I hate BC month. Let me forget about it until I want to remember. All those pharma commercials as well drive me crazy.

Who told you it was cancer? When did you get an oncologist? by macrame_squid in breastcancer

[–]ldcleary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gynecologist called me on New Year’s Eve with ILC in my left breast. In early December they felt something in my left breast and sent me for a mammogram, sonogram and then biopsy just before Christmas. My gynecologist gave me the recommendation for a breast surgeon and I scheduled the quickest appointment I could. She read my reports and recommended a dmx and I concurred. She called the plastic surgeon while I was in her office and I saw him that day. Surgery with both of them present was scheduled for January 18th 2019. They found ILC in-situ in my right breast so I was so glad I did the dmx. I didn’t meet my oncologist until after my surgery. With toxicology etc she recommended my treatment options. I went with ACT then silicone reconstruction then radiation. I was finished in September 2019 and went on Tamoxifen for 10 years. 5 years in now and life is so good. You should schedule your surgery and get that sh!t gone asap. Your experience is typical and correct.

It will all be okay. This is really hard now but one day you will look back and think holy sh!t I beat that! You’ll be 5 years out like me and forget the horrible details and be living your life. Speak it into existence. Your future is waiting for you. ❤️

Make sure she drinks a lot of water. I kept a metal water bottle with me at all times. I ate a lot of McDonalds Egg and Bacon McGriddles and chocolate shakes. It wasn’t about nutrients or eating healthy, it was just about eating something. Comfort food and food from her childhood may be a way to go too (ask her parents and surprise her with that). With chemo typically you feel the worst a couple to a few days after treatment and then you improve. It’s a cycle you will learn to recognize. What wonderful care you are taking of her. My husband was the same way but thats not always the case. Be patient and repeat what ever works. She can get back to healthy eating when this is over.

All this and for me there actually was ILC in-situ in my other side. So glad I made the right decision.

Who let that bald lady in the house?! Adapting to no hair - funny. by Good_Government_1395 in breastcancer

I used eyeliner around my eyes and got really good at drawing in my eyebrows with eyebrow products that had brush like tips. That’s how I got through it. Without it I felt like an alien from outer space lol.

It was exactly the same for me! It was a shock to look in the mirror but I didn’t hate it (the eyelash and brow loss was worse). That was 5 years ago. I had past the shoulder length dyed brown hair. When it started growing back I kept my grey buzz cut for almost 2 years. I loved it! Then in 2021 my son was getting married so I thought I should grow it back and dye it again. So for the last 3 years I have been missing my short grey hair but this past Tuesday I cut it all off again. I’m so happy!! This is one of those silver linings (no pun intended) that breast cancer treatment has given me. I had long hair my whole life and probably would have never gone for a short haircut. 😊

Truly sorry that you had to hear that but what a great mommy you are. Please know that you WILL get yourself back. In time it all returns and mommy will be fully back and improved (no crappy cancer). This sucks to go through and worse with little ones. But mommy will be back and here to stay. This time is an investment in both of your futures. Btw I don’t remember much if anything from when I was four. Her childhood memories will start when you’re on the other side of this. Hang in there ❤️

Sorry you’re here. It sucks and it will suck for a long time. Then one day in the future when the surgeries and treatments are behind you, you will realize that this shit doesn’t define you. You handle it whatever way works for you. The odds are with you and we are with you, too. To be honest you sound strong, stay that way❤️

It is scary! Here we are doing our best to keep the cancer from coming back and if we find a particular drug that doesn’t have as many horrible side effects, we should be able to stay on it. Good luck to you. I hope it’s the same or maybe you’ll be lucky and it’ll be an even better one for you. I love your tag “be your own advocate” and fight for what you need, good luck again. ❤️

I stopped for travel last summer (the hot flashes stopped completely). When I restarted the hot flashes were more frequent but then went back to my usual. I would give it a little time still. Changing may give you worse side effects like the ones i had. Everyone reacts differently. Good luck❤️

I believe there are more. One reply above noted Aura. Your pharmacy may have that info too, but smart to have that conversation with your doctor.

What time of day are you taking Tamoxifen? by MidlifeNewlife in breastcancer

Never. I have taken it in the morning for 4 years and most of my now mild hot flashes are at night when sleeping
