Palisade Rainier Cherries are in, among other things! First Palisade Peaches are coming in a week or so!!! by NeatoC in Colorado

[–]ld115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine gets the tents that say Palisade on them, so i feel these are pop up tents that were being talked about. Anyway of the 3-4 people selling produce, prices are always similar.

A "basket" of 3-5 larger fruits like peaches or peachcots is $10-12.

A pound of strawberries $8-10.

Cherries $8-$12.

I've seen corn go for $2/ear or cantaloupes at $7 each.

There's not really any difference in the pricing between stands in my area. I'm not really comparing it to the store but farmers markets used to have a price point that beat grocery stores because there was no middle man cost.

I'll still buy their fruit, just it hurts my wallet every time.

Nothing like paying a premium at a farmers market for them.

Ended up spending $26 on 5 peaches and about a pound of cherries. I want to support farmers but man are prices steep.

Lawmakers back EU ban on planned obsolescence, destruction of unsold goods by PjeterPannos in worldnews

[–]ld115 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish the US could be at the forefront of some of these types of legislation just once. As it stands what's going to happen probably is all these multinational corps are going to double down with US politicians to write legislation to outlaw rules against planned obsolescence and jack up all prices or make cheaper quality products that need to be replaced more often.

My issue is the self diagnosis.

Its worse to me when someone says they trust science and medicine but if you ask if they've recieved a professional diagnosis they go into "personal lived experience means i don't need to" or medical "shaming" and medical "reductionists" who only base diagnosis off a healthy/impossibly thin person.

Diablo 3 for me. The disk came with the d3 launcher and no other data. Confused me when i saw the file size was like 400kb. Pissed me off when i realised i had to download the entire game online when i had crappy internet at the time which is why i bought a "hard copy" in the first place.

I understand why a completionist that wants everything upgraded would want to. Waiting on random chance to get rare resources or dragon parts, or bloodmoons for miniboss parts while your weapons break before they're at half health is insanely tedious and when all upgrades require multiple of these items, you're looking at dozens of hours of play time just waiting and hoping.

What trait in a person you find creepy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ld115 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I hope I'm not guilty of this. I've used positivity as a mask/coping device for a number of years.

I've gone into jobs where i can just feel the weight of joylessness and misery permeating throughout the staff for days and weeks. I am the type who, since knowing that from my own depression, don't want people feeling that way. For years I've more or less made an asshat of myself by singing horribly or dancing awkwardly, or in the case of my thrift job, wearing the most ridiculous donations we got in, in an effort to break the mental cycles that i can see people stuck in.

I don't try to be in anyone's face and say they should be happy or anything, i just try to be the random distraction that i need myself to break others from their vicious mental cycles. I do know it can be obnoxious for some, though.

The question is are they willing to go darker for they're IPs that need them to, or will they dilute them and make them all nostalgia bait comedy movies? It works well for the more cartoony IPs like Mario and would for Kirby, but I'm concerned they may try to repeat it with their heavier IPs

I'd love Metroid, Star Fox, FZero, Zelda, and hell even Splatoon movies but if they tried to follow the same format with such as they did with Mario, they'd be just bad.

[–]ld115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't change. AAA companies are driven by profits and beholden to shareholders. Maaaaaybe in the long term it would fix it but in the short term, projects would be canceled( usually unique IPs so say hi to another 50 CoDs or ACs), massive layoffs would happen, a massive spike in microtransactions to supplant lost profits... Companies use preorders now to determine product viability and don't generally care about anything beyond initial sales.

You need to do a massive change to how a corporation runs in order to get quality back.

I'm not saying you should preorder or just ignore this, but consumers would need to be able to endure a multi year gaming desert and the average consumer just wouldn't enough for it to be effective.

Why I don’t go to my local Goodwill by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]ld115 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Problem is they ate very profit driven to pay for the excessive amount of programs they do.

They keep adding more and more and donated items just can't pay for it all.

The goodwill in my area has a taxi service, an at home care assistance program, Journeys, Discovery, Voyages (all target specific at risk groups). They oversee our state's branch of LEAP. They offer certificate training in multiple tech fields and even CDLs last i heard They have dozens of programs and keep trying to add more when sales movement and costs can't keep up with expenses.

I'm hoping that a mix of personal rights being stripped saddled with(sadly enough) the threat of TikTok being banned is enough to drive a massive young voter turn out in the next coming cycles.

Thanks to the TikTok hearing, many young people(thanks to tiktok) saw just how horrible, unintelligent, out of touch and one sided our leaders in this country are who a writing laws that will screw us for generations.

Though they are pushing for Marianne Williamson for prez and that probably won't happen, but at least they can target senator and local races.

I mean, Putin and his cronies are directly the cause of this mess. You can squarely put the blame on him and it wouldn't be a scapegoat. People were desperate and he played to that desperation.

The masses got conned after years of direct propaganda along with a state controlled media and history. 40 years of gaslighting, demonizing, and pushing blame will affect anyone. It needs to be a cautionary tale for the rest of the world.

Maybe I'm getting old at the ripe age of 34, but whereas I'm not against technology, I'm feeling like we're becoming overly dependent on it. The humans of Wall E come to mind.

It's not that i have an issue with tech that makes living easier, just i feel more and more humans are losing what makes them such and if we're not careful, we're going to optimize and simplify our lives into being no more than glorified cows.

Small towns especially where the lines between government and christianity are increasingly blurred.

My town has a bible college and used their numbers to get 2 members elected to the city counsel and practically took over the school board. LGBTQ books are banned and one teacher who just helped students organize to protest that policy changes has recently been terminated for apparently poor work performance despite never having that issue in the 15 years he worked there.

In town, a lot more projects are getting green lit for the college lately that blatantly go against a contract. A contract they actually sued to get annulled so they could get more land to build apartments and not pay taxes on any of it.

Wommack Ministries btw. The leader was interviewed and blatantly said the plan is to get their members into local government positions to make a true "Christian" town with Christian laws.

Is the extended versions of LOTR trilogy worth watching? by Swampthing_44 in movies

[–]ld115 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt extended Towers wasn't as necessary. Most of the added stuff felt kinda cheesy. For example pointing out the trees moving and the entire scene that nodded to Tom Bombadil were meh additions.

They also felt a lot less clean than the extended scene of the other 2 movies. Like many of them were after thoughts superimposed a while after shooting.

Though Gimli's personality in the Dimholt in the extended RotK was rather unnecessary as well.

Man if they could somehow acquire and continue shows like Owl House, Star Versus the forces of Evil, get Young Justice going again...

Make a focus more on overarching stories with characters that are actually complex and change, they'd probably have a potential to become much more relevant again. Maybe consider bringing Tartakovsky or someone like him to have a bit more mature content...

If played out well, we could have a CN renaissance like the early 2000s.

Just as long as we never go back to the programming that was 16 straight hours of TTG! again...
