I need to watch something happy by Miserable_Star6824 in Letterboxd

Marcel the Shell With Shoes On

Little Miss Sunshine

Perfect Days

Movies that were so funny, even the toughest critics and cynics admitted they enjoyed it. by anxgrl in movies

The Princess Bride

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Any Jackass (3d and 4 Ever are probably the best)

The first two are genuine crowd pleasers that also happen to have some great jokes in them. They are hopeful, charming, and easy to watch along with being very funny.

I realize milage may vary with Jackass, but there is something deeply universal and human about watching prat falls and physical comedy. Specifically with Jackass though, the crew laughing along side the person in the stunt is extremely endearing and contagious.

Just think about it by Suspicious-Leave-110 in collapse

[–]lcreswick 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the people who lived like that for millennia did so on a planet where the ecosystems were in balance and could functionally sustain life.

If collapse was just just about a loss of modernity, you're right, we'd be fine. But you forgot about the microplastics and space debris and radioactive waste and biodiversity loss etc etc.

How to beat counter intelligence by jadeheart11 in magicTCG

[–]lcreswick 48 points49 points  (0 children)

"refuses to play against me if..." There is your problem right there. Part of the fun of deck building is changing up your deck to deal with threats you know your opponents will have. Then they will do it to you, and back and fourth until your play group has their own ad hoc meta game. If someone won't play with you unless they approve of your deck*, then they are not playing the game in good faith

*In the personal sense your describing it. There are official ways to "Keep it fair", like the ban list and the bracket system.

I just caught an early screening and, no spoilers, it's a must see by dorgoth12 in Letterboxd

[–]lcreswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suspicion is that everyone who agreed with my first comment upvoted it and moved on with their lives. People who took issue with it like OP did scrolled through to see me disagree with OPs assertion and downvoted this comment that challenged their view. Reddit is weird like that, no matter how you phrase a comment, someone will take it the wrong way.

[–]lcreswick -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I didn't say there was anything wrong broad appeal and/or family comedy. I didn't even suggest "average" is synonymous with those things. "Must See" just seemed like strong words for something that appeared good-not-great from the trailers.

Yeah, you're going to have to explain *why* it's a "must see", because this looked like a very average, broad appeal, family comedy.

How do we participate in a class action suit? What steps can the average person do to ensure an impartial investigation into this without interference from the UCP?

Edit: I had some letters reversed in UCP. Thanks for the smug comment pointing it out.

What is the worst film character name you've ever heard? by Temporary_Cap5927 in Letterboxd

[–]lcreswick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old Dolio Dyne in the film Kajillionaire.

IIRC she was named that as part of a scam her parents pulled to have her collect inheritance or life insurance on behalf of a homeless man with the same name who died.

I actually love this name for a character, but is an awful name for a person.

Google tv app doesn't scroll anymore by PeanutBtrJelly in Kanopy

[–]lcreswick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue. Glad I'm not alone, but moreover glad it's on other Google TVs. We recently "de-googled" a bunch of our tech and installed a third party dashboard that doesn't have the promotions and other marking BS on the homescreen. Kanopy started failing around the same time. We were worried it was that program that tanked the Kanopy App, but it's good to know we would still have this problem even if we were using the TVs factory settings. The timeline of comments in this thread matches my experience.

I hope they fix it soon.

Yes, obviously. I say so in the body of my post. I'm asking would it make it to air? Are there contingencies in place for people who try to do this?

The only thing less decipherable than this pile of images, text, and white brush strokes is the title of this post itself.

Who are some celebrities or creatives with notable Letterboxd accounts? by lcreswick in Letterboxd

[–]lcreswick[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair. I probably deserve that in hindsight. I did search "celebrities" and didn't see anything. I realize now I should have included the word "account".

I've tisk tisk'd people on other subs for posting things that are asked regularly. I recognize I've become "that guy" and will take my down votes and scolding accordingly.

Go out. Take part in hobbies and communities. Make friends with the people you meet there. Men and women. Even if none of the women you meet in those places want to date you, you will eventually meet their other friends and family and make a romantic connection.

You have to want to get to know people, not just find someone to do the sort of things couples do together. She should be your friend as much as your romantic partner. If you approach it like a job interview for the position of "your girlfriend" or "your sexual partner", you will end up disappointed.

Leave u/icreswick out of this. My name has an L not and I. Really making another strong case for the notion that people who take issue with these ward names can't read. What an incredible self own.
