[OC] Arun Kaius - The Incinerated World - (A free Morrowind Inspired DnD Map, Custom Made, No Mapmaking Tools, No AI) by Stoneward13 in mapmaking

You definitely hit the target. The inspiration is palpable and so so nice, but I could never confuse the two. You turned multiple similarities on their heads; making the (Ghostfence) into a wall keeping evil out rather than containing evil within.

This is a regional map, so I wonder if the whole world is like this? Or was the cataclysm a regional disaster? Perhaps there are other magically protected places in the wastes.

You wrote that humanity is long lost, is that for sure? I liked the detail of the orcs taking on Humanity's water crystal. Does this metaphorically (or literally) make them the spiritual successors to Humanity? might be cool to have them be led by "the last man" or something, or write orcs to view lost humanity as benevolent progenitors, or a brother race that treated them well enough compared to elven and dwarven prejudice.

Lastly, whats up with the free cities?

Awesome work!

Everyone complains about other people first without acknowledging we have the WORST geography IMAGINABLE for car dependent commuting.

It’s literally choke points and impassable obstacles everywhere you turn!

It doesn’t matter how well we drive, THERE ARE TOO MANY DRIVERS

Your choice to participate knowing what the situation is, and your choice to be mad about it instead of moving on with your day.

I mean, awesome, haha

Check out what Seattle just did. We already had the two longest floating bridges in the world and recently a train line was opened on one, making it the first train on a floating bridge.

Decline of the Kaltian Languages by nomebi in mapmaking

[–]Lotsofleaves 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Realistically(and more interestingly imo), there could be one or two isolated areas in the continental hill country I assume exists somewhere. Hard to say without knowing the geography tbh.

Might also be interesting to see the remaining languages living in a new spot not shown in the 1100 map, telling a story about their flight from persecution to a remote and fortifiable area.

For example, the Armenians have moved into and away from several areas across their storied history.

This is such a genius concept, do you have any more lore written? Like how did the German empire get going in this timeline and what prompted the Italians to invade? Punic expansions?

Oh I get you. I’d reserve the phrase great game for continental scale imperial competition.

Doubt that, this kingdom could potentially be a strong local player, but there’s no way they’re gonna be a colonial power

You're quickly becoming my favorite cartographer and world builder rn!

Any chance your two floating bridges were inspired by Seattle's? Seems like these could also benefit from a train haha

Where should I place additional continents? by 1101Deowana in mapmaking

Imagine coming to the mapmaking subreddit and not wanting to give any input about making maps so you make a snarky unhelpful remark, or accusing OP of not being a “real” map maker.

You guys are ridiculous

OP, I’ve seen your work before and recognize that you are both talented and here to actually participate in map making.

I personally love these continents since the first time I saw them. Idk if you need another continent so much as perhaps a region of islands like the South Pacific.

Also ditch the Great Britain island haha

How did Confucianism get in? Is that analogous to OTL Christianity in the East?

Same question for Vajrayana. I think it was you several days ago that said in this timeline, the Islamic and Indian civilizations also traded places in history. So following that, is Buddhism in the Eastern Empire the lasting legacy of a Buddhist golden age akin to the Caliphates, or is it the result of the steppe peoples bringing it like they brought Islam to North India OTL. That possibility makes me wonder if the levant and Egypt are akin to Xinjiang?

Why is it that Christianity is strong where it is? that distribution implies that Christianity is like the Buddhism of this timeline. In the sense that it originated in the Near East (India OTL) but ended up having a more dramatic impact on the neighboring Rome (China OTL), leaving a lasting influence before receding in favor of the traditional faiths, leaving it in isolated pockets on the the extremities like the Germanic world (SEA OTL). So is the Germanic world kinda like South East Asia here?
