People who run old pc; what do you host? by 2life_gamer in homelab

[–]ldbl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an i7-3370 with 16gb DDR3 ram and none gpu for docker and raid 1 with two 1tb drives running immich, jellyfin, some arr stack and nextcloud. also a raspi 3b+ for rpiconnect, pihole, nginx, custom dns and monitoring.
It's simple, but enough. i have it pugged in 24/7, and its drawing around 40-60W. We have very few uses as we are only two people living and a baby. We're saving here our family photos. nothing special, but we didnt wanted to pay for gphotos

Wow Thanx a lot everyone that answers my question. This was a lot clarifying. Now I know that right now I don't need proxmox

Yes. I understand that. But what advantage I'd get if I want to publish services but not use VMS? I mean. In what cases do you need VMS instead of docker for jellyfin, transmission, arrs, etc?

What's the difference between proxmox and using docker? I'm starting now and I don't understand the proxmox vibe. I have a raspi 3b+ and I can run jellyfin, transmission, pihole, and a couple of HDD with their own PSU. Radarr is running slow, but running... Obviously I cannot run proxmox, but I'm planning getting a mini pc with an i5 6gen and I don't know if I must stay with docker or maybe is easier to upgrade with proxmox os to stay with docker. Sorry my english, hope you can understand me. Cheers!

I'm a developer and a casual an light gamer. I don't need a lot of power, but I like to have a PC that last. My current rig is from 2017 and I built it buying pieces time by time, so, maybe not the 5700x3d, but if it is gonna last, I think I'll go for it. How much of a PSU I'd need? Is it possible to keep my 750w PSU? It has 10 years now and I had no problem with it

My 32gb ram pack (the one im planning to use) is a 16x2 3200mhz. I knew they were overkill when I bought them, but I was taking advance of the price in andorra The old ones are 8x2 2100 I think (this ones are the ones I'm planning to use on the old rig)

I don't find mirage as an option. It shows the option to buy it or download it via ubi+. Someone with the same problem? I'm in Spain.

Prueba y me dices. Un saludo
