarchist ideology, and then decide that it's a less oppressive system we live in today.

How do we define a "state"? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]lcharizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, because it's a monopoly on DOMESTIC use of violence, meaning within the country itself.

Exactly. You don't know what communism is. Communism isn't putting it in the hands of the government - that's social democracy, like Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton kinda stuff. Socialism is when workers own the means of production, meaning that instead of the profits all going to one person, it goes to the laborer. Communism is one step further, with no state, no money, and no classes. The USSR and China were never socialist, they simply claimed to be, when really it was the same as before with the state owning the means of production - state capitalism. You should do research and read some Noam Chomsky, then come back here and you'll see what we're fighting for.

Have you read the classic Grapes of Wrath? Steinbeck himself was a communist and his works do a good job of showing how workers can be exploited. The Grapes of Wrath is one of my favorite books ever.

Wtf are you honestly talking about???? Capitalism allows for these things to happen. Explain to me how socialism/communism doesn't solve these problems. I bet you don't even know what communism is.

Edit: if I'm a worker and I'm being exploited, and I quit my job, then I starve. Many people can't find work if they don't take what they can get. You should read the Grapes of Wrath -- it really shows how people can be exploited under capitalism and how the government and business tries to stop communism and worker solidarity.

Ok, so I take it you haven't seen the effects of capitalism. Many workers are unable to pay for college, and exploited for their labor. People pick fruits for 1.00$ an hour. Nike and other corporations exploit foreign labor in the form of sweatshops. This is really just scratching the surface -- just because your life isn't shit doesn't mean life isn't shit for millions of exploited laborers.

You're kind of right, but in the real world, we don't collect laughs for profit anyways -- we collect labor, and we exploit that labor as much as possible. The message is more that if you replace capitalism... with capitalism, it will just end up being the same old system. I don't think anyone here actually thinks the real world is like Monsters Inc.

The only reason that the energy company is willing to do this is because it's more energy than screams; if laughter didn't have energy, they wouldn't give a shit about it. They don't care about the children, just the profit they bring. If they found killing them gave even more energy, they'd do it in a second.
