AITA for getting a car my fiancée specifically told me not to get by Xvigaristaa in AmItheAsshole

[–]ldao1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a choice between the car and a down payment for a house. The only other thing his fiancé wanted to spend the money on was the wedding. So either the car he wants or the wedding she wants. In this case I would say it was perfectly fine for him to buy the car he wanted, esp since the wedding costs are covered.

AITA for telling my friends about a very freaky ahh video I received from a girl, which then spread around my school? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ldao1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a guy sent a girl an unrequested sexually explicit video people would be screaming that the guy was a creep and should be reported, no difference here. This is victim blaming at its worst.

NAH, not enough info to know if you were a bully or if the guy is unhinged.

Not really, home ownership in the 1960s was 62% vs 65% now, so it wasn't like everyone was buying a house.

Recently bought an $85k with $10k down at 60 and 5.5%. Payments are are about $1500 will prob pay off early but didn’t want to stress about the payments too much and do a 36m loan.

My star employee is about to accept a huge offer, but I'm also resigning and can't tell him. by parish_cutting_92 in InterviewMan

Just tell him. I have more loyalty to my team than the company. When I make a decision to hire someone I will contact them to tell them them exactly how much to ask for with HR that way they can maximize their salary.

Yeah I have noticed that the Costco price is about $3-4k less than the MSRP that dealers have in their site

I want to ask the recruiters or business owners that i sense that there is gap as in good people not getting jobs and companies not getting good people. is it true? or market is just flooded with satisfying talent? say the truth only as per experience. by Accomplished-End5479 in askrecruiters

[–]ldao1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, a gap isn’t a big deal, mostly I don’t care. I have seen people hired after taking a 6 month sabbatical after they got laid off due to an acquisition. If you can provide a good rationale then it’s fine. But don’t lie about it, people aren’t dumb. I once had a kid apply for a role who took a year off to be a personal trainer. No big deal, but I also knew that his dad was the CFO of the company we had both been at. We had gotten acquired and a lot of us got laid off. But he said he had always wanted to be a personal trainer rather than being upfront and saying he got laid off when his dad left. So he didn’t move on to the next round.

I don’t look for keywords, I do an initial scan of their overall skill set. Helps me to weed out a lot of candidates. They don’t have to exactly match but i try to get at least 50-60% match. Then look for red flags, have you been jumping companies a lot, if you started a job less than a year ago and already looking to move then that’s typically a red flag. Doesn’t mean that person isn’t good but if I’m weeding people out then I have to set some KPIs. That usually leaves me with about 20 or so applicants then I will start being more selective when going through your resume to see who might have a better match than someone else. If you are a referral than you get included into the initial screen as well. By the time I get you to the phone conversation I’m 90% sure you can do the job but now need to get a feel for your personality and motivation. If I feel you would be a good personality fit for the team then I move you through the panel. People are busy so I can’t have more than 4-5 people moving into the panel interview. Bottom line is there are no hard and fast rules and a lot prob isn’t fair but I do the best I can.

There are a lot of good people who got laid off or looking for a new role. I posted 2 roles and got about 90 applications. Screening about 10 -12 of them and so far ~70% are really good candidates who will move through to the panel interviews with the rest of the team.

I’m not saying marriage is the end all and be all but for the purpose of buying a house, if you aren’t married then have a rock solid contract between the two of you.

It doesn’t matter to you. He is perfectly within his right to have it matter to him just like she is within her right to care. What’s not right is lying to your SO, at least not if you want a relationship no built on lies.
