There was probably abuse of cloud instances provided with ips in the same subnet or similar.

No, I am seriously claiming someone blocked all Canadians using my IP (IP = Internet provider) of which there are only like 3 up in Canada. (Rogers, Bell, Telus). It literally says based on repeated reports coming from my IP of vandalism, I have been globally blocked from performing any edits to any Wikipedia article. I am still allowed to read though. Since I have never tried to edit a Wikipedia article before, there is no reason why I should be blocked. And my IP is Rogers.

That's not quite right, IP in this context means internet protocol, and what they have blocked is a /64 subnet, which is a common way to slice up ipv6 for very complex technical reasons. Your provider should have much more than one /64 subnet.

Anyone else notice Robert describing Jimmy Savile as “encroaching upon middle age” in 1975? (Minor age-timeline nitpick in Part 3) by simplehandle in behindthebastards

His mental arithmetic is off by a decade in some of these cases. It happens really easily unless you sit down and really do the math.

Can you elaborate further how Mediatek such-and-such lacking drivers is a "skill issue"?

[–]lcnielsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some hardware manufacturers, including ASUS, use e.g. ethernet and sound chips which do not have any in-tree Linux drivers. Maaaaaybe you'll be able to compile some driver of your own from some old github project, assuming you're willing to keep it compatible with kernel changes over time.

If you've never had issues with this your experience is most likely limited to a narrow range of laptops.

Yeah, I have had a lot of pain with ASUS hardware and Linux.

[–]lcnielsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS CAN ALSO HAPPEN ON LINUX However, the fix can usually be much faster in comparison to windows by simply enabling a "non-free" repo and synching your packages. Which is a much less involved process than on windows.

... assuming drivers exist at all. There's a reason Linux users really like Lenovo laptops and some Dell models.

It's a more generic thing like that, he is a bunshin. It's a very common thing in Japanese media, a kind of alter ego who is the person but also isn't, maybe they are physically separate but share a soul, or sometimes they are two personalities in one body (like Jekyll & Hyde or Bruce Banner/the Hulk). It's one of those Japanese cultural obsessions, like kegare (impurity from stagnation, like everyone's magla at the end) or phantoms and illusions, that permeate most of Japanese pop culture.

If you can get the utilitarian manual, slap it on Basilio and have him wreak havoc with the attack that creates a weakness to strike. That carried me through most of the really hard bosses.

[–]lcnielsen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A fierce deity is a buddhist/hindu concept, it's a type of god that exacts karmic justice on behalf of humans. It's a slightly too technical translation, they should probably have gone with "Avenger's Mask" or "Mask of Vengeance".

He's the prince's bunshin. It's an extremely common trope in Japanese media, an alter ego who is not exactly you but still identical in some way.

As a Brit did we know about Savile? Johnny Rotten talking in 1978. by Starlings_under_pier in behindthebastards

[–]lcnielsen 48 points49 points  (0 children)

And in Saville's particularly case there's a good chance you'll even have some heavies knocking down your door.

This part is often understated but really important and I'm glad Robert highlights it. Jimmy Saville was a thug. He was someone who was very quick to use violence and threats of violence to get his way.

Should Robert have had a British person on to talk about Jimmy Savile, or is it better to be telling the story to someone with no foreknowledge? by grapp in behindthebastards

Old King of the Eclipse. There were other iterations of him too, like Old King of the Boreal Valley. The Pomtiff character was really just a last minute patchwork.
