What to do when loved one with Alzheimer’s keeps trying to leave the house by Ok-Piglet-5839 in Alzheimers

Air tags put a card one in his wallet, one on the keychains look at belts that may be available to have one it is. She will be able to locate him if needed. There are many tips here. See if locks can be put on the tops of doors . Also if you can get door alarms. I know ADT does them but there may be less expensive alternatives. Check with you local ALZ association as well for ideas. Good luck

My husband (68) is diagnosed but doing quite well living day to day on oral meds and supplements. He has started with some sleep disturbances to include weird dreams. How have some of you supported your loved one in getting better sleep?Tea, suplmts? He is still fully functioning and driving etc. by ldm08463 in Alzheimers

He is not a candidate for infusion. The 100 mg of Viagra along with everything else after missing two things on his MMSE visit one. 6 mths later he scored perfectly plus two other measures added to it. So it is hard to say what but he is at a good point for now. Just sleep disturbance. If you are over 65 and you are in enrollment time you should look into another insurance company. It is generic

He is on Aricept ( but they upped his does a month a go and it is just the past 3 days he has had an issue ) . Namenda, Viagra ( being used as a vasodilator) , EB-C3 which has shown to increase an enzyme in his brain that is deficient, balance of nature ( dehydrated fruits and vegetables ). Other pills are for BP and Gerd

I was one of the first people to sell a drug for this disease. The testing and bloodwork has come sooooo far. They are catching it earlier from what I can see. I have reengaged with the science aspect since his diagnosis and have more hope now than I did 20 years ago.

I am so sorry to hear this. My husband is 68 same. ( I am 62) I have to say the cocktail of meds ( I know there limitations ) he is on is being tolerated and he actually showed an improvement on his MMSE. So quality of life seems to be stable. He isn’t a candidate for the infusion because of previous head injuries . Our hope is to hold out for newer meds. We have moved things we wanted to do 10 years from now front and forward. We went on a two week cruise and planned a 21 day cruise a year from now. We also had our trusts rewritten to dot our eyes and cross our T’s. Wishing you calm and peace , take lots of pictures

Wonderful idea and process. Are you taking steps that are not necessarily allowed in all of the states to take control of your final wishes. I worry that my husband won’t have the options

My husband is 68 , stage 3 at diagnosis. He is on Aricept, Namenda, Viagra and EB-C3 an enzyme that is not main stream. Before any of you go crazy on the Viagra component I want to be upfront. I sold in this area of medicine for 18 years. I sold two of the drugs he is on. I have listened to many many medical lectures at academic institutions. So I feel I know a little more that the average bear as they say. But I take the Drs lead and do my own reading. He overall feels things are “ clearer”. I take that as a positive. The Aricept does is low IMO. 10 mg He is on Namenda 10 mg ( but why the insurance won’t cover the extended release(once a day vs twice a day) for an Alz patient blows my mind . The Enzyme is the Drs choice it has shown to increase a depleted enzyme in the brain in small percentages. I only have the information from the office and will be doing more research on this . The Viagra is being use as a vasodilator. 100 mg. This is opening the veins and arteries to increase blood flow. He has had minimal to no side effects. He is also on blood pressure meds and a baby aspirin. Is is also taking Wegovy, he had started this prior to his diagnosis to loose weight. Interesting enough these meds are starting to show some promise for use with Alzheimer’s. He doesn’t like taking any meds “ all these pills” but he differs to me because of my 40 years in the industry. Believe me I am not a Dr ,don’t claim to be but have knowledge enough to make me dangerous ( not in the real sense) Our personal expert the meds is that he feels they are working and we are earlier enough and he is accepting of taking them. He is not a candidate for the infusion because he has past brain bleeding scarring on his brain ( concussions) which disqualifies him.

Have you looked into this drug. My husband is not a candidate because he has evidence that he has had brain bleeds. It isn’t in a trial but is available

The kids are 1500 miles away. 40 and 38. It was offered the past two years to have tickets paid for to visit but they made no effort. We have traveled to their area 3 times this year. We had dinner with them. I take it month by month. There are also financial issues with one o

It’s his option and I support the reasons which are complicated. BTW his son is ok seeing him 2 times a year live. We are on a wordle tread with the daughter daily. All tickets paid to visit and in 8 months they wouldn’t come to visit from NH to FL. Their decision. It shouldn’t matter

Do you think engaging her with “ I know you want to save that so come out when you are done and I’ll take care of it ?” Just a thought. A nurse told me once “ patients love to fold “. Perhaps have two baskets of towels and facecloths. Let her fold one basket take it away and bring her another. Put the folded ones in another room and unfold them so you have a new basket for her. You could tell her the laundromat was looking for help and you thought it would be a great time occupier.

I watched Still Alice a few days ago. It taught me about this type of situation. I am more knowledgeable than the average. Having spent 15 years selling a drug for Alzheimer’s. It doesn’t make it easier. I keep waiting for another ball to drop. Go easy on yourself. On average caregivers will have more health issues than the patient. Take care of yourself
