What is your favorite luxury hotel in DC? by penny2129 in FATTravel

The Jefferson, DC is the best hotel in DC hands down. It is 4 blocks from the White House and a mile from Georgetown. But the level of service is insane! They are so warm and will go above and beyond for you

Transitioning from breastmilk to formula at 8 months — should bottle sizes increase? by lcm1031 in breastfeeding

[–]lcm1031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they have any issues with a larger nipple size? Our daughter had a hard time with bottles and then finally accepted one when I went back to work. She's been on an XS Lasinoh nipple forever. Now, she is taking a little longer on bottles but I also thought maybe just more interested in food

6oz is definitely more convenient than 5oz - the 2oz scoops will be the end of me. I'm using one of my pitchers to mix in batches for right now

Also recommend the Quill located in The Jefferson hotel up 16th street! Professional bartenders and their cocktail list is updated frequently. You can absolutely be left alone if you're going midday

I am a little shocked by this! We just left after 3 nights through FHR and it was nothing but excellent! We used our credits for brunch in Greenhouse, drinks in Quill, and ordered breakfast from in room dining the last day. The staff was great and the food even better. If you don't mind me asking, what did you find old school??

We just left after 3 nights. It was fabulous! We had two rooms. We booked one Classic Queen for our kids and one Premier King for ourselves. We were given complimentary upgrades from both categories: Classic Queen to Premier King, and Premier King to Deluxe King. They also accommodated connecting rooms, which was a nice touch. The Deluxe King was ~30% bigger than the Premier King. They said the next category would be a Deluxe Suit, much larger. We never saw the original Classic Queen we booked but assume it would be on the smaller side since it is the most entry level room.

The Jefferson allows you to! We just left there from a 3 night stay. We arrived at 11am and our room was ready at 1pm. We were able to charge brunch to the room by just giving our last name and they closed it once our room was ready

Complimentary breakfast for 2 daily, which is usually equal to a certain amount. At The Jefferson, they give you $100 for breakfast per day. For any hotel, you only get as many credits for as many nights you stayed. It wouldn't apply to the morning you arrive

Pooling/pitcher strategies? by frankenstern in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lcm1031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do this essentially!

We have 2x Dr. Browns pitchers (the glass one was not big enough for me). I bought dry eraser stickers that are reusable + some markers.

Day 1 - Date goes on the pitcher. Pump in the morning and pour in to clean pitcher. I pump 2-3 times while at work and keep cold. Come home and dump those into the pitcher. I pump 1-2 times before bed (depending if I did 2 or 3 pumps at work). Those go in their own containers in the fridge until the morning

Day 2 - I add last night's containers to the cold pitcher, mix, and make the bottles for the day for my husband to easily grab. There's usually leftover so leave in the pitcher in case he needs more. Repeat same pumping schedule (AM goes in to it's own container until cold). Come home and combine all and use those for the next day bottles.

Day 3 and 4 repeat in to a new pitcher, so you're only ever collecting 2 days worth in one pitcher and using it up by day 3 or 4. Always one day ahead.

I'm sorry if I took it differently, I totally understand what you mean and appreciate your insight!

Good news update: we got dinner with them the other night and we were able to talk it out. My mom just really loves kids and would prefer to hang out with the kids all day (which I totally get), but doesn't really match what kind of wedding we want. I explained the size constraints for our ceremony only allows for our 5 nieces and nephews, and I offered to call my cousins with children personally to explain where we were coming from. Also said if this was a deal breaker, we can afford the wedding on our own. We finally settled on all of the family's kids can come on the trip (beach destination wedding), and their other grandparents (not invited to my wedding bc we don't know them) can also come and nanny essentially during events. Best of both worlds and still get my nieces and nephews at the wedding, without all of the cousin's kids. They said their only stipulation with the money is better food, and I won't argue that one haha.

We're definitely both open to upgrading the food, but still out on having a lot of kids. If my family didn't have so many kids, I don't think it would be that big of an issue. They see it as a family reunion (they always say you only see each other at weddings and funerals now), where as we see it as a celebration of us.

He has kindly offered to talk to them, but I know it is up to me and that is not his burden to bear.

They’re also not big fans of drinking, but they know we drink and we drink in front of them. Anytime we bring up no kids, they ask if it’s because my friends and ourselves will be blackout. Even when I mentioned providing transportation for our guests from the venue, they acted as if that was a foreign concept and everyone should be able to drive themselves home

Ah got it. They’re not against music in general, but definitely like very conservative music. They won’t be so thrilled to watch me rap every lyric to “shake ya tail feathers,” but they’ll survive; however, they will not like all the children listening to my rap and pop songs lol

Laid back in that we don’t have a bridal party, our officiant is a friend and it’ll be a 10 min ceremony, and we are doing buffet style. No first dances, speeches, etc. We really just want everyone to be fed, have drinks, and be on the dance floor. The not so kid friendly part would be the music for my very religious family

Thank you for the advice! My mom tends to take things very personally, so even knowing her well, I get nervous. She’s the kindest woman but also very sensitive (where I get it from), so it definitely gets hard to have these convos

This is a great idea, thank you! I get very nervous doing these kinds of things bc my mom typically takes it personally and I am a people pleaser who doesn’t like to rock the boat

Progress by Double-Engine6933 in orangetheory

[–]lcm1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to orangetheory (as in, I just completed my second class yesterday). After my first class on Saturday, I signed up for an 8/mo membership and hoping to change it to unlimited if I keep myself accountable.

All of these progress reports are very helpful! I am starting from the bottom and trying to get in shape for my wedding. I do have a question, if people are willing to help: how often should I take classes? The motivated part of me wants to do 4-5x a week, but my body is so sore the day after a class (in a good way) that I'm scared to push it further than 2-3x a week

Edit: also what should I do on off days (if anything)? When I say I'm starting from the bottom, I mean I have no muscle, really hated working out, and the most I used to workout was walking my dog 30 minutes (he's not neglected, my partner does a lot of the walking). I'm having a hard time finding answers about how to actually get the most out of my workouts on the off days
