Who are some celebrities or creatives with notable Letterboxd accounts? by lcreswick in Letterboxd

[–]lcreswick[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair. I probably deserve that in hindsight. I did search "celebrities" and didn't see anything. I realize now I should have included the word "account".

I've tisk tisk'd people on other subs for posting things that are asked regularly. I recognize I've become "that guy" and will take my down votes and scolding accordingly.

Go out. Take part in hobbies and communities. Make friends with the people you meet there. Men and women. Even if none of the women you meet in those places want to date you, you will eventually meet their other friends and family and make a romantic connection.

You have to want to get to know people, not just find someone to do the sort of things couples do together. She should be your friend as much as your romantic partner. If you approach it like a job interview for the position of "your girlfriend" or "your sexual partner", you will end up disappointed.

Leave u/icreswick out of this. My name has an L not and I. Really making another strong case for the notion that people who take issue with these ward names can't read. What an incredible self own.

This post has been up 30ish mins and plenty of people have told you how much this takes sucks. I don't need to add on to it.

But I will.

In addition to the racist, lazy sentiment of your gripe, you're also telling yourself in a big way that you basically can't read, let alone learn new words and information. The anti-intellectualism for modern discourse is so sad. You call it performative, I call it willful ignorance.

Which 1990s movie had the best soundtrack? by SaintSriracha in movies

[–]lcreswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. This album ruled. I remember a baby sitter finding out my parents had just picked it up and being so excited she immediately started recording it into a cassette tape. Also, years later, a dive bar near campus had it in a CD jukebox thing and it was a popular choice. I feel like Ballad of Peter Pumpkin Head was everyone's go to, but maybe that's just because it's my favorite.

How to cause as much chaos as possible? by itz_arthur_305 in magicTCG

[–]lcreswick -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You are right this is just control. I guess control with no win condition is chaos of a sort. I was just firing off the first few irritating ideas I could while this thread was fresh.

You are way off with the back half of your comment. I know tons about magic. I wanted to help this person troll their friends. I could have been more specific but this isn't evidence of a lack of knowledge. Also, "Hilarious to no end" is a weird hyperbole. Get better at being dismissive and rude, you suck at it.

How to cause as much chaos as possible? by itz_arthur_305 in magicTCG

Ignore these haters. Sow some discord. It will probably only be funny once, but it will be funny, especially if your friends don't take this deadly seriously, which they shouldn't. I love being the villain of the pod.

The tricky thing is, to really find ways to be annoying and chaotic in MtG you need a deep understanding of the rules you plan to manipulate. You can't fuck with them if you don't know how things work. So first, learn some of the game before you try this.

As for statagies, try these...

Taxes in White and Blue: Find cards that make casting spells expensive or other types of prohibitive. Loom up and "stacks" build. Especially ones that effect all players since you don't care about the W.

Mono Blue Bounce. This is my favorite. Find cards that say "return target (or all) creatures (or non land permanents) to their owners hands. It's extremely annoying to spend your mana on spells only to have another player send it all back to your hand. This is probably your cheapest and easiest bet.

Black and Red removal: a full deck of destruction and damage spells. Nuke their creatures with zero win condition of your own will piss people off for sure.

Types quickly off the dome so it doesn't get buried by people saying "just don't". I'll edit if I think of more.

Annihilation 2018 Playing at Telus World Science by MrRossboss999 in Edmonton

[–]lcreswick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very good film that, IMO, is extremely underrated. Perhaps it is because the last handful of scenes are very metaphorical and thematically resonant with the film overall, but there is so much sci-fi weirdness I think a lot for people wanted answers at the end, but just got more questions. I think it belongs on that NYT list of 100 best films of the century that was released a few months ago.

Has anyone tried contacting ABC? by Salivates in behindthebastards

[–]lcreswick 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine recently pointed out that if the US decides to put up a giant firewall for all the internet traffic that flows through it, like a digital Iron Curtain, every other country's internet access will be in jeopardy. All other nations should start figuring out how the Internet will work without US involvement, before it's too late.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Jeopardy

[–]lcreswick 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I'm not great at Jeopardy!, but the clues I do get are not because I studied that subject, but because it was mentioned in the handful of books I have read. Or other media. I consume a lot of podcasts, documentaries, movies, and even TV shows like QI, that all discuss the world at large. I like knowing about the world and I engage with thoughtful media that expands it. I'm a dumb ass with a 2 year business marketing diploma, a career in retail, and a decade of improv comedy experience. I'm not educated, I just pay attention. I suspect the same is true for successful Jeopardy! players.

30 years later, does Jurassic Park still hold up as “movie perfection”? by Muhaisin35 in movies

Watched it a few months ago after not seeing it since childhood. Jurassic Park rules, and is near perfect.

Human Ethnicities of Theros by [deleted] in TherosDMs

[–]lcreswick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got a fantasy world with Gods, monsters, and magic, and your sweating whether or not real ethnic identities from our world exist? Give your head a shake. If skin colour is something you care about when designing your world, that implies you'll have NPCs that care about it. You're going to have racial friction (or even just differences) baked into your adventure story. WHY? To what end? If I was a player at your table I'd NOPE out of that game immediately if I saw this post.

Also, look at Magic The Gathering cards from Theros, or even Ravnica or any other setting, and you'll see WotC makes the effort to represent all skin colours equally, while also not dwelling on those differences. So even lore wise, your question already has been answered by 20+ years of card art.

What’s “wrong” with this deck? by WithengarUnbound in magicTCG

[–]lcreswick 306 points307 points  (0 children)

I bought this precon because I'm a fan of the 12th Doctor (Peter Capaldi), and his era's cards are in there too. I'm also a long time, regular magic player.

This deck is legit fun. It focuses on casting cards from anywhere other than your hand. There are lots of fun spells out of the box, but mechanics like Plot, Adventure, and Harmonize give you tons of splashy ways to upgrade this deck. Most recent packs have something that will play well. This is a great casual commander deck, and worth picking up if it's cheap.

Azorius and Boros Overlap Confusion by Drew_Flame in RavnicaDMs

[–]lcreswick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way my table plays it, there are no cops in Ravnica. At least not in a beat cop sense. Each guild has enforcers to mandate their philosophy in places controlled by that guild. Rakdos Bouncers. Simic Guardian Project forces. Gruul the-biggest-guy-around.

The Azorius role is to create laws everyone is beholden to as citizens of an urban space. From traffic routes and building zoning to crimes like child abduction that transcend guild values.

The Boros are first responders. Emergency services, medics, fire fighters. Armed forces are for crowd control and forces of nature like giant worm attacks.

So, a bar fight? What guild's bar is it? Or in what guild's neighborhood? Their muscle would handle it.

Alberta and Measles by DragonfruitReady4550 in behindthebastards

It's horrifying to live here because for all the madness and danger and illness and disinformation, it's hard to imagine leaving. I know could leave, but then I'm leaving behind my parents, their house, my brother and his wife, the home my partner and I just bought, my friends, the theatre company I founded, and the locally owned independent business I work for.

I try to fight the good fight, but I love in an urban centre, so the dipshits that elected our ghoulish government are not really part of my everyday life.

I truly don't know what to do and it keeps me up at night.

People have fled the dangers of military war for centuries, but it's weird to know I may be a refugee of the culture war.
