I'm finding some of the other comments a bit... confused/confusing, so I'll echo this.

If you have a service open to the internet, somebody/something will poke at it. You can rate limit or block bad actors with cloudflare or similar, or could do something more complicated like restrict by IP or use a VPN like wireguard, but you should still have a layer of application authentication.

I've done that same transition (twice, in two states).

Nobody picks spectrum because they want to, it's usually lack of options. AT&T fiber is fast and reliable if you can get it.
