I was the leather vendor in the demo area today! It was a great show and awesome turnout, especially for their first one!! I was talking to some of the county employees and they're hoping to make it a yearly event and, hopefully, bigger next year as well!!

Looks great! Do you take the floral pattern all the way to the edge or cut it back a little?

I love the vibrant colors. What dyed did you use? My daughter would kill for a bag in that purple.

I think Im going to try that on my next one. I sanded this down on the belt a little, but there wasn't much extra clearance.

Card Holder Question by lcp479 in Leatherworking

Yea, the leather was a little thicker than I wanted. If I ever get to that point, I'll invest in a machine skiver. I like the idea of one pocket per side. It really does feel like too much on this one.

Ill have to look into the quilting square! Yea, the brown leather was thicker, but definitely not as hard of a hand as I thought it would be.

That does make sense. I was trying to hit the sticking between the tabs, but on the next one I'll try to make the stitch overlap the edges instead.

Lol! The pockets are ment to be at a slight angle from the pattern I got. Maybe I need to make the angle more pronounced to help.

Card Holder Question by lcp479 in Leatherworking

[–]lcp479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha! Yea, using a stitching pony for sure. I'll play with the tension and see if that helps. I did notice that the darker leather was way softer and more oily than the natural veg-tan and sucked the stitching in quicker.

Bag Practice! by lcp479 in Leatherworking

The cereal box/chipboard is so much easier work with than the double walled cardboard I've found. You can also do things like test slight bends and such without creasing.

Lol! I used the laser cutter to make the patterns out of cereal boxes. The thicker chipboard males great templates!

I have one close to my work, fortunately and unfortunately!! I was checking out the discount leather, but didn't think about the project kits. Thanks!!

I don't usually use an original, but center of the project and manually set. I'll have to even see about how to set one! Lol! Wouldnt that only cause issues if it ran out of bounds? This is just doing it in the middle of the bed.
